Not left handed myself but I love the ability to have diverse characters so why not!

Variety of game play is always good in my book. I'm right handed so I probably wouldn't use it but can see how a left handed person interested in immersion would be. Would they do something like this? I don't know. What kind of cost would be associated to creating such a feature for 5% of the population. Does it justify the expense? Couldn't say, but you know they have to consider viability..just sayin. Love the idea though.

Well I wouldn't use it but I think it would interesting to see how melee combat would turn out between left and right handed combatants.

Another IRL southpaw. Lefty characters would be a great feature, but I fear it might be way to much work to implement for a relatively small group of players.

just pretend that last option says "I like the idea and do not want it added."

You forgot the ambidextrous people. With the DW bonuses I think the Dunmer should be Ambi.

Of course real world studies show that being ambidextrous is a disadvantage -- just like they show that magic doesnt really work -- so I vote to keep that out of my game world. :)

Pfft. Lefties can't be heroes. No sense arguing, its science.

I thought lefties had a greater affinity for the deadric lords? They are the devils children, no?

Just in case some sad person thought the above is serious, it is satire and sarcasm directed at the sad people who really do believe being left handed (or any other genetic variation of people) really does associate them with the Light Bringer.

Left handedness is a sign of Daedric influence and you shall all be burned at the stake and eaten by Bosmer.
This is pretty much a reflection of the historical views on left-handedness (the word "sinister" comes from the latin word for left-handed, because those who were left-handed were considered to be touched by the devil), and I wouldn't be overly surprised if similar views are held in Tamriel. In medieval times those who showed signs of being left-handed while growing up were forced to become right-handed (which doesn't really work that well).

The 60's and 70's in the bay area are medieval times?

Well, Americans have always been a little behind the times :D

Seriously, though, the encouragement to be right-handed was a wee bit more extreme in medieval Europe. Continuing to show a preference for your left hand could potentially result in being burned as a witch... Although that was likely pretty darn rare, and would probably only happen if the unfortunate southpaw happened to be significantly disliked by his/her community anyway (which, when you get down to it, was really the root cause of most accusations of witchcraft).

Considering BethSoft's poor track record at considering left-handed players, I'm not hopeful. Right up through Skyrim, even if you set your PC to swap mouse buttons, the ES games have not acknowledged that setting. It makes mousing with your left hand awkward.

I'm glad to see that ESO does acknowledge the "swap mouse buttons" setting, but disappointed that it doesn't extend to, say, turning pages in lore books.

Minor quibble: It's actually 10% of the general population, and generally higher among nerds.

Since there were actual witch burnings in Europe as late as 1895 (You've heard of Bridgett Cleary, I imagine), I'd avoid trotting out the old "Americans are _____" canard, @UrQuan.

Barbarity is found in every time, and every place, and, sadly, every nation. It's very much with us. Some modern nations still execute people convicted of witchcraft. It's not actually funny, really. Not to mention off topic.

You do realize that I would have made the exact same joke about any other country had he mentioned a location in a different country, right? Even if it were my own country? And you saw the smiley to indicate that it wasn't serious in any way right? Sheesh, lighten up buddy.

    For clarity:
    a) Nobody was joking about witch burning (hint: the joke was that it took the USA, specifically the Bay area, until the 60s to make it to the middle ages), so whether or not it's funny is irrelevant to this thread.
    b) The fact that some left-handed people were burned as witches, with their left-handedness being used as evidence of witchcraft is entirely on-topic, as it is an example from our own history of how southpaws have been treated, and we are speculating that there could be parallels with the way they are treated in Tamriel.

But apparently you were bound and determined to find a way to be offended by an incredibly innocuous joke.

Sometimes the things you say actually are funny. Just not this time. Time to let it go, buddy. Time to stop thinking that people have to be "determined to be offended" for simply expressing an opinion you don't share. It is what it is.
