Death and what it means

I'm wondering about death and it's consequences in Cyrodiil. In the real world if you die, you lose. Game over. In a video game when you die you usually have to face some kind of negative consequences. Broken armor, corpse runs, loss of xp, etc. However, I'm not really seeing this in Cyrodiil.

I'm a NB. I can't often kill people one on one, and that's fine. I can't do any sustained dps, and that's fine. I can't heal for ***, and that's fine. I can't tank a mudcrab, and that's fine. I wasn't meant for any of that. What I can do is escape. I'm really good at it. I almost never die when my alliance wipes in a battle. I invis, run, and hide, and I survive almost every time. Then I immediately ask myself "Why?" Now I am in enemy territory, alone. I can either spend the next 30 minutes walking back home, I can hang out in the field alone and gank people, or I simply pop out of stealth, die, and get right back into battle immediately. What use is escaping in PvP?

It kinda feels like I'm being punished for surviving. Which is pretty stupid.

Is there anything that can be done to make survival a higher priority in Cyrodiil? Perhaps get rid of forward camps, or scale the damage done to armor in death more towards it's set up in PvE. Any other suggestions or ideas? Or is there maybe some huge consequence to death in Cyrodiil that I have overlooked?

nothing...and BRAIDAS often says the same to gankers - there's no point to it in this game. make a new build (one that can tank well), join a group, or continue being more or less useless

A large portion of getting ganked, to me at least, is the free teleport I've just been given.

Thanks, dude! You just sent someone to wherever it is we actually need them most!

In PvE, death is annoying and increases repair costs. In PvP it's meaningless, although I wouldn't increase repair costs because you can be killed a dozen times inside of 30 mins, if you have a run of bad luck.

Make it cost AP to ress at tents.

2k first time then 30k, ticking back down to 2k over 5-10 minutes (kinda like porting while not at a wayshrine)

Tents need two things to bring them into balance --

    1. Make it so you can only use one if you are in the radius (ending Tentaporting or Blood Gating)
    2. Make them give out rez sickness (half damage dealt, half max HPs) for 60s to 120s after rezzing at one. This ends the constant zerg rushing out of tents.

Other things you can do -- make it so that tent carcasses sit for a while after a tent is burnt or destroyed with siege, so no new tents can be placed after it's destroyed. If it's just used up, due to the 20 charges being used, then you can immediately place another. This gives destroying the tent some meaning, and forces better defenses of them.

Yeah the only cost of death is that fraction of a forward camp you used .... which isn't enough of a cost.

Thanks for your suggestion, but I don't see myself as useless. I'm pretty good at burning camps and siege weapons, which is valuable since using a siege weapon on a camp or siege weapon takes forever, allowing them more shots or ressurections. I'm also useful when it comes to scouting the enemy's movements, since I can sneak faster than most people run, and it's almost free. There's more to this war than just killing things.

AP for camp rezzes is one of the best ideas I've heard yet.

Holy sht. Rarely do I ever read anything intelligent on these forums but this is one of the simplest most brilliant ideas ever suggested on this wasteland that is the pvp forums.

I hope I get censored by a forum GM just so the GM can realize this man's suggestion is an excellent solution to a pervasive problem in pvp.

ZoS please consider this as a solution. Thank you Dudis

Death to some is the cessation of biological function. This includes the brain. But mind -- consciousness -- is a substance apart from brain. It persists even in dream states and often even in death states. What thus is death? Do we ever really "die"? Does our consciousness flutter off into the nether realms above, below, and without the gigantic quantum simulation that is reality? Is our consciousness really just an illusion presented to us by our sensory organs and all our "choices" simply highly complicated feedback loops? What if we are already dead and our consciousness has simply created a timeless sensory loop in its last throes of rebellion against the slow decay of time?

So you want us to be punished for dieing in PvP? Here's why that is stupid and should never happen. Take a normal player "normal Joe" who isn't a gank. They have fun dieing and getting back into battle after dieing from a gank. They can go back an try try again helping in little ways for there cause with out fearing about being punished for dieing. So tell me why should "normal Joe" a mortal who helps in his/her own way be punished for dieing by the hands of a ganker who's never gonna die cause they use broken skills and most likely a much much higher level than him/her and only cares about AP ? Do you expect them to have a horse with 50% speed or them to spam immoveable while walking between keeps or stealth all over Cyrodiil just to not die and get back to the fight 30 mins to late? Cause they fear of being punished when dieing when it can't help it that most players in PvP are mindless ganking zergs who only want AP ? Cause in case you forgot not every one in PvP is veteran level so why should they be punished for dieing by a maxed level gank?

For the same reason that player would have to repair their armor after dying in Craglorn: because they died.

    Death works in my favor

Jump in, blow all resources on DPS

    Die

Jump in again, blow all resources again.

Repeat as needed UNTIL EVERYTHING DIES

Which wouldnt be a good thing unless the devs made 100% sure you would always gain more than you lose , which is the idea in PvE , hardly you will spend more on repairs than you got from just playing.

If they dont , then PvP becomes something you actually lose gold by doing and tons of players will stop doing it often that is for sure.

Same with the camps really , if it becomes a walking simulator where you spend the majority of your time trying to reach battle instead of actually pvping you can be sure a lot of people will also not bother that often.
