Coming from GW2, is ESO worth playing?

I have a few lvl 80 GW2 characters and I haven't played GW2 in quite a while. ESO (I have 2 VR14s, almost 3 at the moment) to me is overall a lot more interesting, fun, and mature.

The biggest thing I dislike in GW2, is how people can purchase the gems and convert them to gold... basically allowing you to P2W. Also the story was boring as heck in most circumstances other than the last few missions. Dungeons here feel more like real dungeons in comparison as well.

Both have nice PVP and aren't too different.... except that PVP here are 3 alliances against one another, not 2 servers facing off. Battles can be much more interesting when 3 different alliances are fighting it out instead of 2.

There is no game on this planet which will be for everyone. That's no different for ESO. Overall, ESO is one of my favorite MMOs to ever exist and I consider myself an extremely harsh critic of MMOs as most I find completely and utterly boring. GW2 I liked, but I'll leave it at that.. like. The Secret World is an MMO that is also one of my favs but it's nothing like ESO or GW2. It's a completely different MMO other than it being mature, which it has that in common with ESO.

So yes, I think you should give it a try but you sound almost like you have pre-judged it. There will be people who don't like it and never tried it or others who give negative feedback because something they liked was nerfed, etc...

There are bugs being worked out still, however the game is still very new by MMO standards! Many things have been added and fixed as well, a few bugs persist but that's really about it. The updates in store for ESO look amazing and many are looking forward to several specific ones.

You do know WvW is 3 servers facing each other don't you? not 2 like you said.

If you bought into the "no trinity" line from GW2 than ESO may not work for you. ESO has the trinity and it works well.

What is the "trinity"? Just curious.

Yes it is 3 servers in total but at least as of the last time I played GW2 (about a year ago), you'd very rarely see both enemy factions and even more rarely at the same places of battle. Not to mention combat was a bit lame.

The only MMO I know besides ESO where you can frequently fight both enemy factions in PVP is TSW.

Maybe things have changed, but still it doesn't change GW2's combat and lame story. What I do like about GW2 however, are the jumping puzzles, world bosses that are on timers, daily achievements, as well as bank/inventory/materials management. Jumping puzzles.... are quite possibly the best thing about GW2 imo.

ESO's lore is top notch, combat is amazing and especially so in 1st person for the immersion. The crafting system here is nice and clean, the Dungeons are fun, and PVP is amazing (sure some of lag issues, but in general it's amazingly fun when all is going well). We need World Bosses that come at specific times of day.. like major Raid-type world bosses that require several groups to bring them down. Now that would be a heck of a lot of fun.

GW2 and ESO are two different products, imo you can't say one is "better" and one is "worse".

GW2 is very very solid, it's hidden zones and puzzles put ESO into shame in what should be one of its traditional perks. I still recall the secret area where you climb and then go down a giant mouth and all the subsequent mazes.

I was a closed beta tester for both... GW2 just felt like having being tuned about 1 year longer than ESO had.

Said that, ESO comes with things that neither GW2 nor most other games have.

It's *background lore* can't be compared. You risk losing some good nights with your gf while you are busy finding what happens next in some quest lines.
Also, what you do HAS a visible impact on the world. You help a village being pillaged by brigands? At the end of its "local" quests it's fixed like new, villagers happy and cheer at you. Tomorrow it's still fixed.

GW2 is so absolutely shallow in this. I loved the scenery more than the sometimes just silly storyline. Plus... what a downer when you'd defeat SuperMegaBadassEbilBoss just to see nothing change and seeing it repop 5 minutes later. Also, eastern asian looks are not for everyone (but ARE for others, that's why I say you can't really compare the two).

I loved GW2 PvP training NPCs, I love ESO's PvP region graphics and delves. I don't love ESO's issues in PvP areas, something I don't recall having in GW2.

Anyway imo the two MMOs are good each in their own ways, with ArenaNet improving GW2 over time while ZoS sometimes seem driven by crazy monkeys who love to break functioning stuff for the sake of it while ignoring blatant issues.

Anyway you won't notice ESO issues for a long time so you can happily play it up to the end of the main storyline (level 50).
Don't take shortcuts, don't skip anything, make sure you complete everything and then you'll have fun and will level enough to keep up with the new zones levels.
That way your money will be well spent. By the time you reach Veteral level 14 you'll have made your own opinion whether you can accept the ESO shortcomings or if level 50 (or VR 10) are a good time to quit.

I've been playing GW2 pretty heavily for the last 6 months or so and would like to take a break. I was wondering if anyone else had made the switch and whether ESO is an improvement?

I play along with my girlfriend so I'd like a lot of content we can duo. I've heard the game is pretty stale and uninteresting; is this really true?

I've found the game for £13 so am definitely considering it, just don't want to waste my money.

    Thanks in advance :)

If you enjoy pve then the game is probably worth picking up for that price and playing for about 2 months but after that your pretty much done and it is not worth paying a sub of $15 a month to continue to play stale and uninteresting end game.

So buy the game enjoy the quest line do a few dungeons/trials with friends cancel your sub move on to something else. This game is just a stepping stone till you're able to find something more interesting but it is worth the £13 for roughly the two months of game play you will get from it.

If you want to pvp I wouldn't bother at all with this game because the devs so far have done more harm than good from the few months I've been doing it. Zos focuses more time and attention to pve so the pvp side of the game is rather broken and when they do "SAY" they have fixed something they actually end up breaking it, mainly cuz their coders are probably the worst in the industry or are college interns who have little to no experience, this is just an assumption tho.
