Depends who you ask. But many would say the best comes from trials or PvP box rewards. On that note tho, some of the crafted sets are quite good as well.

It's a mix of both. Most PvP players are finding the blue boxes bought that occasionally drop a set are the best choice, but then the PvP blue boxes are for the most part best suited for.... You guessed it PvP!

Having said that, some if the crafted sets are fantastic, I'm still using a 5 trait set being hundigs rage along with some of the blue box AP bought gear. Works a treat .
Been here since Feb 2014 - You'd think I'd be half reasonable at this game by now...

It really depends on what you need. My 5-piece set is crafted where my 3 piece armor is wise mage and 3 piece Warlock jewelry. If I could craft jewel, I'd probably go with a different 3-piece set.

Allow me to add this: Crafted sets give more armor and deal more damage than drops.

Crafted sets SHOULD be better. That's what the game promised, and that's what makes you want to craft in a game. Otherwise, you just say s c r e w it and lose interest in crafting. For some people, that means you also lose interest more quickly in playing the game.

I play a sorcerer as my main and I've looked at all the vet dung and trial gear to compare it to crafted gear. Based on what Ive tested and seen the crafted gear is in some ways better depending on your build. However, there is a small and I mean extremely small upgrade for certain set builds that drop from vet dung and trails.

So because the vet dung and trails gear is imo horrible I don't bother wasting time with the grind. Sure doing the dung and trials with friends a few times is fun but when there is next to no real reward there is very little motivation to continue with a grind. If the Zos devs start making real gear drop from doing vet dung and trials I may take up doing pve again.

For the most part, crafted gear is better than looted gear. Crafted armor has a few more armor points than looted, and crafted weapon damage is a little bit more than looted. The main reason that crafted gear is better than looted gear is that a lot of looted gear comes with stupid traits that can't be changed. For example, you loot an epic V12 Cuirass that has the exploration or well-fitted trait. Useless. Crafted gear, on the other hand, can have any trait you want.

I remember when crafted gear was the best you could get in Ultima Online. Man, people would line up at the armorers in town (yeah, other players stationed around town) and place orders and pay right there. It was soooo cool. You'd stand in line and visit with other toons (chat bubbles, loved them) while waiting your turn. Now, that's been more than ten years, so I can't remember what changed all that, but I sure miss it.
