When will we be able to change our character names?

It was stated pre-launch that we would be able to change the names of our characters some time post launch, but can we get an estimate on when this feature is going to be implemented @Gina_Bruno ?

As I understand it, if the reason is deemed valid, CS can perform this function for you.

Why not just name your character what you want when you create it? Instead of things like Rastus McDerp, Crafty Pothead, and Rufus McStank The Third (and those are just 3 of the more idiotic names I saw last night).

Not good enough. This should be something completely under player control and, "I want to change my character's name" should totally be a "good enough" reason.

Because I stupidly named one of my characters Occam Craftalt initially thinking she would be parked at a crafting hub. Well, her she is at VR5 kicking butt and taking loot in Dungeons, Delves and Dolmens.

My other characters have names I like, but one is bugging me.

Personally I think all MMOs should have facilities available like name, class, race, gender, and similar changes available to players, for a real-money fee.

I have tried to change a number of times through customer support and they won't let me change. I made a number of craft mules and named them according to what they did. Now that I am playing "Loot Donkey" I would like to change it.

Well I just want to add surnames to them, should have added surnames when I made them, but didn't.

I chose names I like though, so I'm still happy with them.

Why give something for free when you can charge for it later? Unless your name has a special character that makes inviting impossible or is insulting, you cannot change it.

Source: I tried to get one of my Alts name changed.

That's why I chose names I like.

Relkin for my Dragonknight and Thrembode for my Sorceror (from Basil Broketail books). Mwelret for my Argonian (Shannara books), Mwwwr for my Khajiit (I thought it sounded like a quirky name a cat might come up with (yeah I know, Khajiit aren't cats, but what the heck)). And I named my Orc Nightblade Gruumsh Gro Bak to prove that you could name a character with spaces in their name (it was in response to a stupid thread, turns out the guy was trying to use a name the game found offensive, and thought putting spaces in it would fool the game :rolleyes:)

Good point, also for roleplayers. What if your character gets married and you want to add/change their last name?

Hopefully such a thing will be implemented around the same time as a way to change hairstyles etc

The marriage tax in Davon's Watch is out of sight. You're still better off keeping separate names

I've got one or two alts (aptly named for a fantasy game, though I don't RP) that seemed fine when creating, but then a day or two later really doesn't sit well with me. Such as my Nord's last name is Frostsoul, which sounded good at the moment, but an hour to a day later I wish I had gone with Frostheart or something else.

Also, another alt of mine I was torn between two names. Went with one, and turned out to be one letter off from the real name of one of of the guild officers/fill-in GM. Considering that officer is a woman, I just feel rather self conscious that could come across rather stalkerish. She thinks it's hilarious, really likes it actually, but you never know how other people will take it and how some just love to stir up drama.

Short point is: There are sometimes accidental instances of naming a character that certainly qualify for a legitimate name change. I hope it is something they implement at some point.

I don't think we need to justify it, they are our characters, we should be able to name them what we want, and be able to change those names. It's not like we are asking to change our account names.

It would be nice if someone from ZOS would just come out and explain why there is a resistance to allowing any and all changes to not only names but also physical appearance.
It's not like these abilities would take an entire staff of programmers and months of development time.
So why the resistance? It would be a change that would take minimal effort on their part and give a whole lot of players, or should I say people that are supporting them financially, a better experience.

Oh, I assure you I am with you on that one. I'm all for changing it "just because". But for some reason so many people are against the idea.

It think it was a Jessica post a little bit ago where she stated appearance changes are something they want to do, but just figuring out how they want to go about it. But as Mr. Sage loves to remind us all that time, "Everything is subject to change." But I am all for appearances changes as well and would like to see them sooner than later.

Pretty sure absolutely hating your toons name is good enough to warrant a change. One of my guild mates did it.

They are making it all TOO HARD. Just add it as a menu item on the Character Screen. It does not have to be some nifty special place or quest or etc.
Just add it to the start menu.
Why spend valuable programming resources that could be spending their time fixing real issues?

honestly i hope the answer is "never". i've seen more stalking behaviors in games with name changes than those without over the years and i think it should always be controlled by CS regardless.

While some players would legitimately change their name and not abuse it, the vast majority would use it to troll or change their name every day to whatever the latest meme is.

So what if people change their name every day? Also are you saying that the VAST majority of users that change their name are using it to troll?
The character name is still tied to an account name that can not be changed.

Sounds great to me. I'm all for adding more variety to the game with the least amount of hassle.

As for people insisting people changing their character name (and even appearance) to troll others... @Name does not change. Once you ignore them, they can change their character name all they want and will still not be able to annoy you. And if you know a person to be a troll, and you haven't added them to ignore, that's on you.

So really... why do people keep trying to push that false argument?
