Please help me respec my DPS sorcerer build

DarthLeader
Hi guys, could you please give me your tips and opinions on my DPS sorcerer build? :)

I plan to respec some of my skills and I want to do it right in one try, not trial and error, since it's expensive to respec.

I have taken the time to input all my skills into a skill planner and to specify this character's goals.

My goals for this high elf DPS sorcerer build are to:
Do high DPS
Do general PvE
Do Trials
Do raids
Find alchemy ingredients
Do alchemy and food for this character and my other characters when I have more
Not do PvP, since I’ll create another character just for that (probably a nightblade)

I’m currently VR1, here is my actual build for which some respect is needed:
http://esohead.com/calculator/skills#mMkXeek9Mvf0mia8NUVF8NNgb8AIQ18hM1c8A4hI8NUod85MAIOp8Niak8A4hI8NUod8L7XcdoQr6MdoQF6MdoQC6MdoQK6MdoQJ8e7XIaqT6zaqq6LaqS6Mi4bD6Mi4bU6Mi4b16Mi4bX6Mi4b48H7QrbHm6IzwM6Nzf26MNieT6MNieA6MNieh6zNiey8J7XIziB6LziY6LziD6rziZ6MNUIc6MNUIz6MNUIN6MNUIi8K7SLkg6bzuj6MzuI6Mzuu6MANRQ6MANRU6MANRW6MANRZ8O7RrdeF6zAZqS6zA3FL8P7sddYh6zLp4d6cLncn6MLncp6zLncy847XzxLCe6cxLDm6cxLDo6cxLDs8zf7VzNbo6MDVRE8zu7XoHfYE6cHfZd6cHfYS6cHfZ06cHfZm6cHfZR6cHfZN8zG7XzHQ3F6cHSDz6cHQ4a6cHQ4h6zHQ318zI7zzJIoX6zJIkL8zN7zzJZcY8zA7zzKpUN8zL7zzK4EX

1) Could you please refer me to a few good builds for DPS Sorcerer?
So far I’ve only seen the following and I do not know if they are good or not to reach my goals, but they seem good:
http://tamrielfoundry.com/topic/1-3-endgame-dps-build-crushing-shock-crimsons-variation/

http://tamrielfoundry.com/topic/mages-guild-sorcerer-high-single-target-dps-aoe-backup/

2) Main skill bar
The builds I’ve seen seem to focus on doing damage with the destruction staff itself, with very nice synergy like Power Surge + Flawless Dawnbreaker, so I assume that they use their destruction staff light or heavy attacks a lot? I almost only use spells, which is probably wrong.

Crushing shock seems to be a must, many build have it, while I haven’t tried it much,

Elemental drain seems to be very important, both builds I’ve seen recommend that someone in the group should have it on one of my 2 skill bars, so I guess I should have it and max it (the guy who made one of those builds even said it’s more important that Crystal Fragments).

Spell Symetry seems to be an absolute must on both bars on a few builds, so I guess I’ll try that as well? Apparently it is very useful in any fight longer than 30 seconds, in order to maintain the magicka pool and triggering Mage Guild’s Might of the Guild?

Inner light: I love this and people always put it, so I guess I’ll keep it.

Ultimate: it seems like everybody went for Flawless dawnbreaker (fighters guild): that seems very powerful maybe that should be my ultimate 1 ? (Deals 36 Magic Damage to enemies in front of player, with 60% additional damage to undead and Daedric enemies. Weapon attacks deal 13% additional damage when slotted.). Then, it would make sense to max out all the Fighter’s guild passives (the 2 builds I looked did that). It would be great to use my stamina to do DPS as well, not just my magicka.

3) Secondary bar
You’ll notice that I really don’t know what to do with my secondary skill bar. I’ve never leveled up restoration staff but I saw a lot of DPS sorcerers doing that. How is this useful for a DPS sorcerer?

I saw that a lot of people have “Healing Springs” restoration skill in their secondary bar so I guess I should level up restoration staff then? People comment that this is used to farm up ultimate before boss fight: cool!

