Hierling - does it work if nothing else is skilled?!

Hi,

I use hirelings for Enchanting and Tailoring - both send me good stuff from time to time and both skillines i have maxed out. Now i invested in a hireling for woodcrafting, i have the skill on 50 but no points invested (except the 3 for the hireling) ...

i know that the base materials will be for low level but can i expect good upgrade materials? anyone got experience with this?

You get improvement materials like pitch no matter how many skill points you have put into the woodworking passives.

As you have picked up the only difference will be to the base materials you receive so you shouldn't expect to receive yew etc.

The upgrade mats will be the same as if you had all points invested. You have the same chance at Rosins as everyone else

I know you will only recive what you can use. no points you'r only getting maple iron etc.

My questions is, how about Provisioning and enchanting,
do I need to get aspect improvement to get better aspect runes sent to me?
and what affects Provisioning mats that are delivered?

From what I've seen,
For provisioning : leveling it doesn't improve the hireling drops
For enchanting: you will only receive runes that you are able to use (no Kutas or high potency runes without points in the proper skill)

Actually, Kutas are currently bugged. You can get them on a hireling of lower level *if* you spent 1 point in aspect extraction.

I have several low level alts with enchanting around level 8 with 1 point in enchanting hireling and after i put 1 point in aspect extraction, they started getting Kutas from time to time.

@SirAndy‌ : Good to know. Now I've got something else to put on the todo list. Must put a point into aspect extraction on each of my 5 hireling alts. lol!

Sure you need 1 pt in extraction for a chance to have kutas? I didn't in alts (1/3 hireling) and received a denata. I don't see how it can affect kutas only. The chances are just very small.

I just assigned points into my Enchanting Hireling this weekend. He can't use Kuta yet but his very first email had a Kuta in it. The next one had a Rekuta in it (but I think he can use those) The third email had a Ta in it. So, it's all RNG.

As for the Hirelings, I have 4 L3 Mules, each has 3 L1 Hirelings. I get trash for mats, but get Tempers and Traits and Racials everyday. I have almost enough Tempers to go Full Epic on Clothing and Armor for a complete set. I have been able to make an Epic Weapon or Shield for quite a while now. Some Purple/Gold Tempers I got from Extraction, but most come from Hirelings.

To get good mats by a Hireling, the best possible, what are the requirements for Blacksmithing, Clothing and Woodworking ?
Does one have to be level 50 ? Does one need to put points in something else than the 3 points in Hireling ?
Putting 3 points in extraction/unraveling seems a good thing to go for too to optimize and deconstruct.

And for Enchanting, do you have to be level 50 ? Aspect extraction needs to spend 3 points too ?

Since ZOS already acknowledged that this is a bug, it doesn't really have to make any sense. Bugs rarely do ...

To sum up below, you want all the passives in Crafting if you are at all serious about crafting. The trick is to know when to sacrifice getting a combat skill for a crafting skill. I would put points into Extraction and Temper Expertise before I would put a point into Hirelings, if I had a choice and only one point to use.

What increasing your Hireling does is give you more mats per email, and more importantly more Tempers, with the coinciding chance to get better tempers too. Up to twice a day. Plus, at higher hireling levels you will get at least one Temper in each email.

Only Provisioning requires a hireling to get certain mats (Tomatoes and Red Wheat), the rest of the craft lines you can get the stuff you need in other ways.

Pretty much once you are to 40 in the crafting line, you unlock all the skills. Not sure on the higher level mat skills, but if your at VR Ranks, your decon and research efforts will have you at 50 in crafting with little effort.

I got most of my Tempers from Deconstruction, but that is just a numbers game (you decon much more often than you get emails) The Hirelings are just a nice steady supply. You only get Tempers from Improved items (Green or Better). You get Racials from most anything that you decon, and you get Trait gems about 30% of the time from Decon.

With Deconstruction, you wont get much of anything if your deconstructing stuff above your ability to make. So, if you can't craft Dwarven, then when you deconstruct them, you won't get much of anything from them. Once your deconstructing stuff you can craft, then you start getting much more tempers at higher levels of Extraction.

You get the mats (from hirelings and deconstruction) that are set to the level of your crafter's ability to use (you get Dwarven Ore for instance only once you can craft with Dwarven).

Also, don't' forget the passive that lets you use less tempers to improve things. That is better quite frankly than getting more tempers, because using less goes a long way. As in just two tempers to make Green, 3 to make Blue etc.

And, don't be fooled by the % Chance of success on Improvement. If you try to improve anything that is Traited (and if your going to craft, it's going to be Traited) you need 100% Chance or it will fail. I have had 90% chance fail more times than I care to remember.

My objective is to hoard as much mats as possible for the better crafters I know who actually have all researchs done. ^^

I want to fit in Hirelings on all my characters in all crafts, basically, since I find the purple and gold drops happen often (as you said, a nice steady supply).

I just wanted to make sure I wasn't missing on any drops because of not having invested skill points in something else. So only level 32 required in blacksmithing/clothing/woodworking, from what I get.
It's only for Enchanting that you need aspect extraction (maxed ?) on top of the hireling.

I will just fit in the extraction points on some characters to specialize them in one craft and deconstruct only with them. And by deconstructing, I will reach 50 at some point, so I will eventually get much more tempers at higher levels of Extraction as you say.
But I will not need temper expertise. (phew, points saved)
