There is something inherently wrong if someone is able to hold block and cast simultaneously. Some mechanics in this game make no sense!!!

    I wonder if adding block penetration to sharpened would help against the the block style pvp we have. Blocking would still protect against CC, but a portion of damage would penetrate the block and land.

    This isn't limited to casting; a number of stamina abilities can be done while blocking. When I rolled with sword-n-shield for a couple of months after game launch, I'd block and puncture bosses all the time.

    There are also a number of abilities you cannot do while blocking (volcanic runes, caltrops, negate, storm atronach, etc.). Any ability where you cast on the ground, have time-to-cast, or channel cannot be done while blocking.

    I can't agree with changing the block mechanics. I find some situations in Cyrodiil where I need to block a lot, but my stamina goes down really fast.

    If you want to take down a player that is blocking all the time, just keep hitting them with your quickest, least expensive attacks. They're stamina will be gone soon, and they'll be defenseless.

As I was coming back, I heard the NPC guards making a commotion. I watched a solo 1h-n-shield vampire do that wing thing, run to the flag, start batsworm, and block. I dropped negate onto him, caltrops, and volcanic runes. Between me and the NPCs, he died before negate wore off. Since negate does not affect blocking, he must have quickly ran out of stamina from all the hits.

    Map interrupt to something other than both mouse buttons. I block while casting those abilities you mentioned.

    wrong. I faced a player, who was blocking with a staff awhile back. I hit them with ALOT of rapid strikes, and they costs about 250-300 stamina for me at the time. I did it till my stamina went form full to empty, yet they were STILL able to keep block up. and it was a Templar, so no green dragon blood. and it was with a STAFF. NOT A SHIELD.

    the "keep hitting them until they are out of stamina" tactic does not work. if it did, then it would not be as much of a problem as it currently is.

    or its the fact that the NPC guards are pretty dang powerful.....

    Nothing beats holding block with a staff and sitting on a wall while arrows bare get through and just siphon health when needed. Its fun watching people go out and not being able to kill me with bow lines, staff lines and most other skills.

    Wow. Thank you for pointing this out! Now, I have to figure out how I'm going to make this work for me because I staff bash a lot when I'm fighting NPCs.

    I already have my 2 most used abilities mapped to my mouse roller for quicker responsiveness and mobility on my part. Hmmm. I'll have to think on this.

    True, they were the ones who did the most damage, but it was the number of our attacks that drained his stamina and my negate that shutdown his batsworm and self-healing spell(s).

    NPC guards are powerful, but I've heard of high-level players soloing resources. Someone in our group mentioned over TeamSpeak last week that a sorcerer friend of his did it using negate, impulse spam, and some other abilities. As soon as I'm VR12, I'm going to give it a try.

    I feel your frustration, but until that player comes forward with their gear and build, we don't know how they were able to do this. I suppose if you have three pieces of jewelry enchanted with potion-cooldown reduction, you could keep popping stamina potions. If you wear a dress, you could look like you are wearing mostly light armor, even though it is 5 heavy. We also can't dismiss the possibility that this player was hit with the invulnerability bug.

    I know when I block with my staff, my stamina can go really fast. So, I keep stamina potions ready most of the time in Cyrodiil.
