Use above add-on or others available for what you want. If you don't use add-ons, you're SOL. ZOS seems unlikely to change the UI. They only make changes that can be implemented through an add-on. Pretty twisted system, neh?

LOL. I started wth a character who has become my Master Crafter and levelled an alt past him. I'll probably level a second Alt past him too because he's become vaguely frustrating to play.I ended up with one master-crafter and 6 Hireling-alts and one main-PVE-PVP.
Had no intention of making them all crafter-alts but after saving their names and lebveling their hirelings they just seemed to get that way after using them to craft-swap with my main. They also each store a specific category(s) of mats.
You could keep a costume handy so you wouldn't appear to be "shucking to my undies" .Now why we can't Upgrade items we are Wearing without taking them off, that I would like to be able to do instead of shucking to my undies whenever I need to up my active gear.

- They are all argonians
- They are still wearing their outfit as a prisoner and their chains
- They are named according to argonian lore. (Hoards-the-reagents, for example)
So I have a master and his slaves. He dubbed them in a way he could remember their name and use. For they all look like the same to him. Filthy scaly creatures. They should be honoured to serve him.
What do you think ?
