2h Sorcerer

I have run into a dilemma with my sorcerer. I've come across a build that utilizes medium armor (and therefore stamina and crits) that aims to get off AoE damage. It also utilizes Mage armor. Is this viable?

I asked around in game, and someone was saying that the only stamina build that is viable is with a bow.

Also, would it be viable to run a 2h sorc tank? If so, how? Any productive comments will be appreciated. Just remember, everyone is entitled to an opinion.

They are balancing and ongoing changing the game to have no "best" thing.
First of all, when you use heavy attacks, you get back stamina on a hit.

Second, All armor have changed, both in their effects, passives but also what protects against what.

So called Soft caps are raised and there are talks about removing them.

Armor class, is important now. What armor you choose, is really up to you.
Since no one knows what would be "good". Only you do.

You say mage armor. That's not a correct term.
There is light, medium and heavy. Look at all of them. The effects.
Also, how you play is not only what you wear.

We got a "sorcerer" in guild who is using 2H as a main weapon and resto staff as healing backup. he uses 4 heavy, 2 medium and 1 light. For his reasons.

"Ran across a build"? Any build you see on the net, is outdated. And even if it was current, it may be outdated tomorrow.

Vision how you want to play, and play accordingly. :-)

As for stamina and crits, yes, its true that medium armor is good for that. So is heavy and depending on your attacks, light armor is magika based crits.

Players who "build" their char, before they even made it. Only get dissapointed, since when they get there, the build isnt what they imagined.

You say, You want to be a sorcerer class (thats just the base template, not your real class,) tanking in 2H and do AE damage.

Interesting. First, tanking is a whole world by itself and have no "best" either, even if 1+shield has the big advantage to be 2 pieces and shield adds armor class. However, you can be a type of tank, where armor class is not your protection :-)

As a tank though, heavy armor has several passives you really want.
If you are considering a hybrid build, like a Cleric or Bloodmage. Utilize raw power from Magika for whatever abilities you choose, heavy and medium for protection and tanking help, while using spells and 2H to do damage.

    Sounds pretty cool!

Just know. Any big hitter boss. Unless you find your way to deal with them....if they hit you and you have very little stamina left....you die.

"Tanks" very seldom does the damage in groups. They are more aimed for the big mobs, group abilites, buffs etc. But there is no right or wrong. Try something! :-)

I've recently just started a new character, sorcerer/ heavy/ 2H. Basing him (and the skills I choose to run with) on the Overlord from the Overlord game series just for pure personal enjoyment. If however, anything viable turns up I'll give you a heads up. May take a while, promised myself I would take my time and just enjoy the game with this one. :)

You just described exactly how to play ESO. All parts of it. =)

I play a 2H medium armor stam sorc as an alt. Its a lot of fun in PVP! The hardest part for me is just watching my stam usage between fights. I'm bad about sprinting or sneaking everywhere and having no gas when I find a fight. Are you looking at this more for PVE or PVP?

I guess for now I'm focusing on PVE with PVP in mind for the future. I came across the med armor stam set, and it looked really cool!

So is a 2h heavy armor build not too viable at the moment?

Scratch that last question. I guess I can play around with a bunch of different stuff and see how it goes :)

Do you want exactly tank build? I'm trying now DD sOrc with 2H/bow. It's pretty good for resource managment. Carve and Overload are made for each other.
2H bar is used for AoE damage, bow bar is used for single target bosses, (energy) overload bar is used for both cases and also for resource managment. So you can use abilities endlessly, when you are shot of magica & stamina you switch to overload bar and use ulti and magika (which is recovering with energy overload) when you are shot of ulti you switch to 2H and recharge it with carve. Heavy torso + med legs + 5 light or Heavy torso + light belt + 5 medium armour both variants are good. 5 light grants more dmg, 5 med is better for survival.

That was really helpful. I think I might try a 2h/resto staff and see how that works. If that fails, I think I'll probably go down the 2h/bow idea.

All the comments thus far have been really helpful and insightful! Thanks guys!

I used to have a 2H nord sorcerer in all heavy armor, I played with him in black water blade for some time, I did pretty well.

it all depends on what works best for you. if a 2H sorcerer in medium armor works for you, then use it. pay no attention to the builds that you see on the web. what works for others may not work for you. Find out what works best for YOU, and stick with it.

It also utilizes Mage armor. Is this viable?

Assuming you mean light armor, maybe.

I picked up circle of protection from the fighters guild line the other day to try it out on my templar caster in all light armor. It gives a substantial armor spell resistance boost.

It may be less helpful in PvP or PvE where you need to move around a lot but I find it essentially lets me play as if I'm wearing heavy armour.

    This is what I use

    1st bar:
    2 handed - usually a sword
    1. Critical Rush
    2. Brawler
    3. Wrecking Blow
    4. Critical Strike
    5. Bound Armaments
    R. Greater Storm Atronach

    2nd bar:
Dual wield- a sword and dagger
    1. Whirling blades
    2. Boundless Storm
    3. Silver Shards
    4. Elude/Rapid Maneuver (depends on how I'm feeling)
    5. Bound Armaments
    R. Werewolf Berserker

I took this to VR1 so far without any real problems. Survivability was an issue until I got critical surge. I have all medium armor, most with stamina enchants.

I might recommend using restro as second bar if you don't have a healer around with you. For some of the tougher fights I could call a guildie over to help with healing, but most fights I could do myself.

The min/maxers will say this build sucks. Is it perfect? No. Do I have fun with it? Yes! It fits my play style and no one really complains about my DPS. It's been good for PvE but I have yet to try the upper content so that is to be tested. PvP is another story. You need to be much more careful about what skills to use and when i.e. can't spam single skill *cough* impulse *cough*. Lot more dodging and hoping your healers do a good job.
