What's the use of gold in end game?

Lizenya
Lizenya
Since I got my bank to max slots i see my gold just piling up down there in the corner of my screen. I really wonder what's the point to even have gold in the game when you can't spend it on anything you want...

For the builds that I want to use every single set is bound on pickup:
Master weapons -> bound on pickup
V14 Aether sets -> bound on pickup
even normal Aether sets -> bound on pickup
Wormcult set -> bound on pickup
new boss heads -> bound on pickup
shoulders form boss sets, almost impossible to get when looking for a specific one -> bound on pickup
the new improved trial sets -> bound on pickup (guess here, didn't get one yet)

Why?

This system leads to
- finishing hard content feeling unrewarding, because you can't sell what you don't need yourself
- gold being almost completely useless after you've reached a certain point in the game
- people who prefer trading or crafting can't get many of the items
- guild stores are stuffed with the same items over and over, reducing their prices into oblivion and making gold even more useless

My suggestion would be to make all those sets bound on equip, which makes sense to remove items from the game, after they were used once.

For bind on pickup the only reason I can see is to make it more time consuming to get the sets together, but this is mostly causing frustration along the way with the things you get and don't need. I would greatly prefer reduced drop rates for all those sets over this bind on pickup system. Atleast then I could offer to buy boss shoulders for 1m or 2...

If there are any advantages of the current system that I just don't see, please enlighten me.
Also suggentions on what to use gold on are very welcome ;)

I recommend changing the title so people can see you are referring to the items being bound on pickup and the consequences of that.

Well it's not necessarily only this problem... It is just what first came to my mind where I would like to spend my gold.

But there could also be a different system implemented that eats away gold, just the fact that I can't use it for anything at all is what annoys me

I have not reached the point where i have more gold then i know what to do with yet. The strange thing is i talked to someone that undercut me in my guildstore by a hundred gold and he told me he had 5 million gold.
So he really wanted the sales for some reason.
Other people have wispered me in the past and told me not to undercut them.
They needed the sales so they could buy 400 tri stat potions a day.
The thing that interests me more is when enough is enough, maybe you can share your idea's on this.

I guess dealing with a daily repair bill of 3 k and spending 4 k on mats for crafting writs is not making you poor when you have the set you like to play with.

I was expecting some response like this :) but doing a gold giveaway can't be what's supposed to happen with gold in endgame

I wanted to buy a specific staff and someone would only sell it for 150k, it was not bound on pickup.
The price of a item is probably decided by the hours needed to find said item, a person that farmed 1000 dolmens to have an item finally drop would value it a lot higher than a random person that finds it on their first dolmen and does not even want it or know what it is.
So i find gold has a value, it represents the amount of real time life spend playing the game to get something.

Other people have wispered me in the past and told me not to undercut them.

If they do that send them a link to SupplyandDemand.com and Freemarket.com
    and Capitalism.com and pricefixing.com

Not sure if any of those sites exist, but this is an economy, you want to make sales, you price things to sell at what you think people will pay. You want to buy you find the lowest price to buy it at. You are not in the business of fixing pricing. There is already enough friction in the pricing of things in this game.

Now, if this is a PvP Guild Store, that is one thing, maybe some cooperation is needed. If this is a trading guild, then it's a free market economy. If I want to sell something fast, I price it to sell. If I want to sell something for the most money I think I can get, I price it that way and wait.

This weekend I sold 31 Blue Motifs for 200 Gold in Zone Chat. One guy bought 13 of them at once and immediately went into the bank to sell them in a Guild Store. Was I upset? No, I priced them at what I did to move them and clear up space, he probably priced them at some higher price he thinks he can move them for in his store.

As someone mentioned above, time is a big consideration in how people price things. More time, more money, less time, less money.

Not if you make those yourself. I have quite a bit of gold. I'll use it for Dwemer chapters if I can't find those I miss (but only when prices drop a lot-that's how you keep gold). I assume there will be future upgrades where my gold will be handy. But other than that, I only use gold for repairs. Totally self-sufficient for other needs.

