Mail System VS Notifications

Why do Notifications seem to work immediately and without relogs? Yet the Mail System is such that once you open and receive mail, you need to wait quite a while for additional mail to show up. Sometimes zoning works and sometimes it does not. A relog ALWAYS works.

Notifications can become quite annoying yet mail is important to us. I've also noticed hireling mail requiring a relog usually in order to appear on time. Swap them! Yes sure, I know you don't receive notifications while offline however that can be added to the system (unless it's the cause...).

I'd like to be able to disable notifications and screen spam when not in Cyrodiil when I intend to only quest or run specific things with friends without using an add-on. But the Mail System, is seriously lacking and needs an overhaul (along with a mail sent tab, reply button, etc... which currently I use MailR to see what I've sent and reply with ease).

I really despise these immersion killing notifications. We should have the ability to block that.

Poor implementation. The email system seems to use a queuing mechanism with periodic processing. By traveling to another zone or re-loging, the mail check is triggered. The reason for this could be that the mechanism is designed to able to handle high amount of emails.

On the other hand the notifications are using a broadcasting mechanism kind of in a similar way as the chat is working. The most annoying thing with the notifications is the fact that they are always on and are used for broadcasting irrelevant info.

Both systems need to be improved.

Agreed however I wouldn't have a problem if the email system worked as instantly as the notification system. In fact, that's EXACTLY how it should be. Instant. It's literally the most underwhelming feature in the entire, wonderful game we call ESO. They did great with many things, but the mail system just does not work. I understand it may be somewhat complex so that you may retrieve mail on each character once read but that hireling mails will only show up new to the underlying character all while people can mail/send you things which will go to all characters (account-wide).... so with that said it's understandable to a degree why it is the way it is. However 1.5 is upon us, there's no reason why it could've have had a revamp or tweak to become more reliable in all this time.

Hopefully we hear back that they are even aware of it and looking into some sort of upgrade/fix, etc..

I have only had a few mails take some time, most come right away or near to it. Some emails I have noticed I get 10 or 11 minutes after they were sent (from friends). However the emails from items I buy, almost immediately, or just a zone away.

Try this: Go buy something from the guild store. Open the mail and retrieve it. Now buy something else, rinse and repeat. Chances are it will not be instant whatsoever. Usually yeah 15-20 minutes maybe.. but I've seen it go on for hours and then appear instantly when I relogged. Very silly to have to even wait that long for mail in a game where you can instantly port around the world. It's also very tedious to have to relog, zone, etc.. in hopes of getting it quicker.

We all use the same mail system, it does not work well plain and simple and this has been known for quite a while. The question is, when will they say something to acknowledge this and set some expectations as to a fix/update?

Interesting that you said this. Because, last night I did just this very thing. I was filling up the que for research items and bought 13 traited things* from Guild Stores and Kiosks. I would buy some items from one place, then check my mail because I forgot if I had bought the gloves or the hat, then buy some more, check my mail again. Anyway, out of 5 total transactions (one for 3 items, one for 4 items, and three for 2 each) only one email series was delayed, and that showed up as soon as I changed zones (which I was going to do anyway as my crafting hub is not where I am playing right now)

So, I have tried this. Several times I have purchased multiple items on a few occasions like this (one was where my more social guild was selling Green Recipes for 1 gold, I spent about 50 gold that night across 3 toons. Not one of them them took any amount of time that I noticed to show up in my Inbox.

*The only reason I bought that many things is I found all the traits I needed on items that cost 200 Gold or less, and that's an instant buy. Now I just have to hold on to all these things for weeks until I can get them into research...

Enjoy the game, life is what you really want to be worried about.

I've notice in the last few days that mail arriving from Guild Store purchases seem to be coming in much faster than they previously had. The mail notification is still turtle slow. But lately more often than not, I've been seeing instant deliveries when I press ' to open the mail window. Not always, but significantly more often than it used to.

Not for me or any of my friends and guildmates that I have spoken to. Today I waited 15 minutes for my second email and had to relog in order to get it, zoning didn't help. See as you said one of them you had to zone, whether you were going to zone or not is not the point.. the fact that you needed to in order to get the mail AND on top of it zoning doesn't always solve it as today it didn't for me.... the mail system is inferior to any that I have encountered.

But your reply proves the entire point I'm making, in your case you had to zone in order to get a series of mail (which won't work every time by the way). Yet, if 20 different teams of guildmates complete a trial you'll get those notifications instantly. That is backwards to me, as one becomes annoying and the other you are waiting on!

Sometimes for me and some other's I've played with relogging doesn't always work. Sometimes I'm forced to wait like 10 minutes and other times it is instant. It's like my mailman is on skooma! So unreliable! GRR!

It could have been from whoever sent it which is out of your control. But once it's in queue to get to you, a relog should fix it. At least it does for me and if it doesn't always for others well that's even worse than we thought!!! Which means even more immediate attention is required.

As much as i don't care about immersion i do agree that the notifications are very annoying especially when a trade guild has a trials night. Dear god make them stop!

Yes, that whole entire 2 minutes it took me to walk to the wayshrine from the bank and select my destination and arrive before I got the two mails proves your point. On the one transaction that I had purchased two things on.

Mail is a problem, there are lots of complaint threads about it. I get notified of a sale by Shopkeeper almost instantly, but have to travel or relog to get the email. Not to beat a dead horse, but the way this f@*ks with hireling mail is ridiculous. If you want hireling mail on time, you have to set a real world alarm as a reminder to log on, travel, or relog. If you don't, hireling timing is wacked. It's beyond crazy that this has to be managed instead of having fun questing or PVP.

Yes it proves my point that you had to do something that you shouldn't have to regardless of how long it took you to get there. I'm not sure why you are defending a broken system but thanks for proving my point and then getting upset when you realized you did... it brings a smile to me. :grinning:
