why is my fan going mental?

DuelWieldingCheesyPoofs
I usually always have 3 browser windows open for the internet, maybe one graphic design program and eso in the background, all at once.

sometimes the fan starts going really loud, now i dnt have the best pc but its icore 5 AMD 7850 i think 3hz and 6g about almost a year old.

i get confused between cpu and gpu, is this game using my cpu? Is this why the fan goes off so fast?

i have not overclocked

This game is much more CPU intensive than GPU.

Having said that, this is not a tech forum.

    One of what people?

Maybe try not doing 5 things at once and your computer might just not get overheated...

Are you trying to play ESO, bid on Ebay, and draw pretty pictures all at the same time?

And if you don't know the difference between a CPU and a GPU, thank God you haven't tried to overclock it. You'd be buying a new one in about 5 minutes....

Games use both CPU and GPU, MMO's are CPU Incentive moreso than GPU's.
Fans should never "Shut off" They should always be running.
However if your GPU or CPU is running hot it will increase the fan speed, making it louder.

Graphics Design program? Likely your cause.

Everything you ever do on a computer uses your CPU. GPU's specialize in graphics processing, and are really only used in graphics/video editing or playing.

There are several different reasons why your CPU and/or GPU fan could be maxed out.

Are you trying to do multiple compute intensive things at once?

Is the computer hot? What is the temperature in the room the computer is being used in?

Does the computer have proper airflow? Is the inside of the case cramped? Does the inside of the case look like a dirty vacuum cleaner bag?

    FYI to anyone reading.
Browsers are not intensive by any means.
Firefox, for me, uses about a maximum of 300mb of ram and generally always less than 6% cpu usage.

As far as im concerned from the beginning post, he was only Double-tasking, as browsers don't really count, unless your above the 50 open tab mark.

Its likely your GPU is simply running its fan faster to keep the GPU cooled while playing. You should see if you can find a monitoring program for your GPU to make sure its not overheating. Pretty much all brands of gpus make their own software for this.
If you don't know your GPU's brand, download CPU-Z, use it, go to Graphics/GPU tab and the manufacturers name should be in there.

For example, I have a Gigabyte GPU and I use O.C Guru, when I had a EVGA card, I used EVGA Precision.

You can use Process Explorer to pinpoint which areas of the active processes uses the most resources.

    ^^^^

Also check your bearings in the fans depending on how old they are they could be getting loud because they are going out.

If you haven't cleaned it recently to get out the dust, you should probably do so (with one of those air spraycans). Other than that it's probably ok if it's only a year old.

This should be your first port if call. If you know how to take your case off and safely clean you fan this might solve your issue. Dust and pet hair (if you have pets) can accumulate inside of your case. Also make sure your PC is in a well ventilated area anyway. If you have it pushed up against a wall under a desk with things piled on top or next to it it will make things worse.

If you haven't altered your pc in anyway the fans you have should be sufficient for your build. If you have changed things about you may need to review your fan situation.

PC fans are auto variable and will increase in speed due to heat.

Things you can do to reduce heat while the computer is unpugged and rested for at least 5minutes
    * Blow the dust out from the heat sink coils.
    * If your computer is old then remove the fan and heat sink coils from the processor. With an alcohol swab clean off the old heat sink compound from the processor. Replace the heat sink compound with fresh heat sink compound. (it's not paint so look online to see what heatsink compound pattern to use for your processor. Your PC may also have come with instructions or they may be available from your manufacturer website)

If your fan is randomly running high despite not having any complex tasks to perform then check for busted caps on your motherboard. After the PC has been unplugged for 5minutes open the case and look for things that look like soda cans. If the top of the can is bowed up like a dome or has a black goey substance on the top, or your motherboard smells like fish (not a joke) then your motherboard is going. There is actually a complete series of HP computers whose first sign of mobo failure is the fan.