Crystal shard: I believe that this is a good skill: I use Crystal Blast (AoE effect) but some other people use Crystal fragment (35% chance to instant cast on next spell and 50% magicka cost rebate on next spell). Which morph is better? I think that having 1 active dark magic skill on secondary bar could be useful because of the effect of dark magic passives

Endless Fury: I feel like I may have chosen the wrong morph: maybe Mage’s Wrath would be better, by provide more explosive damage instead of giving back magicka when this spell kills a monster? The 2 other top builds I’ve seen on Tamriel Foundry have Mage’s Wrath

Spell Symetry seems to be an absolute must on both bars on a few builds, so I guess I’ll try that as well? Apparently it is very useful in any fight longer than 30 seconds, in order to maintain the magicka pool

Inner light: I love this and people always put it, so I guess I’ll keep it.
Ultimate: I chose Charged Atronach, but everybody else seem to have taken Great Atronach: should I change that?

4) Other backup skills
Does Daedric Summoning Passive “Rebate” (15% max magicka when a summon is killed) also applies to Great atronach ?

By looking in dept in the published builds, I have seen that even if people use Flawless dawnbreaker + Great Atronach, they have also maxed Supression Field (Dark Magic ultimate to dispel enemy effects): should I level that up too?

Since everybody seem to have Inner light + spell symmetry on both bars, the skill tree they show also have maxed out all passives on mages guild tree: makes sense, I should do it too.

Is there any other skills that aren’t in the may “2 skill bar setup” but should be invested in, as a backup for certain situations?

Will I be able to sustain my 2 max crafting specialties while having enough skills for the new build? Alchemy and provisioning, as seen in my build link.

Fighters guild: Expert Hunter: a few people seem to have this: since I don’t stealth much as a mage, I guess Evil Hunter would be the best (I’ve seen some mages with that).

I have maxed out all the destruction staff passives. I hope this was good?

Maxing all restoration staff passives will probably be needed as well?

Maybe I should keep my pulsar for general solo PvE (I find it good for anything else than bosses which are immune to the -12% health) ?

Velocius curse: to me this seemed good, but the top builds I see never have it. Maybe I should respect this to invest in other skills?

World Magic: I’ve seen 2 builds where people max out the 3 passives: are they that powerful?

Bolt escape: is it useful to have this? If so, which morph should be there ? Nobody seems to have it on their “main 2 skill bar setups”, but in certain situations maybe it could be useful?

5) Respec tips ?
This is my first time to respec. Any tips?

I think that I will remove all my “summons” skills like volatile familiar and Winged Twilight be because I will need a lot of skills to invest in the restoration staff.

I’ll also remove silver shards from the fighters guild since I don’t use that spell and I will need my stamina for Flawless Dawnbreaker ultimate

Will I be very tight on skills with a good build + 2 crafting tree? If so I’ll respect more skills that I don’t often use.

6) Stats distribution
What should be my Magicka / Health / Stamina investment? Lots of people seem to have just gone straight for 49 health, but is that really optimal? I guess that what they do afterwards is to put +magicka glyph everywhere on their equipment??
My current setup: 34 magicka / 15 health and I put spell power glyph on my equipment. My food = +health and magicka VR1.

7) Vampire ?
I’m not a vampire, I’m mostly a good guy. Is being a vampire very powerful? I’ll probably try it on a stealth nightblade PvP build.

8) The boon
I use the Thief sign to increase critical chance, but with inner light I got a total of 61% critical chance (in part because I found an bad staff that has +6% spell critical: I still use it because I don’t use my destruction staff light attack or heavy attack much: I should probably change this staff).

I heard that when you have a high critical, The Shadow (+critical hit damage) would be better, but what’s the breakpoint?

Is The apprentice better for DPS?

I’ve seen people with “The Mage” is it better for DPS? I guess this may be needed if I respect to 49 health and zero everything else?

9) The rotation?
Could you please tell me advice on how to do my rotations?
I’ve heard people doing things like
Quick light attack, don’t let the animation complete
One spell
Quick light attack, don’t let the animation complete
Another spell

2) I’ve also seen this:
Light attack clip into Crushing Shock repeat… then swap to second action near 20% and light attack clip into Mages Wrath until dead.

OR

Light attack clip into Crushing Shock and use Crystal Fragments proc whenever available repeat… then swap to second action bar near 20% and light attack clip into Mages Wrath until dead.

I go 39 Magicka 10 Health (0 Stam). Pushing out over 2.5k magicka and 1900+ spell resist.

Slot one (your mages guild ability) use the other morph, sorry cant remember name but it gives a great boost to any attack after using it.
'Crystal Blast', 'Pulsar' and 'Inner light' are fine. (@Zenimax GET RID OF THE DAMN ORB)
'Endless fury' I don't use, I have 'Destructive Clench' instead as it give a decent defence and a stun

    Two points...

•Don't just go for a cookie-cutter build, use a build you are comfortable with and enjoy using.

