The detection meter. (The eye symbol when you're sneaking.)

With the current stealth meter (the nice little eye thing that tells you you're hidden), it will open partially if you are close to being detected. The problem is, you can't tell how close you are to being seen, so I often end up going too far and being detected. I much prefer the system in Skyrim, where it would open up a certain amount depending on how close you were to being detected. I think a change would make sneaking feel a bit more responsive, but I'm open to suggestions, as always. What does the community have to say?

Yes, I would like for the current meter to be more responsive.

I use the Eye Opening as a clue to not get any closer to the Mob, or fire off a Cloak Spell. It works out pretty well for me that way.
Enjoy the game, life is what you really want to be worried about.

It seems to work fine in PvE.

In PvP stealth seems to function without rhyme or reason. I've had players pop into view only once I was right on top of them. I've had the eye open partially indicating a player was near by, but was unable to track them down using the partial open eye as a guide. And of course I've also been in what I thought was stealth only to find myself open to attack.

Yes, but only if it doesn't create lag due to continual position checks to estimate the opening of the eye.

... in practice, that means probably not. :\
Opinions are like buttholes : Everybody has one, and they usually stink.

    3 things to reduce stamina/magicka imbalance :
    - Use magicka to block abilities costing magicka, instead of stamina.
    - Add % damage reduction to heavy armor.
    - Add block penetration to 2H.

*shrug* that would only really be an issue in PvP, but since the opening of the eye would be based on your detection radius and the enemy's field of vision, it won't create server lag (since you already get the enemies' positions and the direction they're facing), and if your client lags just by updating one UI element when you're sneaking, you may want to look into getting a better computer.

I don't PvP a lot, but a lot of people do, and Cyrodiil is already prone to lags, so it could be a serious negative. I stealth a lot in PvE though, and manage fairly well with the current system ; PvP players would actually stand the most to gain by upgrading the stealth UI (think of 2 stealthed NBs trying to ambush each other), which is why the lag component is worth mentioning.

sure why not; just add it to the pile of massive fixes ZOS needs to do.

As long as other more pressing issues are addressed first, this sort of fine tuning could be nice. But really I'm fine with how it is right now.

I voted to keep it the same because I don't have any issues with it. Usually the eye partially open means someone is within line of sight of you and within range to see you (it doesn't mean they do, it's not checking their draw distance, etc..). I have been using this system completely fine and with no hassle.

However, if they implemented a Skyrim-like system, I would re-adjust to that and be fine with it as well. I just feel there are more important things to do than make people's awareness more streamlined.

FYI, the reason why you may not find whoever it is may see you, is they may be in stealth too and you didn't get close enough to see them. Their eye may have been opening up too and maybe it was a NB who then began to spam cloak while searching for you. The possibilities are plentiful....

Of course it tells you how close you are to being detected, you more open the eye the closer you are.

It can't tell you where the line of sight is, and shouldn't. There should be some mystery, in real life you can't see them until they can see you (Well arms and legs can stick out, but you know what I mean).

I don't want any more, if you get more indications, then you get someone demanding stealth gets harder. Then stealth gets hard core, and the funs goes out.

Leave it alone, don't fix what isn't broken.

If you're detected in PvP, you know you're detected by the eye but can't see who has detected you. Logic fail.

If you're detected, but can't see them you put up block. This really makes no sense.

I was wondering why so many people were rolling when I used a detection potion. They know they've been detected, but can't see who has detected them.

This happens to me when someone jumps out and gives me a fright, I didn't know they were there but as I was sneaking as well I did.

I thought it was just fine. in this game, I always felt that there was a general understanding of just how close you could get to an enemy/enemies without being detected, or how many inches closer to them you would have to go in order to make the eye open even partially.

add some indicator of your active detection/reduced detection range perhaps in the crosshairs. might even be possible with an add on. (i dont know, i dont make add ons)
