Does impulse need a nerf?

Before anyone starts with the L2P line, It's not about nerfing impulse because I've died to it and got angry and come to the forum to vent and QQ, it's about doing something about the impulse monkey spam train that is stopping all stations!

I'm AD and we are guilty of it, as is EP and DC.

Perhaps a nerf to that skill isn't warranted per say, but something needs to be done about the impulse spamming monkey mentality.

Thoughts?

    Im not big on nerfs but a change like this would make sense to me. Even if they left the AoE range the way it is. Would balance the damage a little better. With all the different skill ranges of players any changes to impulse could greatly effect ppls personal game experiences and should be done slowly.

    I personally dont use impulse but there is a definately a place for it in the game. They just need to find the right balance

    The idea of it doing less damage the more people it hits isn't bad. Maybe a reduction in damage every time it is spammed, for example- the damage gets reduced 3-5% each time you hit the button.

    I'm not huge on nerfs either, as my Streak has been nerfed 4 times or so but this needs some sort of change simply because everyone runs around in light armor and a staff.... maybe once stamina builds are better (1.5?) you will see less Impulse.

    Isn't it kind of contradictory to ask for removal of the hard target cap on AoE and then ask for implementation of a soft cap?

    The radius change while a nerf isn't going to stop the impulse monkey mentality from any faction, I did read the notes and I play at least once a week on the PTS.

    Sorc's have already had a few nerfs with things like the increase in manna cost with quick succession of a skill. I was thinking that something this might work with impulse.

    I'm okay with the damage it deals, and I'm not big on nerfs in general, but the spamming of impulse in Cyrodiil has become a joke.

    It still says 8m in-game on PTS anyways.... Hopefully they took notice of the bug report and will have it fixed or the note not included for falsity by tomorrow.

    When did I ever ask for any such thing? And as I understand it this is actually what's going to happen once the Champion System gets closer to rolling out. AOE caps lifted and damage will be spread evenly among targets.

    Actually trading the AoE cap for reduced damage on increasing #of targets... does not sound all that ridiculous to me... it sounds likea better balance for everyone... just my opinion but seems reasonable.

    I was more thinking on the past 6 months of begging for AoE cap removal by gazillions of players all over this forum and the minute it gets announced I read a thread that basically asks for a soft cap in the sense that depending on the damage drop-off there will still be a magic number where heals surpass damage.

    When I watch (laying dead) another faction take a flag it reminds me of the Musical "UP with people."..Up ..UP with people!! you meet them where ever you go..cmon and join in..we will line dance!!..this flag gonna turn soon!!     Impulse really isn't a issue by itself, its the fact that sharpened trait makes it bypasses all your spellresist and dealing stupid ammounts of un-blockable dmg.

    A non-sharpend impulse spammer hits me for roughly 125. The highest i've been hit for by one impulse with sharpened equipped is 609. This is with 5 pieces of impen. You see the problem here?

    Impulse doesn't deserve a nerf. Like every skill has its usefulness, Impulse is the most effecient self centered AoE skill to deal damage. As for zerg balls, just let them spam it as long as they are not lagging the server. The real problem is the lag, not Impulse.

    something needs to be done. im getting tired of these people lagging up the server with their impulse blobs(and yes they cause server lag. just visit thornblade for a few keep fights and you will see)

    I personally think it needs a 1.5 second or so delay between each cast. or maybe it should require a cooldown(course if it gets a cooldown, say goodbye to beating veteran dungeons)

    Impulse should have never been included in the game to begin with.

    PBAOE are near impossible to balance. They are either too strong (Impulse as is now), or uselessly too weak.

    Honestly, they should just remove impulse from the game, and replace the Impulse skill with:

    Repluse: Knockback all enemies in the AOE and deal very little damage

    In essence turning the skill into a utility skill...say your surronded by a gank squad, you cna say oh crap and hit Repulse to send them flying back and then BE or sip an invisibility potion to get away.'

    Something like this is useful and not OP as it can be countered very easily. It would give the staff more utility and give the other classes access to an escape skill that many complain the other classes don't have...Repulse would be very close to being as good as BE, not OP, and allowing people to flesh out excellent builds with it. just my 2 cents. not saying im right, but i'd like to have a Repulse skill over Impulse any day...i would find it more uselful.

    Just give it an activation time where you can't move while you cast it and things will begin to work better. It is not the damage that is the problem it is how easy it is to use.

    Second make it blockable. Almost all other AoEs in the game can be blocked, so why not impulse?

    Daoc had really powerful pbae attacks that were balanced based on the interrupt system and cast times on spells, instant cast pbae attacks that go through the only viable mitigation in the game (block) is pretty silly. Impulse though is not what's causing the stacking trains; that's aoe caps. Give it time and when they remove the caps you see less stacks except for the beginning of fights

    Again, Impulse, Pulsar and Elemental ring are all 6 meters on PTS as anyone who tested them can testify. True, it shows 8M in the skills window but once you add the Impulse skill to your ability bar it properly displays as 6M when you mouse over it on your skill bar.

    Using Impulse on Live will create a huge fire blast radiating out from the caster.
    Using Impulse on PTS will create a "poof" radiating out from the caster.

    I'm still of the mind that instead of multiple nerfs, buffs should be given to counters. Unfortunately Zeni feels differently. I wish it weren't the case that these abilities needed to be nerfed, but having one ability or a set of abilities become the 'norm' for pvp in a game that endorses creative specs causes more harm in the long run. I'm still against their 'fix' to silver bolts being to make it reflect-able. I'm of the opinion it should ignore reflect and shields as a hard counter to monsters.

    I would advocate a cast time for impulse since there are other 'heavy-hitter' abilities like Uppercut, Snipe, Crystal frags etc that already have cast times. If you played Skyrim those scrolls or staves of fire nova/blizzard/thunderstorm couldn't just be spammed. They had cast times and could be interrupted if you weren't careful, meaning you had to time it right and watch your surroundings.

    To cite an example from work, once upon a time years and years ago whenever stuff would go out of date (expire the next day etc), we had these little stickers with coupons on them. for like .50 cents off, .75, 1.00, 2.00 etc. These were intended for us to stick on out of dates for the customer to scan the little coupon to get a discount.

    However some customers started peeling the entire sticker off and sticking it on products they wanted, such as in-date items, or items from different departments entirely. (most of the time it was little old ladies who feel entitled to everything under the *** sun). So we had to discontinue that system and now use a very cumbersome and time consuming system where we individually scan each item to be marked down, print out a label, then put that label on it. The thing is we STILL get people trying to claim that "oh I found this with the markdowns, I should get it for markdown price".

    No matter how good intentions may be, if there is even the slightest opportunity, people will exploit. It's just one of those things that's inherent in humans.

    All I'm reading is a lot of missdirected anger.

    1) AoE trains would exists even without impulse if everything else was left the same mechanics wise
    2) If your issue is lag take it up with zeni. not the large groups, not impulse.
    3) All AoE skills ignore block and sharpened trait ignores spell res mitigation.

    There's nothing so special about impulse. Just a lot of broken mechanics, AoE caps and code or server issues that cause lag. And for the love of god using impulse is not an exploit.

    If you go by central animation size, the radius of PTS impulse would be more like 3 meters. If anything all they really did was make it easier to see whats going on through your impulse spam.

    Impulse doesnt need a nerf, only *** sharpened trait has to be fixed. People are impulsing on 0 (zero!!) spellresists rightnow, if they have a proper template.

    So dont waste your time here, better write some bug reports.
