Setting up a controller

Because there are so little skills to use at any given time, I wanted to give a controller a shot for this game. I think, for a reticuled action type set up, it could work really well.

So I installed the controller, but then I realized, there was no way to get the game to recognize it. Can anyone help me figure out how to set this up? Every internet search takes me back to the same old guy on youtube setting up an XBox controller, and mine is a generic one and not sure it would use the same software.

This is a good program, but it's $10.00 if you acquire it legally.

Yep download xpadder, install the controller on the pc, simples.

the xbox controller will work with pc they are the same thing.

if you wana be super cool, you can use xpadder, xbox wireless controller, splash top to tv.

i play eso on my huge tv upstairs in bed with xbox controller via my laptop, splashtop,tv.

was a bit of a faff to set up but its super cool for chilling, i did vet dungeons fine and questing.

not done trials this way or healing tho, might be hard.

I managed to get my PS 4 controller to work with xpadder, it works fine, the only thing is that the sensitivity is low to my liking but I can manage.

One good tip that it took me some time to figure out: if you launch the game in administrator mode you have to launch xpadder or whatever program you use in administrator mode as well.

with this game coming out on consoles, it'd be kinda silly not to offer controller support. at least for combat.

Hopefully we get it when if they release the console version. I'm not holding my breath.

Thanks for the replies. I downloaded Xpadder. In one of the youtube tutorials I came across, someone said that DS3 is a newer, more user friendly program. It wasn't until after I bought xpadder that I saw that, so I am not sure if it's good or not.

Regardless, I finally get this set up, and the game is down for maintenance, so I can't test it. There is only one issue that I had, and it's that I used a generic controller and I am one button short. I am going to attempt to just use the direction pad in place of E or something simple like that.

If you're looking for a great free controller program, try Joy to Key. It's worked flawlessly for me to set up my xbox 360 controller.

If you're a button short, try adding a "shift" key to your controller setup which pretty much doubles your amount of buttons.

    Can you explain this more?

So I just realized I don't have the sprint button programed. Not sure where to put that. I also don't have my potions.

This is turning out to be more difficult than I expects.

I think red(Oh hiya guildie :-) I'll catch ya in game :-) ) Anyway, I think redspectre is saying that you can assign one of your buttons as a shift and it will up all other buttons to caps allowing them new bindings as they will be different characters to the program.

You'll be able to map everything to your controller, but I prefer not to. It's easier to stick with the basics for the game pad, and use the keyboard for all the rest. You can set one of your buttons to toggle a second layout for more button configs. I've seen some people using three layer layouts. You can look up and download layouts by the way.

I used Xpadder and a slightly modified version of Darcula's profile:
