"Soon" "In a While" and "Later" - Oh Come on Really ! ! !

These phrases caught my eye the other day while reading the 'Road Ahead' announcement by @ZOS_MattFiror‌

Basically... The gist was when describing a time frame for new/upcoming content he managed to come up with the following...

“Expect to see soon”: new facial animation system, improved grouping, fixes to player separation issues

“Expect to see in a while”: Imperial City, Champion System

“Expect to see later”: Justice System, Spellcrafting

Sorry I can’t be more explicit

“Expect to see soon”, “Expect to see in a while”, “Expect to see later”
Explicit...REALLY? exactly which part was explicit...lol

Come on Matt, you could have said something like within the next quarter, within the next six month, within the year. Damn all you would have needed to do was add "but these may be subject to change" and your asses would have been covered.
A little transparency would have been great, certainly better than vague !

Keep up the good work Matt, certainly made me smile....lol

(PS.. did like the rest of "The Road Ahead" announcement though)

"I can't be more explicit" as in I can't be clearer, he wasn't saying he was being explicit....

and I'd rather them give an order like they did of what they're planning, than give us targets they don't know if they'll be close to in a specific number of months.

Yes I'm aware of the tense in which Matt was conveying. But it couldn't have been further from explicit if he'd tried...lol

He could always not release the Road Ahead articles. Would decrease forum whining by a factor of 5.

    Entitlement much?

You ask for transparency, and they give it by providing us what information they currently have regarding the projects that are in the works. Instead of being happy that they ARE in fact being transparent, you are acting like you are entitled to know every little detail.

First of all, they probably have general target dates, but are not going to tell the users, because if they miss the target, people like you will be on the forums complaining that whatever they said was coming isn't out yet.

They are damned if they do, and damned if they don't.

Users complain if the company doesn't give them information about what is happening.

Users complain if they are not given details bout what the company is working on.

Users complain if they are not given details about what is coming up.

User complain when the company DOES give them details regarding what is being worked on (See the known issues threads).

Users complain when they do not think the issues are being fixed fast enough, or in the manner which they want them fixed.

The company gives information about known issues. The Forum mods respond to new issues and escalate those to the Dev Teams. There are 2 different Dev Trackers on the forums.

There is the PTS and the PTS forums.

The company gives a glimpse of the Road Ahead so that the users know what the company is working on for the future, they probably do not yet have more details other than what the projects are. Hell, it may only be in the discussion phase and not yet into the coding phase, but the company is keeping users in the loop.

Yet ungrateful little twerps who seem to think that the company revolves around them and their $15 dollars a month constantly show up on the forums throwing temper tantrums about how the company isn't releasing enough information, or communicating enough, or working hard enough, or fast enough, or not working on their specific issue.

If you think you can do a better job, go submit your resume to the company.

He wasn't saying he was being explicit. He was saying he can't say any more than what he said because they don't have dates yet.

Meanwhile you can continue subbed and paying for news. They dont say a word because if they say this or that content wont be here in 6 months a lot of people would unsub.

Or because setting deadlines for updates months (or even weeks) in advance is a terrible idea for any developer.

You can say an approximate without saying an specific date. Like for example when Firor said that housing wont be here until 2015. Then you know it will be here fall 2015 or 2016.

    Want to bet.

I could be less clear, like I could say they may be happening eventually.

By saying soon he means it should be happening in a short space of time. In a while means a bit later, ie not soon but within a reasonable period (maybe 6 months, give or take). Later implies not this year. And they give you an order, soon first, then in a while, finally later.

I'm going to mention another game here. Mechwarrior Online made an announcement in late 2012 that the long awaited community warfare would be out in early 2013. Well it is now mid 2014 and no community warfare. By giving even a unclear date they set them selves up for a lot of hate and flaming posts that did nothing but cause disruption and discontent. It didn't matter that some major bugs had cropped up that needed to be fixed immediately or that there were several teams working on different parts of the game the players freaked out. I saw posts threating lawsuits and all manner of wackiness. Mind you this is a free to play game. I think the Developers are doing a much better job of keeping us informed and keeping to their own schedule. But remember there can be any number of unanticipated problems that crop up that would require manpower to be moved from important but unreleased projects to fix the stuff that has already been released.

Expect to see soon: 5th update(October)

Expect to see in awhile: 6th update(November)

Expect to see later: 7th update(December)

Nothing to guess here. They follow a strict pattern that Jyggalag would applaud. I guess there could be some room for slight changes in scheduling depending on external forces and complications. Otherwise, it's all laid out for you.

Balancing Stamina builds - "Eventually, but don't hold your breath."

But the only real way to balance them is to have class skill damage scale off your highest stat, since even faithful stamina builds still use class abilities, as there is not enough "fluff" that uses stamina for a given weapon to constitute a viable and entertaining build. You will always have a situation where pure magicka will outperform magicka/stamina hybrids so long as the former gets to scale ALL abilities on ONE stat and the later must split stats for weapon/class ability damage, lowering all damage overall.

    "Get used to disappointment."
