Who created the Elder Scrolls?

As an IP, where did the idea come from? What is it based on? When Bethesda decided to make the first Elder Scrolls game and the universe, who were the principle creators?

There is something immensely captivating about Nirn and the universe in which the Elder Scrolls takes place. I'd like to study more about it.

I'd love to read more about it if anyone knows.

Bethesda was/is the creator of The Elder Scrolls. They made sports games prior to the Elder Scrolls Series. The first TES release was Arena and shortly after that came Daggerfall. Arena wasn't initially intended to be a game with RP elements however it evolved into one. I was very lucky to grow up in a household that loved these games and I've played for nearly 20 years.

You can actually play Arena and Daggerfall for free:

There's also a ton of information online and almost every lorebook available:

    Unofficial Elder Scrolls Pages:

Here are a couple of documentaries about the latest additions to the TES series minus Online since it's an offshoot similar to TESA Redguard.

For all your TES needs go to www.uesp.net

Over there you'll find more information on Ted Peterson, Julian Lefay and Michael Kirkbride who I believe had a much bigger impact on what TES eventually became, especially the latter, as the Elk is responsible for the more spiritual, out of this world lore that makes TES so special, alien but still believable.

When you've read up on all of the lore and achieved CHIM, feel free to pay the BethSoft Lore Forums a visit. You'll know when you're ready to enter.

Lots of good info to check into. Thanks @Lionxoft and @Nazon_Katts for the videos and links! I've bookmarked this thread and I will be back.

Actually, I'm really interested in story and I've studied LoTR and Star Wars for their structure. I believe ES is entirely worthy as a world and universe to represent gaming alongside literature and film. It needs more looking into ;)

@Gyudan - Thanks for the great vid! It was fun to watch. How awesome would it be to have Prof Weaver's class?

What an amazing guy! The fact that he deems his students as his legacy instead of the great games he has created is quite something. Seems so humble and down to earth. Thanks for the video.

    Yes, that was pretty cool.

And I noticed some of the game design books on his student's desk in the classroom scene, which I ordered on Amazon. If I can't have him as a prof, I can at least check out the books he uses in his class.
