nah uh. Knew that some smartass would do this, i want to know what people in these threads consider skill. What makes one a skilled player. What must one do to be the "skilled" vs the "skilless lolhax baddie, lolcheat blahblahblah"

Will just say this, in a fairly lighthearted way:

Put on your favourite "bathrobe" set. Wield your favourite "broomstick". Choose the relevant magick skills that allow you to blast away merrily, while hardly ever struggling on resources (that is, magicka). While doing that, you are also free to block, and if in need do the occasional "evasive roll", "shield up" and such. You win. Skill.

Try to play "warrior", in any possible and fancy way, build and setup. You won't go that far. You lose. "No skill".

It might look like an exaggeration, but if you want to be honest, this is all about ESO, currently.

I guess a few factors are taken into consideration, well not by most of the people here on the forums, but I digress; it's all about overcoming odds with quick thinking, fast reactions and preemptive planning.

Anyone can kill someone in an Impulse train, that doesn't take skill at all. The same goes for bat swarming into a group of players and taking a few out; you'd think the odds are against you, but they're not; having one overpowered build against a bunch of mediocre builds is the metaphorical equivalent of me outrunning 50 4 year olds in a track race.

Real skill is winning when people think you're going to lose. It's all about overcoming the odds.

I'll actually take your post seriously. Very few things in this game take any skill, whatsoever. All it takes is determination to learn, get better, find out/test the best ways to min/max, etc.

The only skill whatsoever in this game is position and situational/spatial awareness. Knowing what to do in the right circumstance, positioning yourself perfectly per your role (whether its a healer how to position yourself in the safest location possible while also fulfilling your other roles). In addition positioning can be looked at as dancing in and out of oil pot ranges and other enemy threats to still be effective, but minimize your risk to actual damage. These things take time to learn and some people are better at it than others. Pressing buttons is not skill, using skills is not skill, min/maxing your character is not skill anymore (way back in the day when it wasn't so prevalent for builds to be posted online and game gear being simplified significantly.. min/maxing actually took a bit of skill with someone willing to put the work in and do the math (I'm talking like Everquest time here where there were literally thousands of different types of gear that could be viable, in games today it tends to be very, very simplified that even a monkey could figure it out).

My 2 cents. Learn how to position yourself effectively and be able to understand how to react to situations/be aware of your surroundings as you play. Just because you're running around can you remember who was behind you a few seconds ago? At what risk are you to X,Y,Z, etc. These things, like I said, you need to learn, take practice, and some people are better than others. Effectively skill.

I'll take this seriously as well.
It's really individually dependent in my opinion. The animosity between zergs, squads, solos and gankers will always be there, especially in rvr like this.

Everyone wants credit, but the game isn't designed to promote the individual unless he/she is at the top of the 'group'. Hope I'm making sense here.

Myself, I do it all generally. Different skill is still skill. Just because I havea prefered way to get things done doesn't mean I can't see the skill of an individual fighting in a different path.

if anyone can do it, its not skillful. Anyone can sit in Impulse blobs, pressing only 2 buttons, and get a lot of points. that's not skillful, that's just an easy and lazy way to get points.

if all a player can do is spam puncturing strikes, or lava whip, or impulse, whatever skill, its not skillful. its harder to actually use all of your abilities, than it is to just spam one.(nor should just spamming one ability work, but it seems to a lot of times, which is lame)

Every class is useful in some way. The skilled players are the ones staying ahead of the curve. Currently that curve is largest for NB's since everyone wants to be a super sneaky assassin 420XxXnoscope that they aren't playing by far and away the best spec for NB's in pvp.

Honestly...its all about having reaction time and fight IQ just like ring IQ in boxing.

    1. Average players (and below) do what they can and Skilled players do whatever they want.
    2. Average players have this weird code where they intentionally limit themselves.
    3. Average players give up all the time. They give up all over the place and
    4. Avg Players dont do the research.
    5. Avg Players get angry and return to the scene of the crime to die again.
    6. Avg players always say "they dont care". He who cares the most about killing someone online wins.
    7. Avg Plyrs are like a deer in headlights. They have no idea what to do when the pressure is on.
    8. Avg P's believe they lose to cheats, hacks, exploits, bugs, lag. When they realize this isnt the case, the move on to another game.
    9. Avg have no umph, pizzaaz, adhd, hot blood, will, fortitude, guile, wit, speed, etc.

I hope this doesnt offend anyone :open_mouth:

Skill is the Aoe Barbecue method of play.

I require no rotations. Neither do I ever press any button on purpose. Pressing specific buttons for specific reasons is the playstyle of casuals and peasants. I do no such thing as "min-max"or pay any attention to my position. I am not vexed by such plebian concerns.

The Aoe Barbecue method is this: (1) Be a Dragon Knight. (2) Smash your face into your keyboard. This method is guaranteed to enhance your e-peen exponentially, as well guarantee unlimited girlfriends. Seriously. Ever since I started slamming my face into my keyboard I cannot stop having sex. Girls, go away ffs, I have a game to play.
