ZOS Please Read (thread about gear)

I was talking with some guildies last night and we got on the topic of set items. Long story short (it was a loooong conversation) we came to the conclusion that with how the undaunted special sets are, and how some set items can be made or found on ANY slot; that you should do the same with all gear (if not all at least more of them).

It would give us way more character customization and open the door for more build diversity. Yes I know, min/maxers would still use their "i win" combos and there is nothing wrong with that. People who dont want to do that and love to theory craft would be able to explore more avenues!

There are a lot of nice sets out there that are just begging to be used, but they get over looked because you cant mix them because pieces overlap, or because it only comes in a certain armor style (heavy, light, medium). Have you ever thought about opening up more variations with gear? I.e. allow more combos to be used.

I would also like to formerly suggest letting the adroitness lightning staff scale past level 43.....I really want to use the staff to that set instead of boots. Knowing there is a staff to the set (i used it for the longest of time until you made the boots) but I cant use it effectively really bums my mage out :P

So do you have any plans to address any of this? I am curious! I would really like to see everyone else's take on this too. Agree? Disagree? Better suggestion?

p.s.

Have a nice day :D

I like it. I'm not to far into the game (lvl 19) but, I feel like that would make the "Play How You Like" haters, give a little.

There's a much better way of doing this that I suggested months ago (in addition to being able to change traits on dropped gear).

Lets say an NPC drops a certain heavy armor piece, and it's a good set, with a good bonus, but you would rather it be in a different style or light or medium. Simply right-click on the piece of armor and select an option to turn it into a one-time use schematic from which you can use your own materials to re-craft that piece to your liking.

Ohhh, so it ends up being kind of like a glyph and once it's used it's destroyed?? that could be neat

I think champion system will open a new wortld for us. All vr gear become equal for 50 lvl. All gear, that you don't wear now because it have too weak stats will become viable.

And I think too many people are putting WAY too much on the shoulders of the champion system. I look forward too it but every single post on the forums "Hey, X would really help and *be cool/nice/needed/great/useful/better*" the inevitable answer is "Champion system is coming and will fix that."

No it won't. Champion system itself isn't going to affect gear sets, sure the level will change but Dreugh set is still going to be heavy armor Warlock is still going to be cloth armor.

If they do change all existing dropped sets to act like the new 1.5 sets, where they all come in every armor type with random traits that could be interesting to see what players do with it. Undoubtedly, come up with an extremely OP combination. But if it happens it won't have anything to do with Champ system.
    V14 - IMPERIAL NIGHTBLADE - DPS/TANK
    V13 - BRETON SORCERER - HEALS/DPS
    V2 - REDGUARD DRAGONKNIGHT - MELEE DPS
    V1 - BRETON TEMPLAR - TANK/DPS

to be continued... Nevermind, no longer "to be continued"

....and that right there is the main reason that jewelry crafting hasn't been implemented. Every set in the entire game would have to be re-balanced. We could come up with some insanely OP combinations if we could craft jewelry for player crafted armor sets, in addition to the jewelry that is already available for dropped sets.

Yep, you're right. CS won't affect sets in that way. But let me clarify a little what I mean. All I want to say, that if all armor will be equal in level, there will be more option for combination.

You don't wear vr5-7 gear, right? Why? Because it's weak. Because x-piece bonus isn't enough to cover difference between this set and vr12-14 set. But there are a lot of interesting sets, and even more eneteresting combinations.

The main change (at least for me) is exactly this level change. It will make all low-level vr gear viable.

See the issue is that no one knows when the final phase of the champion system will be added. They said that both CS and VR will co-exist for a while. Well if "a while" is anything to go by off of ZoS track record, it could be 6 months. You are currently stuck with the same pieces of gear for everyone and if you venture out pasty it you are at a serious disadvantage. That disadvantage is what I am hoping will be addressed.

there really isnt @Hybris6‌. The game forces you to use 1 of 5 sets. Thats it. You try anything else and its GG.

There are almost 150 unique armor/weapon/jewelry sets in this game, and I make use of many of them. The players who only use 1 to 5 have cookie cutter builds and don't know how to synergize sets and skills.

I agree..For example as a vamp sorcerer I would love to use the akiviri dragon set but it seems tailored to heavy armor users so none for me!

If you have a high level crafter, one who could recraft stuff, you would be able to make your own sets.

I have 8 chars from VR10 to level 14 and I craft all my stuff. Some of the dropped stuff is nice, but none much better, so being able to craft whatever you need is way past relying on found items.

Honestly I think armor sets need to be looked at heavily in terms of both performance and aesthetics. The addition of the undaunted boss sets it had me wishing there was more to make these dropped sets stand out more. I chased PvP sets for the longest time as they had some in the akaviri style which I loved but in order to get the performance I wanted out of my character had to move on to something else.

I would love it if you could research dropped sets to then be able to learn them, with all the same limitations of trait researching, so the more sets you research the longer it is going to take (within reason) then give us a new crafting station that allows for the crafting of this armor in any style using a piece of the armor as the trait material.

I would also like some of the other styles, akaviri/ebony made available to crafters through research and breaking down. I'm cool with it not being an instantly achievable thing but something that was chartable (i.e. after breaking down an item x times you can then craft in that style but it will require something for the style material) There are some really cool armor combos out there but we are so limited it makes much of this game just about finding one combo and sticking to that period. Yes there are some lesser known combos out there, but they're not statistically the best for most of the player base.

So, the long and short of it is I would love some more armor options. Good idea OP
