informal complaint

just posting since i'm very upset and disappointed at the game especially with the latest patch... don't know who's idea or why they decided that things should scale but it seems like a very counter intuitive thing for games... you are supposed to -LEVEL UP- to beat monsters and areas right? not have them level with you? what's the point of even leveling or going past the first area if you can't even beat things easily like you do in normal games? dungeon bosses from what i've seen are already broken enough with them having a lot of stupid instant death skills or attacks and that you have to have a certain specific practiced routine you have to do to beat a lot of these, and it only gets worse for veteran content? what happened to the game being a fun casual thing that Zenimax advertised as being "Different" from other MMOs? I don't want to spend hours trying to get through something that make me angry and frustrated and want to quit playing the game entirely? there's just such a huge loss of balance in some areas and so much stuff forced that it's starting to really ruin the game that I enjoyed during beta and the start of the game...

for some more specifics... I posted in the crafting section about the writ's, they are fun to do but the survey's get ridiculous and stupid after you get rank 7 in a crafting skill, at 5 and 6 you are turning in supplies to Cold Harbor, but as soon as you put in a rank to 7 it forces you to Craglorn? a single rank puts you from fighting monsters close to 50 and then suddenly drops you into an area that has most monsters at v12-14? I can't even do much to a wasp as a V1 which is disappointing in itself but also that i'm forced to die to reach my "reward" specifically with Clothier Map 3 in Craglorn, I have to die or find a group that can kill what's in the way or i'm out of luck...

the other complaint too is about the difficulty... we are shown and taught we can play the game in a certain way and can even have solo content available to play with... but then suddenly at Craglorn that is all suddenly tossed out and group play is forced onto us ? what if I don't like playing with other people or want to enjoy something on my own? why is it that a group of monsters that would be "normally" out of aggro range of each other suddenly join up into a huge group to chase you down when you try to kill a single monster to make the group smaller and more manageable? that really annoys me and makes me angry that if i'm at the same level as the monsters I can't kill them or even solo anything for some unknown reason?

another thing too is the forced progression, you don't get goodies dropped by monsters if you outlevel them or xp, is there really a reason for this when there isn't much that they would drop? why can't I go beat up lower level monsters for hours on end if I wanted to and get small amounts of goodies? I can't say it's as bad as the other things i've seen but it's still annoying... especially when i'm leveled ahead from doing the normal questline and should be doing areas beyond Coldharbor but I still have to finish Bangkorai, also with doing the PVP which can level most well beyond what they should be if they play with it a lot...

i'm not sure if the recent update caused or brought most of this but have been upset and unhappy with the game a lot more now, and I haven't even touched the PVP since I got frustrated enough as it was with the non-vet campaign and now all the campaigns are going to have up to V14s to fight against... and finding a lot of what ESO and Zenimax advertised about trying to be different is turning out to be more of the same with later game content forcing group/raid play that is so common in other MMOs, I don't really want to spend hours trying to get through a single dungeon or a boss especially when that ends up taking away from enjoyment of the game... i'm hoping that more will be done sooner instead of later though...

small semi-random addition as well towards the story behind a number of quests and the overall theme of the game... there seems to be a borderline death fetish involved with the game it almost seems like... I don't mean about killing so many of this or so many of that or some person or another... but there's a number of "achievements" that glorify you dying in a certain way or from doing some certain thing, also add in that the main story involves you being dead/killed in itself, and then during play you are left with a large number of quests involving a lot of forced 'choices' about who lives and who dies... I don't mean the obvious story involved with the Cyrodil war and semi-related obvious things, but there's a lot of those "grey area" quests, and there's actually so many i've seen that I it started detracting from the enjoyment of the game, the storyline with Alki'r is the worse in itself... I think I got tired of the quests with irreversible changes with what you pick after Rivenspire, with it seeming that nearly every other quest had the red text choices come up... I think it wasn't too bad up to Alki'r, but after seeing the story and how it really did seem like the people really did want to die I was hard pressed to force myself to finish the area and there's a few side quests I didn't finish yet... so many of them seem to have depressing or bad outcomes it seems like and those just stack up from the earlier areas that had some similar quests... I guess maybe it's not meant to be read into so much but there's a good number of quests with depressing storylines about spirits of people who were murdered or killed over something, then some telling you to choose between who to kill or how many people get killed... I almost threw up my hands saying "I quit" after finding yet another quest in Bangkorai where you have to pick between helping a spirit that steals memories to help itself and the land, or to go with the other group that's telling you that it's wrong for the spirit to be doing what it's doing, but only because it's against what they stand for and want to do.... not to mention having daughters and other people kill themselves since there's some awful group turning people into zombies of some sort and they were infected and there's no way to cure them for some reason... but at times it just seems like there's a little too much focus on death and dying, and it doesn't help with seeing how things are in other parts of the world IRL with the eastern countries and all the fighting happening there... was going to point out more but I think I wore myself out with remembering all the quests I rather forget existed...

