1.4.3 is making me rethink this game.

Issue with patch 1.4.3

“Vampire
Fixed an issue where you could stack the Dark Stalker passive with the Night’s Silence or Shadow Dancer’s Raiment item sets to move at mount speed. This is no longer possible—you get the bonus from either Dark Stalker or Night’s Silence or Shadow Dancer’s Raiment.”

Vampires - in myth, and legend, are purported to be the fastest moving 'creature' (that I know of anyway). I cannot understand this reaction to “fix” the speed finding out that vampires can move faster than anyone, but the decision to be a vampire does have its drawbacks. Everything has a positive and negative.

To give some background on myself. I was not a MMO player when I started playing ESO. Personally I have a very long history of playing games on PCs some 32+ years now. I started playing PC games on an IBM PC 5150 turbo XT clone back in 1982 with an 8088 CPU and today through many upgrades have an x79 4960x with 3d surround 4way quad SLI titans with 1 titan black for dedicated Physx. I have always played mainly RPGs that were single player, four of the best RPG games I have ever played were Daggerfall, Morrowind, Oblivion, and Skrim. With Skyrim being one of my absolute favorites until ESO was released.

One of my good friends that plays a lot of MMOs warned me about MMO in general and told me to stay away from them if you know what is good for you.

Three things:

1.) He said there will be a lot chatter from people that are just plain stupid or mean. From my observation I only saw this the first two months of play but recently I have not been observing this behavior I don’t know if this because I am not seeing it or maybe at higher levels this is just less of an issue.

2.) He said watch your play time because he said he knows me and I will lose myself within the game and this will cause wife aggravation. This he was 100% correct, but now I believe I have some control over it, however it still like a drug or an addiction but I do have some will power and can set limits on myself then stick to them.

3.) Most important he said at some point the designers will negate or nerf something you do. This is the reason I posting the message to this ESO forum.

When I have seen things nerfed in the past it was small correction here or there nothing in my opinion earth shattering or changed the game play completely for anyone. After patch 1.4.3 unless something changes to revert the damage done I may quit. I realize I am just one voice and one vote but I cannot continue paying for the experience. For me the changes done to the Vampires are so detrimental to the game play it is not fun anymore. Personally I love the vampire genre and I have spent countless hours building my character around the vampire experience. The only thing I have focused on is movement speed but at cost to everything else. I have always only used medium armor and unlocked “agility”. From the very first time I have found the Steed stone I have never picked another. I unlocked blacksmithing, clothing, and woodworking so I may imbue these items Night’s Silence set. I was gifted Vampire blood and unlocked Dark Stalker. At this point I could move like a galloping horse in stealth mode. Although when I entered combat in most cases unless I was very careful or had a healer I would not last long. But for me this was a good trade. Now with patch 1.4.3 I move like a normal character walking speed in stealth mod and I am still weak. I feel like I have just wasted hundreds of hours for this privilege. Please fix this and restore the Dark Stalker stacking ability.

That is exactly it! I was very happy and having a blast. This is the first time I have been on the forum. My good friend rather than telling me I told you so is empathetic which makes me think he is even a better friend than I originally thought. Now I am looking for what else is out there.

If I recall there were actually more people on the forums in support of keeping the stacking effect. There was only a small vocal minority that kept whining about it.

I guess the answer to your quandary is weighing if not being able to move as fast in Sneak while not in combat outweighs all the other things you still find enjoyable in Tamriel, @NeoXanthus. While I understand your disappointment in the change, if "I can sneak fast!" was the only reason you were playing the game it seems your enjoyment was tenuous at best. Perhaps it's a chance to focus on another attribute of your (FILTHY, FILTHY) undead existence and capitalize upon that instead.

Of course, as your friend advised, there could come a time where there come changes to whatever that may be, as well, for better or worse, and then will come time once more for reflection upon your (DIE, MONSTER) undead existence.

Yeah, I'm hoping OP is doing some CUDA-dependent work on that monster, as well as some heavy CPU tasks. Otherwise, it's just a very expensive gaming PC that won't get the job done as well (marginal, but still slightly better with magnitudes of cost effectiveness) as something like a 4790K w/ a couple of 780+ GPUs.

