...so is PvP pretty much big groups running into each other spamming aoe spells and the winner is the last group standing?

I'm new to this aspect of the game, but that doesn't sound appealing at all. People say that the alliances need bodies, so why should I play PvP? What's so great about it?

Why do you like PvP? What am I missing?

Cyrodiil is a lot of things which is why I like it. You never know exactly what you will run into with enemies running around. You can be in a big group, small group, solo (although dangerous), gank group, whatever. Help your alliance attack or defend objectives or do some quests/delvs.

It also gives more meaning to the alliance quests you do in PvE.

It's a little difficult to describe the overall experience but I'd highly suggest you check it out. I mean why not. (just wait until after they fix the crashes, hopefully with tomorrows patch).

No, don't believe everything you hear. Please go to a full population PVP server during primetime and participate in an hour long keep defense.

Most of the time battles will be fought with groups being very spread out and at range. The only time AOEs come into play is when people are funneled into a tight space such as a bridge or a hole in a keep wall. There are zerg ball groups that run in a tight bundle and AOE everything, but unlike what you see a lot on the forums, these groups are rather uncommon.

yes is simply a big group of people spamming aoe and 1 vamp wiping 100 people in 3 sec with swarm. No you are not missing anything.

Oh and crashing is part of win/lose keeps.

this comment above that i quoted is the correct answer. and is mostly all that happens all the time. there are occasions where we will find 10 v 10 but usually as soon as they report to the other side then one side comes in and swarms every one with constant batswarms and firerings and staff spells.

PvP in this game is what you make it.
You can chose to be a mindless (or not) zergling or you can chose to run solo and pick people off - or anything in between.

My favorite thing to do in this game is to kill small zergs together with my duo partner. That's allways a lot of fun :P

    Mindless zerging is fun brah.

My favorite thing is to have plenty of bros and sistas to try to keep alive in our mindless pug zergs while pushing for or defending keeps. The longer they live, the happier thar Nidwin is.

After 12+ years I still can get enough of it.
Keep warfare for the win, and whatever pukes thing, forward camps add a lot to keep it alive.

What do I like about pvp? Sieges! The sounds of walls breaking, screams of people as they topple off the crumbling walls, solo-ganking outside of outposts, running in groups of all sizes, AOE bombing... I enjoy pretty much all of it.

I have been in exactly one battle in Cyrodiil to capture a keep (Castle Faregyl). As I recall this was on patch 1.3.4 in August, after Update 3.

I joined while a group was attempting to attack the castle wall from the nearby lumbermill. Even though I was a DPS, I actually ended up going into a healing role to support the people who were defending the location.

I died twice, which I thought was pretty good for a first battle. There is a lot going on and a lot to watch and I was not familiar enough to know all of the places to watch.

There were no zerg balls at my location and I had never heard of the term at the time. I stayed at the lumbermill to defend it after the main battle moved to a side of the Castle that I could not see, so I do not know what was happening there. My location was attacked several times by small groups of enemy. People were pretty spread out and there were skirmishes in all directions as someone would try to pull defenders away.

Overall, I had quite a bit if fun. I was not kicked out of the game. I was not suffering from terrible lag. I never saw a bat.

I am not a PVP player and I have not been back in Cyrodiil since then, even though I did have fun while I was doing it. At the time, I had planned to return and to this day still carry around some stuff purchased with Alliance Points. I almost turned into a Campaign PVP player that day.

I did not return to Cyrodiil for two reasons, all of them to do with postings in the forum. Players announced in the forum that the Campaign I was in was overrun by the enemy and all sorts of accusations were flying around. I don't want to be a part of that.

PVP players have also been very negative about game balance and performance. I have almost zero problems with the game. I do not crash. I do not have lots of problems with FPS, in or out of combat. I can wear whatever armor I want and use whatever weapon I want. Since I am happy outside of Cyrodiil, I have decided to stay happy and stay out of Cyrodiil.

TL;DR: My advice is to go into Cyrodiil and see what it is like. I had a lot of fun while I was in there. If you have serious problems, like crashing, play PVE outside of Cyrodiil and the problems will probably go away. You might have the best luck with performance and crashing if you stay away from the main fight. Play whatever character you want, dressed how you like. You will die. It is expected.

Stay away from the forums. They really are the worst part of the game. Were it not for the forums, I might still be in there. It is too late for me, save yourself!

BRAIDAS eventually gets tired of killing so many and allows himself to die . Your mistaken pride is quite understandable, though foolish.

In my past couple of months PvP-ing at peak times and sometimes not, on the most populated campaigns, i say roughly,
    1. 50% zerg vs zerg (which is fun. part of big groups clashing with another in a relatively small space)(like wall just opened or bridges)
    2. 30% keep attack/defends (which are big battles spread across the keep)
    3. 10% "elite" bat group mowing down everything in its path.
    4. 9% riding across the field since link r down and there's no FC (50% of that being ganked by *** Nightblades)
    5. 0.9% small skirmish (1v1 or 1v2 or 3v2)
    6. 0.1% zone chat drama.

20%? Maybe you spent too much time actually PARTICIPATED in it. I listed 0.1% because all I do is "xxxx, you guys talk too much. less talk. less fight."

it completely depends on how you want to play. if you plan to do large group battles, it IS like the forums say: Zerg/impulse blobs. anyone that says its not is lying to you.

now, it wont happen every single time. but it does happen enough to the point it can get old pretty quick.

if you want to avoid dealing with these..... AOE blobs, as ill call them, then stick to small skirmishes/ganking. that's the best way to avoid having to deal with them.

however, like I already said, these blobs don't happen every single time a large battle is on. when it does NOT happen, it is VERY fun. Possibly one of the best PvP experiences ever(course, I have not play DAoC, or those other MMOs, so don't quote me on it:))

Are we talking about EG or EHJ here? I mean Kage and pugs effectively wiped bitaken on a consistent basis, and pugs wipe EG when they can't spam respawn at a FC and PvDoor. I sense some projecting coming from you, Braidypoo.