    Informal Response

I can see you put a lot of thought and words into this novella (sorry feeling a little sarcastic this morning). Having played since early access there are a lot of things i like and dislike about the changes over the past few months.

As far as the scaling to player level i would suggest waiting until the CS comes out i don't think we have seen the final version yet. I do agree with the excessive damage some bosses are capable of, but that is also part of the challenge. Besides, being able to faceroll everything would be boring.

Not every story has a happy ending sometimes the hero dies and the bad guys win even in RL. Choices have consequences and i actually like that about this game because it allows for a lot of different play styles. It is just a game and if you don't like your choices just re-roll and pick a different one.

Wow lots of text...I'll try to write something compare-able response:D

1)I think scaling of solo instances should be toggle-able option. Some people love it - it's great if you happen to greatly outlevel an instance and wanna do it at a later level, like a friend of mine kind of ignored Mage guild storyline til she was like vet 10, and then she just didn't want to go kill level 10 mobs. But now she actually finished it because she could do it at her level with mildly challenging mobs dropping loot and all. However, if people find an instance too hard and want to outlevel i to make it easier, there's no reason why they shouldn't be able to do so. ESO needs more on-off toggles to keep people happy.

2)You do NOT have to fight monsters in Crag to complete crafting writs. I've done about 10 surveys by now and since I'm lazy, I try to avoid fighting there and it's been possible every single time without even sneaking. There're NO nodes that'd put you in mobs' aggro range unless you're super not careful or something. Just be careful;) Hey, there's gotta be some risk involved or it's completely boring.

3)The game really isn't all that hard unless we're talking vet dungeons and maybe some of Upper Crag. Trash packs of mobs in Crag can be solo'd just fine. Be careful so they don't get first hit on you(if you SUDDENLY get attacked by 10+ mobs, yeah, you probably won't recover. Be vigilant, hero!), remember to block, dodge and get some nice aoe on your bar. And stay away from elite trash like that big lizard thingie, whatever it's called, it can be annoying. But just welwa/wasps packs aren't that big of a problem for a vet 10+ player. My friends solo them easily at vet 6, I'm sure some people do that at vet 1, too. Considering there you're supposed to be around vet 10 by the time you finish solo questing, it shouldn't be that big of a problem. You CAN kill trash packs in Crag when you're at their level if you're just a little bit careful.

Some of Lower Crag and most Upper Crag delves are definitely not soloable, but hey...there're 15(+Coldharbour+staring zones) solo zones. Give people that want to group some fun, too. I get it that you might prefer to play solo, but there are a lot of people who prefer to group. And try to group yourself, who knows, maybe you'll like it?

    4) The trivial mobs thingie...I suppose it exists there so you don't go farm gold off thing you can kill with half a breath. I do think 5 levels is a bit too short though, I frequently ended outleveling mobs by 6-7 just by doing all the quests.

5+)Far as choices go... o_O That's about my favourite part of the game to be honest. I LOVE it that my choices actually mean something, I feel part of the story when I know my choices are irreversible and will actually affect the world I play in. I think it's awesome my word matters and can actually decide something rather than follow one and only script for everyone. I for one think we need more choices with "red" options. Also, a lot of red options are actually not red, like they all actually lead to same result no matter what you do.

Far as "death fetish" goes...well, you know, the world is coming to an end(*cough*Planemeld*cough*), it's continuously torn apart by 3 factions fighting each other nonstop, and we're talking TES here - robbers on every rode, necromancers in every cave...what did you expect?:P I didn't actually find it all that sad and gloomy, there're plenty of positive moments.

Far as death-related achievements go...the game IS focused on combat. Yes, you can pick up flowers(and there's an achievement for that, and not just one!) and fish(again achievements!) and go treasure hunting(see above), but the majority of the players spend most of their time fighting(or getting ready to fight), so obviously most achievements are related to that part. There's still a ton of crafting, fishing and exploration achievements though, plus quests' ones.

Not exactly true, there is an enchanter location where you must kill wasps to harvest some runes. They aren´t too hard but can take little effort at lower levels or even at vr14.

Hmm, that does sound like an oversight. I don't think they should be forcing lower level player to fight them, seeing the surveys' location is based on crafting skill rather than char level.
