Hello everyone!!!

TL:DR - DK DW vs. Destro Staff - what are some good builds for both? Why is Destro so good on a DK? I am a new DK and want to understand better...I really don't want a fire mage class...but I cant deny the power of it.

So I really feel that in theory that the Dragonknight represents me a lot (I play Kendo in Jodan-No-Kamae which is represented by Fire). I was also born in the year of the Dragon (1988) also I like being a heavy in your face type of player.

I really prefer PVE trials and maybe some LIGHT pvp in the mix as I find PVE I can manage due to the RL time constraints.

Now that you have some backstory I would like to ask you...why destroy staff on the DK? There is great synergy with the class skills I agree fully but what builds are there for DW? I really would prefer DW over all but the raw power of destro staff is so strong.

Right now as a DW DK I am using:

- Razor Armor
- Molten Weapons
- Unstable Flame
- Rending Slashes (increased damage)
- Flurry

I find it odd....not every creature is able to be effected by bleeding...so is rending slashes useless?

The passives from Ardent Flame synergize extremely well with some destruction staff skills, allowing for some pretty hefty fire damage. Also currently the AoE fire skills that the DK can pump out recharge ultimate at a ridiculous rate, very nearly allowing the DK to spam their ultimate ability in combat.

This is changing with 1.6 as the way ultimate is generated is going through a rework.

Currently Stamina builds are becoming more and more viable. I personally have not heard much about a DPS stamina DK, but if you can hit the numbers, all the power to ya!

Primarily DKs are looked at as either tanks, or casters currently. I am in now way trying to convince you that your build is wrong, by all means make it happen! I am just saying that when people form groups for near end game VR12+ content, they generally look for the ideal class/spec setups, and in the case of DKs, that is either a tank, or a caster DPS.

I just wanted to add that I don't really see the fire mage DK spec as a true caster.

Generally casters are seen as the stand back and cast, kiting, robe wearing weenies that they are. As a fire mage you have to get up close and personal with the mobs, this works because of the magic resistance you get from light armor and the amazing defensive passives from Draconic Power.

Now don't go and think you can effectively tank, but you can at least be in melee range without the fear of being insta-gibbed.

Honestly if someone very recently had not suggested this build to me, I likely would not be playing ESO, it is that much fun.

I played a DW/Bow stamina build DK all the way from V1 to V14 but have not been happy with the build or race (Nord) I chose since V1 but was too lazy to re-roll. Right now, in my opinion, the best race for DK is Dark Elf because of their affinity for fire and most DK skills are fire based and I would go with a DK with a destruction staff that does fire damage.

If you have played a fire mage in other MMORPGames in the last 10 years.., you should pretty fastly realize that the DK is the "perfect fire mage you always wanted to have in a game"!

At the beginning I really was undecisive about which class was more OP: the fire mage in Warhammer (combustion mechanic) with ~100% crit and 250%+ surplus damage OR the DK-Mage in ESO

What disturbs me more about it is:
In both cases I did not choose to play that class at release :-(

Second most disturbing thing:
The Devs did not see this coming..

I have been DK stamina medium armor my whole eso carrier. Love it. And pls pls pls don't start playing that. Go around with that boring fire light armor thing you are doing. Let me have this awesome mobility build for myself

With the incoming 1.6 changes, you should really play your DK the way you like it. While it's true that a mage DK has always performed better than a "Knight" DK since the release of the game, I start to believe that magicka and stamina builds will compete equal in 1.6 or 1.7. At least I hope this is going to happen finally, for the sake of the game.

If you were enrolling a stamina DK, use your magicka pool for your defensive skills, not for your offensive skills. This will greatly help you in any situation.

Well, it's obvious you might not want to share your build, though I'm curious!

But what mobility are we talking about? Is it the DK leap? Are you using that defensively to get distance for bow or defense / restealths?

I'm levelling up a medium armor dw/bow dk, i call her my Dragon Rogue ^^.

Extremely fun build it is.
