Templar or Nightblade Trinity

If I am looking for a class to do DPS, Heal, and Tank with would Templar be as solid a choice as NB?

I know for trials it is pretty much healing or bust for Templars. What about just veteran dungeons and other end-game? Can Templars DPS and Tank well enough that I wont get hassled for queuing as one?

I see a ton of rhetoric thrown around, and I would like to invest heavily into a character. I just don't want to get pigeonholed into healing and only healing at end-game.

Thanks,

Cavak

At the moment, Templar is possibly the best tank. For dps, people generally welcome all classes in 4-man dungeons.

The only place templars are shunned are in the trials and that is because of the lack of dps compared to the other classes, we don't have that single target burst dps, but they are beasts for solo and pvp. They have survivabilty that you can solo pretty much every thing. They make the best healers due to the burst healing. Very good at tanking too. I tank and heal with mine without changing gear, i wear all light armor. And for the 4 man dungeons tanks and healers are the hardest to find, so it's a good choice as you will be able to find a group easier because the vast majority of people advertise as dps.

To answer your concern, in end-game, yes you will most likely be pigeon-holed into healing as a Templar if you want to get into solid groups regularly. Healing is what most Templar end up doing in end-game.

It is possible that you will find a tank spot in a solid group because Templar really do fine at tanking, but it is almost impossible that you will find a DPS spot in a decent group unless you are very well known to them as one of the rare solid Templar DPS.

I'd say Templar is the best class to do all. It may not be the best at all three but is viable in trials as any of them.
As for their dps they can parse 1300 sustained in perfect conditions. More often though they get 900-1100 which is fine for trials.

I don't run Trials, I do a lot of spelunking in dungeons though=P Templars are great healers and awesome, awesome tanks. I regularly run with a templar tank, we've 2-manned vet Wayrest with him, he's great. He can hold pretty much any boss(short of special one-shotting mechanics, naturally) on his own, without even needing my heals.
He is a rather meh dps though, but that might have smth to do with not using bathrobe+staff for dps'ing. I'll run with templar dps any day, anyway, I don't mind. Might be slower but steady, if people know what they're doing templar surviveability is through the roof.

If you want to have that uberhighest dps in game for sure, right now Tempar might not be the class for you, though, but I'm hoping they'll fix it(soon^tm>.>).

Also, keep in mind that Nightblades are not the preferred healers for top level endgame. Templar and Sorcs are ahead of Nightblades for the healing role.

For anything other than top level endgame (i.e., trials), any class can play any of the trinity roles. The only exception is that many people don't like having DK healers, since DKs are less suitable than the other three classes for healing.

All light armor vampire templar with blazing shield and inner light toggled as a Altmer for race passives is a Vampire God mode. Resto staff is fun but i like spamming blinding flurry or steel tornado. Both can tank but duel wield is better Aoe. Invigorating drain recovers stamina if needed.

I run a near immortal Nightblade that can heal too.

Full Light armour (Warlock jewelery(although not that important))

AOE bar: [Destruction Staff(Fire)]Power extraction, Elemental Wall, Pulsar, Siphoning attacks, Inner Light.

Single Target/Healing Bar: [Restoration Staff] Funnel Health, Rapid regeneration(or Mutagen both seem to work well enough) Dark Shades, Inner Light.

The AOE bar is pretty self explanatory.

The single target setup (combined with the AOE) can solo every boss i have tried it against so far, when i was VR2 i soloed every non veteran group dungeon.

Most boss fights go like this...

Rapid regen> Dark shades> then a ton of Funnel health spamming with siphoning attacks up whilst blocking. If you ever need to top up either your magicka or Stamina just do a couple of resto heavy attacks and you're full again. It really is that simple.

There's another version of this as well that has a sword and shield in place of the resto staff replacing healing path with rapid regen, but after testing i found it just didn't have the longevity of the resto staff although still was certainly good.

Out of all the bosses i've fought the only one that was tricky was the "Bloody Judge" In Sanguine's Demense. The guy spams uppercuts as well as does this large AOE DOT called "Zone of Cold" or something as well as silences you. Was a brilliant fight.. but after one brief mishap i managed to kill him too.

I haven't tested how well this heals a group as a primary healer really.. but the numbers in the top left corner tell me that it heals for approx 500-650 healing a second.

I think Templar>NB>Sorc. Not done trials, but my guild does and they agreed that an NB would be better than a sorc for healing. SA is truly amazing.

Sorc and NB are both good healers, and I've played as healer with both classes.

NB probably has better magicka sustain than sorc due to SA. This is especially true if the NB healer does animation cancelling (cancel light attack into healing springs). Sorc has dark exchange, but must abruptly stop healing in order to use this skill.

Sorc has the advantage of power surge, which raises weapon damage to increase the amount of healing per skill use. This is a large advantage in single target situations. NBs can raise weapon damage using drain power, but doing so request the presence of a large number of adds. In small groups, NB can make up for some of the loss in raw healing amount with funnel health, which heals more than mutagen/rapid regeneration.

In the end, both Sorc and NB are good healers.

Personally for my own style, i prefer sorc a little more for healing. This is not because of actual healing ability, but because they have a higher dps while healing by proc'ing crystal fragments.

But nowadays, in endgame pve, there are tons of templars around available for healing. So people are just used to having templars, even tho a sorc or NB would also be capable of healing.