I've spent way more gold than I should trying to get some of the PvP sets, they're only sold at set levels so in order to get the set I want at my level I have to rely on random drop chance in my mail or pick up what I need in a guild store.

I can make those myself as well. But in order to make enough you need to farm a lot. For example, one Vet DSA run can take up to 200 potions. To craft that much I would need 150 flowers of 3 kinds (50 of each). Sure, you can go pick them up, but that will take time. And what if you want to do runs every night for some time? Say 3-4 runs in a row? How much time would you spend to find those flowers? A lot. Easier to buy them (or buy potions). That is why gold is pretty useful in this game.

Let me repeat, if someone thinks he doesn't need gold, please feel free to send me a private message so I can tell you where to send your gold in-game ;)

Do you just play 1 character?

I suspect there is a vast difference in expenditure between someone who just plays 1 character and someone like me who plays several. Just as examples, I have several character inventories to buy slots for, several horses to buy and feed.

If you have just 1 character, then you could easily have maxed your inventory, bought the best horse for the stats you wanted, and fed it to max, when I still have several more characters to do that for.

Yeah sure that is my choice, but I certainly don't see my money ticking up in the corner, I still have stuff to spend it on. I will happily take donations if you feel you are overencumbered with cash :)

Look at it this way... at least you will have tons of gold when ZOS decides to add more things to do with that money.

As for me, i've been spending lots of gold buying horses. I currently have a 42k horse and the 17k(i think it's 17k anyway) horse. I plan on getting more. As you might see i have a pet addiction.

In addition to horses, purchasing more inventory slots and weapons/armor, gold is very useful if you are a heavy crafter and don't want to go around harvesting all the time, or if you just want to level alts more easily.

In most MMOs gold is used for housing, housing decorations, cosmetic armor, cosmetic mounts (ie, same stats, but different appearance), barbers, consumables like fireworks or one-time teleports or gag emotes), pets and dyes among other things.

All of which this game doesn't have, or has implemented in a non-gold requiring way. Hopefully over time it will acquire more uses for gold.

One Vet DSA run takes 4-5h, I doubt you do 3-4 in a row every night ;)

And for the pots, yes I do buy those as well. 200 pots are about 20k. If you find just one ring you will get some 50-70k. So you see doing DSA actually makes me get more gold.
And btw DSA is the only content where I find every single run rewarding, because there atleast most loot is not bound :)

I play 3 chars, only the main one is v14 tho. All 3 have the horses they need and inventory is maxed on all 8 to store stuff.

Of course that might not be a problem for many people yet because I play since launch and play pretty much every day, but I think that more people will start to experience the same the longer the game is around...

I craft everything I need and also find the BOP loot myself. I too have max bank slots so yes my gold does pile but oh what a pile it is.

I also do give some stuff for free at times (purple food, potions, motifs, equipment) to friends/guildmates in need/don't have the gold/crafting mats/crafting abilities/RNG luck, etc.

Gold helps me to pay it forward while keeping a safety net at all times where I can buy something on the whim if I want to. :grinning:

But yes, I do think too many of these items are BOP which shouldn't be. I understand the intentions behind it, but all gear should be BOE in my opinion.

Millions of gold means nothing. It does not accrue interest so its basically dead. There is no "status" to having it either. There is nothing you can buy that anyone else can buy also. Gold is nothing but a tool to maintain your character.

The other feedback youve been given to edit the title is correct. This isnt about gold, but that you dont like bound items. If you seriously dont know what to do with your guild then you need to learn more about craft potions, craft materials, repairs, repair kits, upgrading gear up to epic, Cost of enchanting with glyphs, Buying extremely rare items or any item you simply dont want to farm, helping guildies and friends who may not have as much gold, buying horses, feeding horses, buying cyrodiil equipment, buying gems, investing in alt characters+everything listed above for them....i mean seriously i can do this all day. Change your topic title.

Well to be fair, if the players aren't willing to find the new things on their own even if it takes longer, then why should the players selling it not try to take advantage of it?
