/LFG Chat Channel

This is a really quick suggestion...

I would love a /LFG chat channel similar to /zone, /group, /say, /yell, etc. that can be used by those looking for others to group with and can be ignored by those who aren't interested in grouping.

ZOS would just break the rest of the chat system adding it & most players wouldn't look for it anyway.
Shame as LFG & Trade would be nice but...

I'd like it, but I think any kind of global channel would be abused too much for it to be worthwhile.

I would think it could be restricted to a specific zone instead of global.

This is a good idea, if implemented properly.

Why would you want that? Finding groups over chat is a terrible experience. It's like peeling an orange with fur gloves on.

In my opinion any use of the chat for something other than actual talking is a sign that the UI or the game mechanics are broken or missing key functionalities.

In that case, I don't really see the point. Zone chat never seems to get overcrowded to the point that I miss LFG/LFM chats.

I see where you're coming from, but disagree in a way. There's nothing wrong with people communicating via Chat to form groups, and personally I've not had much trouble doing so. LFG tool should definitely be the primary way to form groups, but doing it over Chat is a more interactive experience.

Yep... the grouping tools are broken... So I think we should have this /LFG chat channel to compensate. ;)

You know what would be cool? A kind of hybrid /LFG channel and LFG tool.

You could advertise your group in chat via /LFG and it would be "clickable" in the Chat by people who want to apply. The group leader could see a list of applicants, and their role, then let people in as need be.

I'm not suggesting this replace the traditional LFG tool that is already (sort of) in the game. But it would be a nice feature.

Or maybe, the LFG tool could just display current groups in the zone and you could apply to them there within the LFG tool window.

You guys picking up what I'm putting down?

What's wrong with zone chat? Anyone looking for people to do things in that area is in that channel already. Block the ability to link items from that chat so you don't get trader spam. Then make a trader channel.

I like the idea of being able to look at groups that are looking for more and maybe queuing up to join. And if they need someone they can pick you based on maybe a small note you made of what you are and stats if need be. Also the group or individual can make a note as to what the group is about (Craglorn main story group quests) for example.

The idea behind a matchmaking style of group finder to me is very flawed. Where having to actively look to join something on a list (like old D2 games) would promote more specific types of groups being formed.

They have been hard at work rewriting the LFG tool from the ground up for 1.5. I don't know what the issues are and why they released a bugged version, but I'm pretty sure they will release a fix in one of the upcoming incremental patches.

I think chat offers enough interactivity once you are inside the group. Using chat to find a group is like using ice skates when you're rollerblading, it's just not the best tool for the job. Only because you had a good experience doesn't mean the experience can't be better. Also "good" is a relative term, the experience you perceive as good may be perceived as terribly annoying by others.

If I were heading the LFG team, as long as there was still a single person asking for a group in chat, I would invest in improving on the tool.

LFG channel idea rocks. It must be alliance wide and I like the idea it may incorporate the LFG tool somehow. Anything that can improve on the crap that we currently have.

It's a good idea, but that would be admitting their grouping tool is so broken that they had to implement another option. Zeni will never do that.

If I recall, in GW2 when you type lfg __________ it automatically puts you in their tool with the message so you can find people either way.
And so did many brave men, women, and beast fall to the end of Beta, never to be heard from again. All that is left, is whispers of the adventures they had.

I really like the idea of having an alliance wide chat! I almost want that as a separate idea.

    /faction

This would speak to all your brothers and sisters in your alliance, no matter where they are.

    Cool.

I'm sure they are hard at work fixing the Grouping tool but I can't imaging implementing a /LFG channel that acts like a different colored /zone channel would be that terribly hard.

Now, if they want to make a /LFG channel only speaks to those that are a similar level to you (+/- 3 levels?) or has options for you send your messages out to specific classes... that would be another story.

I spent three nights in a row queueing as a tank, to no avail. I believe ZOS is incapable of fixing the LFG tool. Therefore I fully support the idea of an alliance-wide LFG chat because it's the only thing that would actually work in the current state of the game.
