View Guild Description Before Joining?

Forgive me if this is a stupid question, I may have missed something, but as far as I can tell when someone sends you a guild invite there is no way to see any further information about it (such as their 'about us' statement) until you have actually joined, unless someone posts what their particular guild is about in a chat. Obviously you can ask the person who invited you... unless they log off before you get a chance to check your notifications. Likewise it's not a big deal to just join and read what it says and if you don't like it leave, unless you already have 5 guilds, at which point a new one could be more worthwhile than one of your others, but how can you know with nothing to go on but the guild name?

It just seems like there ought to be some way to view what a guild is about by clicking on the name in your notifications, or something like that, before you actually join. It would also make it easier for someone doing the inviting if the invitees didn't need to whisper them for more information and could just look at it for themselves.

I don't think many people actually seriously consider drive-by guild invites that are unsolicited without even so much as a whisper... :).
-First-Wave Closed Beta Tester of the Psijic Order, aka the 0.016 percent.
Exploits suck. Don't blame just the game, blame the players abusing them!

-Playing since July 2013, back when we had a killspam channel in Cyrodiil and the lands of Tamriel were roamed by dinosaurs.

-In-game mains abound with "Nerf" in their name. As I am asked occasionally, I do not play on anything but the PC NA Megaserver at this time.

Sure they do. I've considered them--might have even taken one (I think, based on the description, it was clearly a commerce oriented guild).

Furthering the OP's point--Guild Kiosks, which show the guild name--have NO info about the guild available.

It would certainly be nice to be able to, based on guild name, get to the info screen about a given guild--you could find out if they are recruiting, what their core focus is (commerce, pvp, crafting, etc.), guild store policies, number of members, general ages, family-friendly, geographic location, contact information, etc. etc. etc. And then, based on the number of typos in the description, you could decided if they're worth joining. :)

Easy enough to quit if you mistakenly join one, but it would be nice to look into them beforehand and compare.

I don't even respond to those unless someone actually follows up with a whisper.

Back to the OP point, i do agree that currently the guild system is lacking in a few areas and a guild info preview is one of them.
If i get an invite for a guild, i should be able to click on the guild name and get some basic info about that guild.

Forgive my ignorance if I'm wrong, but don't guild invites also show up in your Notifications window? I seem to recall the guild name being clickable there, but I could be thinking of a different game.

Every time I see a guild advertisement that I'm interested in joining, the first thing I do is whisper: "What are the qualifications for being a member?" and only later do I actually bother to look into what the guild is actually about.

I've ended up joining social guilds thinking they were PvP guilds and vice versa, and I'm one of those people who ends up feeling emotionally obligated to serve when I join a guild, so me (eventually) leaving was....awkward for me...even though no one actually noticed half of the time.

That being said, it would be nice if I actually look up basic guild information, like their 'About Us' segment. Is it too much to ask for a bulletin board or something? Or at least an option in the UI?

Would certainly be better than joining and leaving five minuets later. I mean, I'm not adverse to asking but sometimes I forget...
