Worth crafting while leveling?

I love crafted sets, I really do, but I'm so lazy I played one of my characters with 0 armor rating from level 38 to upper 40s because I couldn't be bothered to gather mats or spend money on repairs (and I admit, I was curious how I'd do practically naked). I survived just fine. It's fun to take up challenges undergeared and/or underleveled once in a while.
