I made an argonian called "Kaut-Am-***". It translates literally to "Bites-on-tail".

As we all know argonian have tails. But Zenimax thinks it's too vulgar and sexual. (That or rassist or anything that is agains the code of conduct)

This is what "Kaut-am-***" means: http://i.imgur.com/pfeMh.jpg

*** is an ordinary every day word in german.

And if this wasn't enough. There is an NPC called "Kaut-Am-***": https://us.v-cdn.net/5020507/uploads/FileUpload/a1/1371eb2a49ab09542e94c7532325b7.jpg

Why do i have to change my name? I believe the support won't care for this matter, so i am posting this here, too.

Well, if there's already an NPC with that name, that's a reason to have to change it right there.

Seriously? Players can't have NPC names? Seriously?

While S.c.h.w.a.n.z. literally means tail in German, it is also a (German) slang word for p.e.n.i.s. which is probably why it is on the bad words filter list.

    It's THEIR game.

Besides since they release patch notes out in German, you might want to choose your clever names in another language.

Which is bloody stupid quite frankly, on an international server. All part of our ridiculously over sensitive world, that someone can't use a genuine native word when it may be construed as slang in another country.

    Hey Hiiko,

to be fair: the German translation for tail is ambiguous since it's used for a part on the male body that hangs at the front, too. ;)

If you think the name change was unfair please appeal the decision via the help portal on our web site. The fact that we have an NPC with the same name might help your case.

They should not be threatening people with bans. What are foreign language players supposed to do, carry around a dictionary that contains every slang word in every language used on their continental server!?

And, assuming your are on the EU server - being German - who cares if its US slang?

This sort of threatening micro-management from companies is grossly unprofessional.

Amazing how Zenimax can't release a decent patch but have time to run about micromanaging player names.

Ah, man... really? Don't do that. Come on ... I mean ... really?

All you are going to do is make Zeni make you change your name and then change the NPC's name in the German localization.

Look. let's be frank (or Franz?)...

I'm sure the folks who put that name in the game had a pretty good chuckle about it and probably rationalized their decision as, "Well, we are just directly translating the English version"....

And you know what - it is hilarious.

Just change your name and leave Bites-On-Tail alone. It's not his fault.

Because at the end of the day ....

Is it always the Argonians who must suffer the follies of man?

    Respectfully,

Then they should change it. But i don't agree with them having this npc and me not being able to give myself that name.

Ah looked it up, I see what you mean, thank you.

But, as its primary meaning is still legitimate, Zos should raise the matter with the player in a constructive way, not sling threats around. They are not exactly covering themselves in glory supporting the game, last thing they should do is make threats over a genuine word.

The bug team and the community team are totally different, but nice try.

Also, if you're going to make a name in German, the onus is on you to know what the name means. The OP clearly understood the slang meaning. The naming policy is also very clear. This is a non-issue.

That isn't a threat. That is letting you know that your account can be closed if you persist in creating names that violate the Code of Conduct that you, me, and every other player, agrees to when we created our accounts.

Let me guess, you also consider someone farting in your vicinity a 'gas attack by a terrorist' and think they should be arrested?

lol whole lotta but kissing going on.

Care to explain why it's ok for THEM to make a NPC with this name? Remember we want a respectful atmosphere for our players!
It's incredibly unprofessional to jump to threatening a paying customer for what was probably a honest mistake. Heck it wasn't even that. His interpretation was literal. a cat biting his own tale.

    1) As explained, it wasn't a threat, just an explanation of the rules. Relax.

    2) In all likelihood, the translating teams and the community teams have never even met. Even if we accept that the OP didn't know what he was doing with the name, it still isn't allowed. NPC names are off-limits to players. Period.

First of all, if they say they will ban my account if i do this again, they are threating me. What else is this? A joke? A poem?

Second it is not about me having the same name as the NPC for them. If it was really the case they would give me a notice and not an official warning and a "note" (in no way this could be a threat) that my account will be suspended if i do this again. And the code of conduct is nothing about NPC names in the first article about ypur character name.

Even Kai Schober says it will help my case that the NPC has the same name.

"Further account violations may blabla ban" is just a way of reminding you that you can be banned for it, most likely you could do this 20 times before they start to even think about hitting the ban-button, they still have to say it in every single violation that every single person does.. because otherwise the real offenders will come running back crying and saying they did not understand they could get banned for whatever they did. No opinion on the name as I'm not German, just saying that it was not a threat in any way and you wouldn't be banned for an honest mistake.
