Tooltips

Could we get a thread going that lists problems or misleading statements in tooltips?

I'll start:

Templar:
  • Crescent Sweep: Enemies in your frontal arc take an additional 33%

What is "your frontal arc". Just give me a %.

  • Puncturing Strikes / Biting Jabs / Puncturing Sweep: Four consecutive attacks for [x] Magic damage to enemies in front of you. Closest target takes 110% additional damage.

Does not update additional damage % value when there is a % damage modifier applicable. For instance, when a restoration staff is equipped the tooltip for blazing shield's damage return is changed from 53% to 58% due to the 10% additional damage (also works with backlash %). This tooltip should be updated to reflect additional % damage so it should be reading "Closest target takes 121% additional damage".

The 10% additional damage is not currently being applied to the 110% additional damage portion the way it should be. Currently the 110% additional damage is calculated based on the initial hit's damage which includes the 10% additional damage from the staff but does not actually apply 10% additional damage to the final value. In my opinion the 10% additional damage should be applicable to both the initial damage and the 110% additional damage despite the 110% additional damage being based on an already modified damage. This is the nature a spell doing a portion of its damage based on it's own damage. So overall the damage to a single target with 10% additional damage should be 9.724x instead of 9.24x currently, where x is the base hit damage. Clearly, the damage modifier is simply being applied to the overall base damage of 8.4x, which is 4 hits of x + 4 hits of 1.1x.

This change nets .484x extra damage overall. This is such a minor change and would, on average, add about 30-40 damage assuming hit damage is between 60 and 80.

  • Nova/Solar Prism/Solar Disturbance: dealing damage and stunning all allied in the area.

    How much damage?

    How long is this stun?

  • Reflective Light: Snares 40% for 5 seconds.

Snare length does not reflect the 20% increased duration of dawns wrath abilities from enduring rays.

This may apply to Sun Fire and Vampire's Bane as well but I cannot check currently.

  • Solar Flare/Dark Flare/Solar Barrage: Next attack against affected enemies gains 55 weapon damage and 55 spell damage.

Please update the list of non-applicable spells / abilities. For instance this bonus is not applicable to puncturing strikes/biting jabs/puncturing sweep. There may be others as well (I've heard all channeled spells but I don't know).

  • Unstable Core: damage to nearby enemies when effect ends.

    How near? 1m, 3m, 5m, 10m?

    Two Handed:

  • Heavy Weapons: Deals 5% additional damage with Two-Handed Sword equipped.

This 5% increase is not reflected in many tooltips, especially spell tooltips. Although after some initial testing it appears to give spells the extra damage, just not on their tooltips.

Also, what "deals"? The weapon? The player's attacks in general?

    Mages Guild:

  • Inner Light: Reduces Max Magicka by 5%.

No it doesn't. It prevents magicka from regenerating past 95% full. Ability damage is still calculated based on the full pool of magicka, not 95%.

    Redguard Skills:

  • Vigor: Increases Stamina Recovery while in combat by 9%.

Misleading to add the while in combat text. I know that there is Stamina Recovery Idle in addition to Stamina Recovery, but after a while I completely forgot that the normal listing for stamina recovery is stamina recovery while in combat. I almost put in a /bug because I thought I wasn't getting the extra recovery while in actual combat.

  • Adrenaline Rush: Restores [x] Stamina to player when...

Please change this to "Restores 3% Max Stamina to player when..."

    Blacksmithing/Woodworking/Clothing:

    Crafting:

  • All Expertise skills: "increases the chances...", "Greatly increases the chances...", "More than doubles the chances...".

Tell me the chance that it increases please. Also is the chance increased over the previous rank of the skill or the base amount without any rank at all? Do the same for the extraction skills too.

There are probably many others that I don't have listed. Please add the list, I will try to update this with all additions.

    • Player-crafted potions. The tooltip says there is no cooldown, however, there is still a 30-second cooldown just like looted potions.

A bit hard to be sure for certain, since the game is never entirely sure where you are, but it appears to be a 180 degree arc, ie 90 degrees to either side.

This one is shown when you craft, for example honing stones go from 20% to 30%, meaning you need 4 rather than five.

I've commented before on this subject. The Character and Skill pages are really bad with info. You can install addons to help with some of the issues, but the API doesn't return the information that needs to be displayed. For example Dunmer have a Resist Flame, but if you spend points on it, the character sheet never updates.
