Should Activating Anchor Pinions have a Cooldown?

Okay, so as I've been grinding out dolmens trying to get my achievements, I've seen a lot of generally unpleasant and unsportsmanlike behavior from other players when it comes to grabbing pinions.

I've seen players stand around just expectantly waiting for the pinion to be clickable so they can grab it and doing absolutely nothing in anyway to contribute to clearing the anchor. I've seen players swoop in as other players are trying to clear mobs, grab any active pinions and run off. I've seen players yelling and trying to run each other off so they can have all the pinions to themselves. I've seen players purposely let others die so they can grab as many pinions as they can before said dead player can get back in the fight. There are other things but for the sake of keeping this from becoming too much like a rant I'm going to let be at that.

Now I'm not unsympathetic to those trying to clear the Chainbreaker achievement. I've gotten it on two characters and I know it's a pain to grind out. With so many people trying to clear it and only 5 pinions per anchor sometimes you have to just seize an opportunity. I also know that in an environment where your going to interact with other people, all of whom are trying to do their own thing, misunderstandings can happen. Sometimes a person could honestly be trying to help and not understand or realize they're doing something that inconveniences others.

In those situations nobody's really at fault. Things happen, dust yourself off and keep trying. What concerns me is the unnecessarily cut throat attitude that seems to be growing in popularity lately.

So my question is, should there be a debuff on players who've activated a pinion that would prevent them from activating another for 5-10 seconds to promote fair play?

*Now please keep in mind this poll is mostly just out of a sort of philosophical curiosity on my part so please don't take it too seriously. I'd also like to apologize in advance if anybody found this a bit long winded :).

There's an achievement for clicking 100 pinions. If you don't click on them, the anchor will continue to spawn mobs. Clicking does not bring the next round.

Clicking the 4th pinion will kill the mobs alive and bring on the boss spawn.

And this is exactly why achievements should be account wide so you only have to experience the grind pain once.

what if you solo em eh? activating the pinion is a good way to fill your resources/health and having it be on cooldown when soloing could be killer

I don't think there should be a cooldown, however I also don't think there should be any incentive *cough* achievements *cough* to try to steal/horde/etc. them.

Uhm, those two statements in in direct opposition to each other.

That said, from what I've seen, if you simply kill mobs and don't click the pinions, the pinions all eventually open up to be clicked, and the mobs stop spawning. At that point you can just walk around in peace clicking them, then when you click the last one, the boss comes.

Basically, IME, a pinion unlocks after you kill a certain number of mobs. Enemies come in to replace those you've killed completely unrelated to clicking or not clicking the pinion. However, clicking the final pinion definitely unleashes the boss. (I'll admit, I didn't realize it would kill any outstanding regular mobs, but it does sort of make sense.)

My favorite is when I solo the entire anchor and them some jerk comes along, fires one staff projectile at the boss (as it's already dead), then waltzes over to the final pinion and proceeds to spam E at it to prevent me from grabbing it.

No. That's mine. I did literally all the work associated with it. Let me have it.

That being said, people will be people no matter what. It happens. That's life. I get a bit ticked off, usually yell at the screen, "oh come on," or something to that effect, and then move on with my life. There will be other anchors, other pinions, and I've likely done the same thing in the past without realizing I was doing it (I may have even done it once or twice on purpose, I don't remember).

I do the opposite, i completely ignore the pinions because i got the achivement and therefore dye on my main.

So i just let others do the pinions when im playing on my main and both alts. :)

But anyway, a little competition does not hurt. :p I stay out of it though. :)

This is not true, there will be no enemy spawns eventually if you solo it and ignore the pinions.

Hi! I'm one of those who usually stands there and pins the pinion without contributing. You've got to understand me: I get to the anchor, and there are like 10 VR12 players almost one-shotting everything, not caring about anything, so being unable to contribute to the fight, I go for the pinions...
Other times, I'm there with just another player, we are struggling, and the other keeps killing mobs without going for the pinions (by now, all four of them are clickable): well then, I go for the pinions!
Really, the only anchors so fun not to send me running for the pinions are those with 3/4 on level players, where you can enjoy the fight without worrying too much.

Few months ago I got that pinion achievement really easy because nobody cared about pinions. When I had gotten it and was aiming for other achor achievements, I still had to click every pinion myself because everyone was trying to avoid touching them lol. Weird how people just now started to care about them

There probably should be a minor cooldown. As it stands, if you mash E you can get credit multiple times from the same pinion. Sort of like the sigil stone exploit in Oblivion. A 2 second cooldown would fix that.

At the same time, it would probably be more constructive to let multiple players interact with the same pinion. It would save most of the quibbling over who gets to flick the switch, and it would make the Chainbreaker achievement a lot less annoying.
