I'm really curious about the progressive removal of the VR system

As @ZOS_MariaAliprando said earlier in reaction to a post where a player was a bit confused about the progressive switch to the new champion system, Zenimax is still not 100% sure about how exactly this new system will work.

Shall the Veteran Ranks be replaced by levels 51, 52, etc... , or shall the players simply be level 50 when the champion system is in place? Well, they don't know yet.

But if they choose the second option, then this will open up the door to deep changes in Elder Scrolls Online.

First of all, there would not be any barrier at all between silver and gold contents after the level 50, and the players would have then the choice to address these contents in any order they want. Imagine a huge territory in Tamriel with a lot of contents completely free of access. That would be just great, and would possibly turn the game into a huge sandbox.

However, a lot of questions immediately pop up in my mind about such a revolution in the game:
  1. What would be the mechanism for unlocking power full pieces of equipment (weapons, armors, jewels, ...) as our character progresses in the game?
  2. What would be the prerequisites for being granted the right to access high level dungeons?
  3. How the difficulty of the creatures will adapt to the character progression?

I can see many solutions.

First of all, the right to wear a particular piece of equipment could be linked to our undaunted level for PvE gear and to our alliance rank for PvP gear. Secondly, the access to the dungeons could be linked to our undaunted level. Finally, the difficulty of the creatures could be adapted to the level of our equipment, or to our progression in the champion system.

But if they manage to find a perfectly working solution, they would be probably close to a situation where our characters do not have a level any more, and where all the contents of Tamriel could be accessed at any given time, with content that is automatically adjusted to our character progression. In short, a system a la Skyrim.

So yes, I'm really curious about the direction they will take for the champion system :)

so the people who spammed impulse, exploited the shield bash, and sat in large zerg groups spamming bats and fires staff and reached maxed out pvp ranks by exploiting and have no skill at all except to spam exploits in pvp are the only ones allowed the best pvp gear in the game?
sory, i have to disagree with you.

I believe that the max level will cap out at 50, Of course in future updates it will be raised to 60, 70, etc. But that is only my opinion/thought on the matter

I've not talked about unlocking the right to wear an extremely powerful new gear; it could be slightly superior and visually just cool.

As a side note, I would say that some people are already in VR14 full legendary stuff. These same people were VR10 using grinding techniques with pulsar some time ago. The actual solution to this problem is a matter of balancing the skills all across the board, which is something they are working on prior to releasing the champion system.

It's also important to consider that every MMO must have a continuous progression system so people can continuously have their character evolve as they play. Otherwise, it's like finishing the contents of a solo game: you might not want to play it again.

But such a continuous progression system must not increase the gap between the hardcore and the casual gamers. A lot of MMOs propose a tier system as a mean to maintain this gap within reasonable bounds. It works basically as follows:
    - When the tier 2 is started, the path through tier 1 is greatly facilitated.
    - The gap between the hardcore and the casual gamers is therefore reduced, and grows up again as the hardcore gamers reach the tier 2 cap.

I believe this is exactly what ZOS have in mind when they talk about the season system.
