Patch 1.5.3 EU - the story behind it

Saturday 08/11/2014, 10:45 PM: the last remaining devs leave the break room after a few drinks. Rice Robwel (name changed to protect his identity), leaves his computer on without any password protection. He was in charge of the new 1.5.3 patch.


Sunday 09/11/2014, 5:35 AM: Bob the janitor starts cleaning the open-space.


Sunday 09/11/2014, 7:32 AM: After finishing the room (which wasn't particularly clean), Bob catches his breath near Rice Robwel's computer. He notices a coffee stain on the "ENTER" key and proceeds to clean it up.


Sunday 09/11/2014, 7:33 AM: Patch 1.5.3 goes viral on the EU server. Computers all over the world start patching the launcher and soon lose the ability to enter Tamriel.


Monday 10/11/2014, 10:54 AM: Queen Ayrenn, King Jorunn and King Emeric are delivered in chains to the Imperial City. The 3 alliances collapse and Tamriel will never recover.

Every new fix, feature and improvement in an Update or incremental patch runs through a several stages from development to live. They start in small development environments and go through several staging and verification servers where they are gathered and readied for release to the live servers.

In all seriousness though, we appreciate everyone's patience with 1.5.3. We know some exciting fixes are on the way, and we look forward to having those available as soon as humanly possible.