Actually this post was not about my system but if you most know when running 3d surround between three monitors, 4 titans and I am sure 3 titans or GTX 780’s would do the same thing, I get between 55 to 85fps with everything turn up to the max at 5760x1080. So yes there is an advantaged to the high end SLI. Now why do I have 4 way SLI and 1 card dedicated to PhysX there are other titles I sometimes play. Metro 2033 is one and I play that in full 3d which without dedicated PhysX is not really much fun at full settings. But I digress this post was only about the recently change to vampire tree. The systems specs were to show progress from a 30 years ago to a modern computer, but after reading some of the comments I think I should have omitted it.

I don't have a problem with the vampire speed stacking.

It would have been a unique build, so long as it was hurting in other aspects like survivability.

A glass dagger than moves faster than horses? Sure... provided it can't survive too easily if it gets caught.

I fought against this for WEEKS with LOGIC, INTEGRITY, and COMPASSION.

In the end ZOS sided with the selfish jerks parroting for nerfs to this like mindless lemmings, who, truth be told, just wanted to screw up a cool feature that added absolutely NO advantage whatsoever because they personally had an unrelated rage vendetta against vampires in general.

It would be like giving little Johnny a tasty treet for smearing his poop all over the wall. I can't BELIEVE that ZOS is catering to this behavior.

I agree with you so much, I have to say I really don’t want to be on the forum. I believe it is a good idea that be people can share ideas about what is right or wrong with the game. However if I am on this forum I am not in the game, and I want total immersion in my alternate universe. Does ZOS ever revert changes? Even bad ones?

It is my own fault you are right I should have listen to my friend, he has not steered me wrong yet. Skyrim was fun I have some 1100 hours playing and I got play as a vampire without any vampire haters except the Dawnguard. This ESO is/was fun but moving fast is that important to me. Heck after a few months of saving I even purchased a draft horse and leveled him up with only backpack space because I really did not need a horse but I needed the space.

This patch is also making me rethink the game. The last game I played was Final Fantasy 14. As we all know 1.0 was terrible but at least had some fun elements so when they switched to 2.0 I bought 6 months up front thinking it was going to be like 1.0 but better. They ruined it and made me never want to buy 6 months up front ever again.

Since this game started I have only been paying 1 month at a time because of being burnt so hard by Square and their boring repetetive gear grind only. But after this update I think I am going to buy 6 months up front.

I thought it worked as intended as well. That is why I did everything I could to enhance the ability even further. How many Vampire books, movies, or stories do you know with slower moving vampires? Again it is choice to move fast you give up a lot and you are no wrecking ball in combat.

@NeoXanthus‌, I dare say you, like many of us, received 'the gift' for purposes of playing a Vampire...not the bonuses it gave or the power, at least not directly.

To be more clear, had there been a non-vamp way to have the same skills, passives, etc, you strike me as the type that would still have gone the route of vampire (even with its drawbacks).

Vamps are supposed to be powerful. People forget this. We 'miss' some of the traditional downsides (sunlight, for instance). We also miss some of the traditional powers: Bat/wolf form, summoning, the ability to Fear.

Heck, we don't even get a taunt in the vampire line, and mystform - that is, the form of myst, can still get hung up on blade of grass or widely spaced prison bars?

This is what should have happened. A simple speed cap would have sufficed. They needed to adjust it, not cut it off at the knees.

Personally, I never noticed a difference from the Steed, testing with Teamspeak timed races with a fellow DK.

Lastly, my friend, I'm afraid you wish in vain. It's easier to chop a limb off than to grow it back, so the change likely is what it is.

I hope you do not let this, alone, deter you from a wonderful game with many possibilities.

For the record, I went vampire solely for the sneak speed boost in conjunction with dark stalker.

I like it though, so I am not going back. It's like, there's upsides to this skill line, as opposed to werewolf where I was just walking around with a fighter's guild weakness.
