finshing for ocean fish in cryrodiil

OK, last time I looked at a map Cyrodiil was land locked. No no, you say in the se side there is a spot for ocean fish. I tried 3 spots on the southeast side and caught lake fish not ocean fish. I got eaten several times by fish myself and could never hop across to the other side. I did manage to get around on the se side once and was instantly teleported back to the main gate wayshrine.
How are we supposed to catch ocean fish in Cyrodiil?

Did you try Bravil Leyawiin? That is near the ocean.

Edit Leyawiin may not even be in this game, have not spent much time in Cyrodill.

There are 5 ocean spots in Cyrodiil.

They are located at the AD gates.

One is right by the spot where AD players ford across the river.
The other one is slightly to the East on the north shore (there is another fishing spot east of that that is either River or Lake, I can't remember).

The other three are on the south shore of the River on the island that is Bravil. You may need a friend with good healz to get across the water, as the slaughterfish are especially nasty there (I was down to a sliver or health when I was able to hop across, even with a friend healing me...)

    It's Dangerous Fishing (TM).

Incidentally, that river has a number of good River spots all the way to its source (though that is a bandit camp, so it's also slightly dangerous fishing).

By the AD gate of mnem there are a few fishing holes in the river that contain ocean fish. It's a dangerous spot to fish, at least for DC.

No part of Cyrodiil featured in ESO is near any ocean. Bravil is on the Niben Bay, which is a lake.

Sorry, I was thinking of Leyawiin anyway and saw Bravil on a map and got confused. Is that even in Cyrodill in this game?

Have you fished in those waters? They are quite brackish...

Leyawiin is not in the game at this time. I hope it will be! Along with a Bravil one can actually enter.

Nope, I haven't fished in Cyrodiil at all yet. Now I'm going to wonder what caused this salinity... Where are Imperial hydrologists when I need them?!

OK I fished the 3 fishing nodes where ad players come out of their gate at the base of the trail. I used every bait: worms, guts, crawlers, minnows, chad, insect parts. After fishing out all three nodes, you know what I caught every time? You guessed it, "used bait!" That is right "used bait!" Fishing is broken in Cyrodiil! I have fished every node along the river at the base of the map and along the se side. On the SE side if I don't get lake fish I get.... wait for it..... "used bait!" It doesn't matter what bait I use! This game is so frustrating!

Yes, but the Niben River connects Niben Bay to Topal Bay, thus making it conceivable that saltwater fish might swim upstream somehow. And slaughterfish (which are supposed to be saltwater fish in this game) are certainly native to these waters, so it makes some kind of backward sense I guess.

Anyway, it's at least more plausible than saltwater fish in the Rift or Shadowfen.

You're in the right spot. Use only worms and chub for bait, be sure to 'reel in' any used bait, as throwing it back means it will be the next thing you catch in a never-ending cycle. Bring plenty of worms. Even with health buffed over 3000, I could not get past Slaughterfish. It took a while, but I got all twelve fish out of the two holes below the AD gate. Just keep your eyes peeled if you are not AD-they have no mercy even on a simple fisherman.
Edit: the two spots are on the north bank to the left of the crossing as you face south, looking up to the AD gate. One is very close to the crossing, the other is just downstream, near a very large tree on the bank.

This is a big help. I had been hitting esc when I caught the used bait, so I never actually pulled it in. Your description of the fishing holes is spot on. I know exactly the nodes you described. Thanks so much for your advice on this. Yeah, I am Ad so I am lucky on this spot, but I have to say when I see someone fishing or doing the caves for pve I don't attack them. Unfortunately, a few times in the caves since I didn't attack them and they attacked me first I died fast, but I believe in karma. It all works out. Happy fishing!
