Using Voice commands?

Has anyone tried using voice command software just to switch hot bars, use the quick bar, and to select spells in combat while using the mouse for movement?

I might git it a go if no one else has tried it and report back.

Your reply is funny, but the reason I posted this is that I was diagnosed with carpal tunnel syndrome in my left wrist, and I was looking for an option that would allow me to continue playing without make the condition worst.

I remember the reviews for the speech control pokemon game, the one you gave voice controls to Pikachu in. As I recall the Third line of that review was a string of profanities.

In short speech recognition can be really problematic, and that's if it's even compatable with ESO. I can sympathise with your condition, but I doubt many people have tried what you are asking about.

Well, i don't think this is a very good idea. since it takes a while to process the voice input and there can always be some misinterpretation by the software in which case you might not get any actions from it.

Have you tried a gaming keypad? these might be a lot better for your wrist.

Thanks for the link, but my left hand using the keyboard. I might buy one for my right hand depending on the reviews.

Have you tried a gamepad like Logitech G13? I'd recommend it anyway. It's quite ergonomic, especially the mini-joystick you can operate with your thumb.

Yes, that is the only one that has four row of keys that I need. I need to found one in a store and try before I buy. Also looks like it has a wrist pad integrated into it.

    Thanks for the info.

I wouldn't say it supports the wrist itself, but yes, it supports your hand in a natural curve. If you have a picture of it showing the key numbering: The way I use it, the G4, G10, G11 and G12 keys would be equivalent to the WASD keys on a keyboard. I still use them for movement, actually. The mini joystick I use to activate abilities.

I was thinking of using the top row for the number keys and the bottom three rows for the WASDX keys. I use X to move backward, the S key to crouch, The W key to jump; been doing it like this for over 25 years.

How is it holding up? I read the reviews that it doesn't last very long under heavy gaming use.

I suppose it depends on the size and shape of your hand, but when I try that while still accessing the thumb joystick and keys, my fingers end up curling little more than they are in a typical WASD keyboard layout. Doesn't quite feel right.

As for durability, I have put int some 500 hours at least and there's no sign of deterioration. There's nothing about it that looks or feels fragile in any way. If you'd ask me "what's most likely to break it" I'd say using the thumb joystick for navigation. Especially if you get carried away and start yanking it this way and that like some might do on their console controllers. I kind of doubt that's what it's for though. The way I see it it's just the best way to access more "buttons" with your thumb. After all, it's just a 4 way joystick.

Have you tried the free windows speech recognition? I've never tried it but it might just be what you need.

If your right hand is fine, would a gaming mouse work? I have all the actions you mentioned (plus roll dodge and interrupt) mapped to my mouse and use keyboard only for movement and looting/initiating dialogue.

I have a logitech gaming mouse, but the 12 buttons are too close together and I always press the wrong ones, so all I use on the mouse is the extra mouse button on the top.

I might get the G13, but I plan on test speech recognition. I need to test it with Mumble, and make sure that when I mute mumble, doesn't it mute the mic as well.

I have carpal tunnel in both wrists and Rheumatoid disease that makes my fingers pretty worthless. I use an Orbweaver gaming pad for my left hand. It has four rows of five programmable keys and the build in wrist support lets me set up my left hand so my carpal tunnel doesn't flair. It also has three programmable buttons for your thumb but i have disabled these and i use them to support my thumb/hand. I also use a Naga Razer mouse with six extra programmable buttons and it helps my right hand. And bummer though it is, when i am flaring i just can't play...

So you didn't go to the Home Page and look for the Left Handed version of the mouse?

Can't use a left handed mouse, but might buy it for the right hand because of the 3 button mouse plus the scroll wheel.

You can actually control it with your mind and it works much the same way as a voice activated system would work. The voice activation system doesn't know what you are saying it just macro's outputs to certain sound patterns. The same thing can be done with brain patterns. Where you can record your brain pattern while thinking "hotswap" and macro it to the hot swap key. Then all you have to do is think "hotswap" and it's done.

Emotiv is one of the systems that lets you do this. There is a video on youtube of a guy playing WOW using only the Emotiv. Singularity here we come.

Sorry, I thought it was a right hand vs left hand thing and I linked the wrong mouse.

Anyway, the HR person at my company has one of these. I had to use her PC other other day to enter my payroll hours as mine decided to die. It was weird at first using this mouse, but after about 5 minutes it was getting easier. But holding your hand at the side like they show has a huge impact on how my arm feels. I have some carpal tunnel type issues that also affects the elbow and shoulder and I may have to get one of these as I could immediately feel the difference.

It also helps to get the mouse and keyboard lower down, but the wrist is still at weird angle with a regular mouse no matter that you do with it. Wrist pads on the mouse pad can really help with this though.

I decided on the Razer Orbweaver Stealth because it is completely adjustable and uses cherry brown keys; the only con is the price. Check it out using the link below:

Note that you can only buy it through the manufacturer's web site.
Thanks for the help, I didn't think about using a game pad.
