M'aiq the Liar - Betnikh

So, we're at hour number five for camping M'aiq the Liar where he allegedly is supposed to spawn in Betnikh. He's still not here.

I'm in between Eyearata and Moriseli, on the pin my addon, and every post I can find says he's supposed to be - and he's still not here.

I've noticed a chest and some wolves despawning when I approach, because I've cleared the zone. Am I out of phase? Will he no longer spawn because I'm out of phase? Can I no longer get this achievement because I've completed this zone?

This is the last time I need to find him, and it's depressing.

So, tl;dr - is there another spawn for him on this island that I don't know of?

Please advise. I'm starting to dislike M'aiq.

You really can't camp Mai'q, or Crime Pays or any of the other Achievement NPC's. Their spawns are actually triggered by your arrival at their location at the correct times of day if they weren't already spawned. You have to just leave and keep returning til you trigger his spawn or find him pre-spawned by someone else.

I hate M'aiq the Missing!
but the pin is in the right location,
I had this issue in Stormhaven where I visited the known locations several times a day over about a week before finding him...

@SteveCampsOut Not to be demanding, but do you mean leave the zone, or the location?

Since Behtnik is so small, yes leave the zone. I have no numbers on what the range is for these NPC's to spawn and I've seen Mai'q from quite some distances at times, but I do know the Crime Pays, Light Bringer and Give to the Poor have fairly small spawn ranges as they don't spawn til you're within a few yards of them normally.

I also don't mean leave the zone and just re-enter it, Mai'q's Spawns are also on certain times of day from what I've seen so you really just need to go do something else for a bit for the most part. When I farmed Mai'q and the other Achievement NPC's I just went from zone to zone looking for them and back again til I found them all. Took me about two weeks to complete all 4 achievements.

It's a good thing to do while getting your fishing achievements.

Or if you are doing quests in a zone, every time you wayshrine somewhere, pop over to Bethnik and see if he's there.

Day two - still no sign of him

Have been zoning out each time I look to make sure.

Well, I can confirm the phasing thing doesn't affect it.

Day three, and I've found that damned elusive cat.

I do not, however, retract my hopes for him contracting feline aids.

The colour is nice though - well worth the time.

Yes, it can be a PITA to find the elusive kitty. Though I have a fair bit of luck when it comes to it, and when I do find him, I always post in Chat to see if there is any one else looking for him before I leave since he always despawns once I am about 100yards away from him and want to give other players having a hard time the chance to get him.

I do think the time of day does have something to do with it as well, because I have run across him several times when traveling by foot from one location to another and just by accident. This is why I think ESO needs it's own in game clock that shows the GAME TIME and not the actual time like it currently does.

But he is only up for 15mins per hour and if someone else talks to him, he will depop.
There is still an issue in bal foyen, where you have to stand exactly where he should spawn before you can see him, but the rest should be view able from a distant

I do the same thing with the other NPC achievements as well. It's nice when players help each other out with shout outs like this.

I accidentally found a begger in Al'ikir desert when I was doing the quests there - didn't realise it was a spawn thing as well.

Does robbing the merchants earn you gold though?

I will likely do the same. Ran into him by accident in Stormhaven yesterda and was super excited!

When you intimidate a merchant they put a sack down, this has to be looted for the achievement to tick off, I believe this contains item(s), possibly gold as well, but can't confirm this as I run with auto-loot turned on.

I think it only has an item, but you do get blue stuff sometimes.

They just drop a backpack on the ground with a small amount of gold and one green item that I just deconned. You won't get rich robbing them but you might end up with a guilty conscience if you have one. They're strong in the ways of guilt! LOL! Especially if you talk to them again when you see them popped again later...

Some may be bugged for instance the only way you can see Miaq in Bal Foyen is if you go to the rocks at the clif and turn around.. other wise if you stand in the spot it makes sense too.. the npcs are invisible...Not sure if everything experiences this but this bug kept my wife from not being able to find him for months even tho he was always there.

Particularly if you come across the same merchant later and they are just sitting by their horse pouting...

At least the beggar and the guys with the fire are happy, so that makes two good for one bad.

Bal Foyen quest spoiler:

It may have something to do with your choice of saving the fort or the docks. There is also a chest in that area that disappears when you approached it if you saved the docks, but not if you saved the fort.

Cheers man! As a side note, if you use wykkyds toolbars or framework or one of them - there's an option to see what you loot, and what everyone else loots - allows me to still loot stuff in speed runs without slowing anything down

He has two spawn points in Bal Foyan. When He spawns up at the top of the cliff in Bal Foyan at the Plantation Point Overlook with the furniture he can be seen from a distance. I saw him from a distance as I was killing the Netches up there. I can't speak for his other location behind the fort between the fort and the gate to stone falls as I've never seen him spawn there. If you saw him spawned on the ground below the cliffs of Plantation Overlook then it was indeed a bugged instance since he's supposed to spawn at the top of the cliffs.
