How is AP calculated?

Specifically in combat. I have some observations that may be wildly inaccurate, so any real information would be appreciated.

I find that if I use heals, it appears to give me AP immediately but lock out gains for a few seconds. It appears to vary based on the heal value. So if I use a light heal, I get very little AP and get locked out of it for a brief period of time. If I use a large burst heal, I seem to get more AP. This seems like a pretty awful system, considering my lighter heals end up healing for a lot over time, but I lose out because the initial tick is low. It also seems like being a DPS earns me a lot more AP than being a healer because killing players is so much more rewarding. I try to do a little of both to make sure I'm maximizing my AP gains.

Uhhhh yes, I'm aware of this. That's not exactly what I was asking. I'm more interested in the mechanics of healing AP. And I don't mean "you heal something.... AP," but rather specific details.

I'm gonna keep an eye on this one 'cause I'd really like to know but I don't think they'll tell you. Giving their formula opens the door to so much criticizm.
I don't comment here often but when I do, I get [snip]

From the best I can figure out for kills it is a combination of the Rank of the opponent killed and your contribution to that kill. If you are in a group it is split by the group member in range to get ap. If you are solo and the kill would have gave 800 ap and someone else joins in the fight and you do 50% of the damage you are awarded 400 ap. Healing is considered a contribution but usually only nets a small percentage of the total ap. I would guess that you throw a heal on someone you become part of the contribution for whoever they kill for a certain amount of time. That ap though is going to be split a lot of ways.

Say you throw a heal on guy A, he is in a group of 24 people, he kills someone that would have granted 800 ap. That 800 is split between you, everyone in his group and anyone else that threw a heal on him. So once that 800 ap is split between 50 people you get 16 ap. I think part of the reason healing ap is so low is that you have 20 people at a siege spamming rapid regen all the sudden the ap is spread paper thing. You get it from a lot of sources but there isn't much to go around once it is divided by all those people.

Solo you can see it much easier. On a solo kill vs a high rank player I can get up to 800 ap, vs a low rank player I can get as low as 100. It seems like as a duo the ap is split directly in half even if the other group member didn't attack the person but is in range.

Thank you. On the killing side of things, that would seem to fit my observations for the most part. I just think healing must be a bit different because it is usually an instant AP yield upon healing.

I have not evidence to back this up but I wonder if once you heal someone you become "part of their group" for the duration of the heal timer. So you heal guy A who is in a 24 man group and you get your chunk of the AP one of his group mates just earned.

I do know your group size does matter. If your in the zerg, you get less AP overall, its split. If your killing in a smaller group the rewards may be larger, but not as frequent of a gain with the smaller group.

Sorry to necrosis this thread but I was trying to search for a similar question and was wondering if anyone could help answer.

I was observing that AP granted for a kill is based on time since a player's death and performance in PvP. I'm not sure what that performance is based on though - player kills, keep/resource captures, etc.

I have found that a player kill gives me similar AP no matter the number of people attacking.

Anyone have an insight on this?

In short, if you heal someone who does a lot of killing and damage to an enemy player who dies, you get ap. If you heal someone who just dies anyway or does little damage to the enemy killed, you don't get much or any ap.