•Once Spellcrafting finally gets here hopefully there won't be a 'best' build and we'll see a lot more variations of good builds

    1. (Destro) Inner Light, Critical Surge, Dampen Magicka, Crushing Shock, Impulse. U: Suppression Field.

    2. (Resto) Inner Light, Crystal Fragments, Endless Fury, Velicious Curse, Blessing of Restoration, Healing Springs. U: Barrier.

    The Rotation:
    1. Critical Surge, Dampen Magicka.
    2. Single Target? Bar 2. Velicious Curse, Fury 3x, Heavy Attack, repeat until dead.
    3. Multi Targets? Bar 1. Crushing Shock, Light Attack, Impulse, Light Attack, Repeat.
    4. Below 20%? If yes, Bar 2 and light attack/fury/block/light attack/fury/block tapping the buttons at a fast pace. Tapping, not mashing. You want a good timed flow and if you press your buttons wrongly, you will just stand still doing nothing. You need proper timing.

I like to live on Bar1 when possible because I can renew Surge/Dampen. Bar 2 whenever Mana is in the danger zone. I only cast Fragments when it Procs, and I can proc it with every skill on the bar.

    Notes:

Spell Symmetry: sucks for a Sorc, you can't afford to pay HP. The mages guild bonus isn't worth it. Note that if I care about bonus, I swap in Volcanic Rune in place of Fragments/Suppression Field.

Rune Cage: is good for 2 person capture of a Resource. You can nail the mage on the tower and you have about 23 seconds to cap flag. Its useless in PVP otherwise because everything is immune to CC from having broken Talons, etc. Likewise if they break your cage they aren't stunned and become immune to CC.

Elemental Blockade: is good and can swap out Dampen Magicka for it. If you stand on a ledge facing ground under it, you can blockade the ground. This is useful in "The Breach" in PVP. It can also reveal stealthers trying to pop up oil.

Crystal Fragments/Heals: are easy to disrupt with Crushing Shock. It takes timing and practice but i love making an Impulse Vamp go to one knee. I love making healers go to one knee. Crystal Fragments? One Knee.

Summons: Don't use them. Especially in PVP. They are cute to Solo with even in vet zones, and are formidable when supported with Blessing of Restoration and Hardened Ward.

Bound Armor/Morphs: 1000 Armor makes a difference of what, 80-120 damage at most? Better things to waste your spots on. Hardened Ward is better, even for PVP. Sometimes in PVP, I roll Hardened Ward even without summons!

Stamina Abilities are good to give your main bar a rest. Your best ones are Block and Roll Dodge. Silver Shards is okay-ish. Good PvPers stand in swarms so your chances of hitting a vamp are minimal. I also like using Rapid Maneuver and Dark Conversion once in a while.

Bolt Escape Half the time this ability doesn't work, it leaves you standing in place with less mana. Terrain does funny things like that now and then. I find myself fighting better when using Endless Fury and running away better with Hardened Ward/Boundless Storm combo.

    Error corrected !

I have just discovered that Power Surge does boost damage of Pulsar, so I assume that all Destruction Staff spells are affected. That is so great !

@Soloeus: Nice build and comments. It seems like I was the only one who went for Crystal Blast: respec that to Crystal Fragment will be one of the things I'll do. I guess I will also have to work on my rotations.

"Dampen Magic I": that's quite a unique choice for ultimate !

Im just using this for PVE.

49 points Magicka and 7 parts light armour.

    1: Elemental Ring
    2: Unstable Wall of Elements
    3: Inner Light (Toggled on)
    4: Bound Aegis (Toggled on)
    5: Critical Surge
    U: Devouring Swarm

Just pop (5:) then drop (2:) and run in spam (1:). Not the gretest damage but it alows me to pull mobs of 10+ guys and stay at +80% Health.

    Single target

    1: Crystal Fragments
    2: Crushing Shock
    3: Endless Fury
4: Shattering Prison (Dont really need it but can come in handy)
    5: Boundless Storm
    U: Overload

I'm well aware that these are not the best builds but ive been running this Destro/ Destro staff build and have never has a problem yet. I dont do PvP so I have no idea if this is good for that or not(I wouldnt think so).

A small tip, weapons are not what sorcs kill with. They are for when you have managed to run out of smack, something you should try to avoid.

My Vampire Witch has pretty good weapon damage, nothing special for her level, VR3, but has spell damage softcapped or very close to and pretty good spell critical as well.
