Ingame events (suggestion)

Was looking at the latest launcher entry, spotlighting the current guild, and was thinking, why not get more active?

Organise in-game events. With GMs actively participating.
Announce them in both our forums and in the launcher well in advance.

- You specify the zone and the area in it. You put a GM 'controlling' some noticeably different monster, players go after him. With a bit of luck he is imaginative as well, and adds to the event even further by taunting us/telling jokes/trolling the chat channels.
He doesn't drop proper loot. Just fluff, pets, or if you got the time, silly things you make up for the occasion. A hammer shaped skooma pipe, the descrition reading: Gina-The-Bruno's "hammer". How's that? [Gina don't ban me,lol] :)

- You do -not- specify either zone or area, but have a GM giving clues in the region channel. We are meant to find out the location for ourselves. No fighting in this one; Treasure hunt!

(i have had the pleasure of participating in events with GMs in one other MMO, i can tell you if the GM is "feeling" it, they are worth their weight in gold. Honest)

anyway, just an idea :)

Not bad.. I had something similar I proposed... but make it player controlled... and to kill at least 2 birds with one stone... work it into the justice system as something to achieve on the infamy side... basically eventually you can become a monster if you can survive being an evil SOB for long enough.

Here was my original thought below... but no one thought it was any good.

How about this idea for a highend level justice system reward for those pursuing high bounty?

So you’re a mean SOB, going around killing in towns and have managed to avoid the wrath of town guards and players.. persisting through the presumed liability that having that much of a bounty for this long entails.. once a certain ridiculously high level of bounty is finally reached you’ll be approached by an NPC of the Dark Brotherhood or something similar.. maybe a whole new group. They offer you membership but it’s a farce. You can fill in the blank here in terms of story, plot and maybe a quest chain.
But the end of it instead of being welcomed with open arms into this group you find that you have been duped by a particularly nasty group of necromancers who have just turned you into their latest flesh golem super-weapon. But you manage to avoid being completely under their control by perhaps having to successfully fight them off. If you win this fight, you are now a giant flesh golem with an appropriate skill line for it and you’ll remain a flesh golem until you are killed or log off.

Players might get extra justice system rewards for killing you and town guards could have a points advantage against you to keep the town griefing down. I think this would be a really cool end result objective for the evil side of the justice system and it would also add to the spontaneous nature of the world with an event that took many players to finish. Plus one player would have the joy of controlling the golem… or if you lost the fight against the necromancers then the golem would be AI controlled and your bounty would reset by say half.

i beg to differ, though i respect your opinion.. but for me, see, the target is fun :)
just a merry good time, minus the teleology typically attached to the word within games

no looting the shiniest of them all
no needing to PvP, or worry about being forced to (justice system)
no competing in the typical manner of 'gogogog' or 'server first'

    just..fun :)
you start tying it to anything even remotely connected to progress-related systems, it loses its appeal as it's one more "tick off" in your daily list.
and between you and me, i kinda miss me some non "e sports" plain old..fun :)

I see what you're saying too.. but why can't it be just as fun and still serve more than one purpose?

IMO... player controlled would certainly be more varied as any GM would most likely have a set repertoire of things they would be allowed to do in game. As player controlled, you would never know where they might be or what they might do next. Even getting into things you might not think of... like what if a player controlled monster would suddenly get back up from player buddies? It goes on and on...

I'm not looking for things to tick off on a check list.. but only feel that the more you have, the more viable and likely it would ever make it into the game. At the end of the day its about pleasing the most amount of people as possible while avoiding the most about of grief as possible.

    less is sometimes more :)

    - doesn't take much to retexture an existing mob. Or a loot chest.
    - doesn't take much to have a GM ingame for fun
    - doesn't need scripts, crunching
    - the reward being the fun of effing around, you know in advance the people participating are there for all the right reasons
    - GMs and Devs stop being those 'people' at the other side. You just did something with them ingame. You laughed at one another. This is huge PR, at zero cost. And precisely because they are directly involved, you cannot have anything of import coming out of it. So as not to appear controversial a feature
    - i may be wrong, but i think the majority of the populace is at a proper enough age (shhh) to comprehend the above and as such enjoy it for what it is
    - since nothing tangible is involved and no relation whatsoever exists to any game mechanic, someone may well plan it so as to coincide with some timed advertising, or the launch of a major update, a trial/free weeekend, or even during a 'dry' period.
(because tying it to anything means conditionals, means people left out. This is an event. Everyone must be able to join. Discrimination and fun? nuh uh)

again, that is just me :)

hmm, couldn't find one that i participated in, but in a similar vein..
you don't get much out of watching sadly, but consider how the game had a built in teamspeak, so we could all speak and listen to one another. Lot of laughs. And deaths :)

little things like that; we still talked about this months later. Including "baiting" the GM in the forums, lol
