horvandillusb16_ESO
Dear Zenimax art drectors and artists

In several Posts you have made very awesome badges for every race in the game except the imperial race .

See an example here

@horvandillusb16_ESO They do have one. The Imperial symbol is my forum picture next to my name. That is the symbol for the Imperial race. @AlexDougherty The dragon on the front of the Skyrim box art is the symbol for the empire not the Imperial race. As there are many races in the empire not just Imperials.

    Hope that helps.

Well yes, but no, but yes, but no. (Catherine Tate impression BTW)

The Imperial Symbol is actually a Red Diamond shape, which is why the Empire symbol is shaped as it is. But unofficially the Imperial Symbol has also become an adopted symbol for the Imperial Race too.

When a Non-Imperial sees it, he/she thinks of the Empire first, this is true, but he/she also thinks of the Imperials who run the cotton-picking Empire too (probably about two seconds after he/she thinks of the Empire). This is further re-enforced by the Imperials, all of whom have some version of it about (flags, on uniforms, rings, in artwork, etc.

I'm pretty sure that symbol was derived/inspired by Tiber Septim's Dragon (Naafalilargus or something) whom was considered "the jewel of the imperial crown". It eventually became a symbol for the Empire that Tiber Septim conquered.

So I guess that may be considered an imperial symbol in the third era and onward?

Pretty sure the imperials of this era respond more to the idea of red diamond with no internal figure.

I'm not sure this is the case. The Imperial Legion operated long before Tiber Septim and even though we don't know what its symbol looked like before, I think the dragon actually represents Akatosh.

The Skyrim logo is tricky. The dragon's wing has a broken tip; it's intact on the Legion banner in Skyrim. It's also missing the diamond above its head; this is consistent with the Legion banner which presumably lost the diamond after the destruction of the Amulet of Kings.

But still, this is a symbol of the empire. I'd stick to the in-game icon (Red Diamond) to represent the race.
