Herbs and Potion prices. What do you think is a fair price to pay?

I been ruining around looking at a majority of all the guild store merchants to see what the prices are on herbs. What I can see is that the prices are very different so I was thinking what do you think is a fair price for herbs or potions?

Consider this though.

You usually end up using 60-80 potions for one run of hard mode Dragonstar Arena attempt.

To craft the potions used for this type of content you need 3 herbs and of those 3 herbs you will get 4 potions so price per potion is (H*3/4=X),herb price=H . This means that if you buy herbs for 200g each your potion costs 150g each.

Crafting material trading is (well, should) be an important part of the game economy, my provisioning buddy was always complaining to me that people are selling herbs (in his case he was always looking for burglos, mountain flower & a few others) too expansive, so as he told me he was losing money if he wanted to buy flowers and craft potions to sell them for a profit.
Gathering materials (as in farming materials) it's too much of a hassle and too time consuming, doesn't worth the effort unless you're a casual and craft for yourself to use like 15 pots/day.

100g for each flower is a fair price in my opinion.
I make my own pots and gather my own flowers, however, for those that is willing to buy/sell/harvest flowers a 100g is fair price.

The poll isn't clear, if it's how much for potions then I would say Cost+20-30%. The cost of the herbs will depend on the utility of the potion to which it contributes and availability.

I was going to say the economy in the game is broken but there is no real economy as trade is limited to a few discovered items with no production based market place with recognisable supply and demand.

A fair price is whatever someone is willing to pay for it.

I think right now, with lots of new group content released in Update 4 the total consumption of potions on the server as a whole has gone up by a lot. If every player would have to gather the reagents for the potions they need on their own people would have to spent like 80% of their playtime time just collecting alchemy reagents. The current system relies (I think) on lower level players selling the alchemy reagents they find while leveling with questing where as VR 12+ players are usually the ones who buy plants or potions (because they need good potions in the hard PvE content [/and in PvP]). Right now the demand is higher than the supply that's why prices have risen.

Should it be easier to find alchemy reagents (in high numbers)? That's something to consider if the situation stays like this or if prices rise even higher.

In a free market economy, things sell for what players are willing to pay for them.

Considering that everyone can harvest and create potions, the only reason to buy these items is for convenience. So it really depends on how much you are willing to pay for them.

    Four hundred potions for thirty-thousand.

    So, 75 gold per potion.
    100 gold per herb.

I only ever pay 90-100 gold for herbs.

200 gold for a single herb? So, 400 potions for 60k? 150 gold per potion?

I'd rather share Hollow City with six other hungry herb collectors for four hours, only to end the day 10 Mountain flower, 3 Columbine and 2 Bugloss. When I have hundreds of Mountain flower and Columbine already, yet zero Bugloss.

I still find herbs at 100 gold and less daily, so I'm content.

I say 50, but that's more like an average.People who craft potions will also search herbs themselves. I do and I find the common herbs are just accumulating in my inventory. There's no need ever for me to buy blessed thistle, for instance. It's quite common and not particularly useful. I might be interested in buying the rare and useful herbs. The ones that do not accumulate in my inventory. Bugloss has been mentioned. I think you may be able to sell those for 100g each? Not much more I think. Potions last so short it will be difficult to get people to pay enough to make resource gathering or crafting for the market worthwhile.

You can find allot more herbs in the time it takes to get 250g... Well at least 3-4 herbs in the time of getting 250g.
A fair price is whatever someone is willing to pay for it.

Yes that is of course right but this was an attempt to get some guiding prices so people stop thinking they can sell herbs for 800-1200 gold for 1 herb.

But if you spend about 2 hours you will get enough herbs to craft 100 spell power potions. And it will take you at least 4 hours of hardmode content to use that up. So it's more closer to 50% of there time if they do Hardmode Dragonstar Arena all the time... Allot less time if you only do normal mode content.

But selling herbs is a really good income for low level players as you point out... If they don't become too greedy and think they are selling super rare stuff.

PS: Yes the formulation of the poll was bad. Sorry for that. See if I can change it.

Not all herbs are created equal. If you want a H/M/S potion for example, you have to use columbine and there are a few other herbs that you have to add.

So some herbs will be more expensive than others just because of scarcity.

Out of curiosity, what potions do you use in Arena? H/M/S? H/M/Spell Power? H/S/Weapon power? I've been debating which ones are better.

A lot of the more reasonably priced crafting makes are bought up by trading locusts that buy up all the good priced items so they can resell them back at bad prices.

    Typically it's 100g a flower
    10k for spell pots
    8k for weapon pots

This is what you find in /zone. In trade guilds all that is left are 12k spell pots and 150-200g flowers because the fair priced items were all bought up for resale. It's best to avoid craglorn traders altogether and start with lower alliance areas. Trade guild leaders should monitor their own prices as well, because one bad trader will turn people off to the whole guild merchant.

'0 gold' would be my answer - I harvest all my own alchemy ingredients and make all my own potions.

I guess it's because I'm cheap - I can't see paying anyone for something I can harvest/gather (or make) myself.

So you need 100 of the good triple. You will go harvest for a long time. I will go spend 2k or 3k and produce them immediately.

It sounds axiomatic but would charging 2000 dollars for a bottle of water to a man dying of thirst be fair? The situation is by no means similar to the game but I think it does reveal a deeper underlying obligation to each other.

100 per part when buying the parts, selling the end potions for 100 each (as you make 4 per combine but use 3 reagents , so that's 25% profit)

But as buying and harvesting the parts is a pain, I stopped selling as I need a few for myself when doing Vet Arena.

I combine them for free when guild mates sent me a stack of parts.

I generally agree with you. However once you reach a certain point in the game, you can make 1000's of gold an hour in a public dungeon just selling loot drops to vendors. I can make 10,000 to 20,000 just doing some Caldwell's quests without even noticing it. Then it becomes easier for me to give gold for that which I can gather myself.

That being said, I am now farming Bugloss, Columbine and Mountain Flowers as I seem to trip over them everywhere. Probably because I am not looking for them. Once I start to look specifically for them, I will never see another one.

Enjoy the game, life is what you really want to be worried about.

Indeed when you make 3k - 4k an hour, without trying, a lot of things just become easier to buy and really that's good. It creates a market for gatherers among other things.

I grab all the good stuff I run across but when I need, say 60, of the good triples, or attack potions for my VR7 Vampire NB son, not uncommon, we are serious druggies, I go buy some stuff.

A fair price is what the majority of players is willing to sell them for. The fact that some gold buyer that is probably high as **** will occasionally pay you 10k for a purple glyph even if you didn't ask him doesn't make that a fair price .

I would say that for the usefull potions 10k per stack and 100 per ingredient is kind of what most people will buy and sel
