First of all let me start by saying I would not even be entertaining this idea if Zenimax had not wowed me with their list of planned updates as well as some of the things that have been implemented already. For example, I never thought I'd see stealing introduced into Elder Scrolls Online. I figured that'd break their provisioning mechanic and it was just one of those things that are only done in single player games. I'm happy to be proven wrong on this point.
Next with the way trading works in the core game it opens up a host of possibilities for the players of ESO. We've seen it expanded with the additions of trade vendors that can be bid on every week. It gives players a reason to visit old zones again etc.
This leads me to what I want to talk about, player housing, specifically guild housing. I've no doubt this is in the plans at some point for both individual characters and guilds but because of the way trade works in ESO, it opens up for the first time in my opinion, a reason to visit guild housing of other guilds. For the most part in every MMO, housing is usually empty because there is no reason to visit them after you're done decorating. There needs to be a reason to visit and stay.
Things I'd like to see in guild housing.
What I'd like to see is another trade vendor owned by your guild inside the guild house that is customizable. In addition to that I'd like to see 1 or maybe even 4 more vendors there that can be linked to other guilds and controlled by your guild rules, if the other guilds are in mutual agreement of course. Lets say you're a major trade guild and you have contacts with other trade guilds, you can offer them a vendor spot in your guild house and vice versa. Your guild members and visitors can then browse all of them in your guild housing. You could potentially place some of the best trade guilds in the game in this one area. It now makes it very worthwhile and lucrative to come stay awhile.
Now maybe on top of this you can set your own tax on their vendors. I don't mean charging more tax to the seller of the item but taking a cut out of the guild's original house cut. Every guild gets a 10% house cut normally but because the item sold from your guild house, lets say the guild house gets a 2% cut of the 10% total tax that you choose to set. So our house gets a 2% commission on their sale and they receive the leftover 8%. On top of these regulations that the guild leader can set, maybe he can chose to make it so you have to bid on the vendors just like the gold coast vendors. If someone wants a second vendor in a high ranking guild house, they have to put a bid on the vendor and then the bid goes to the owning house. Or he can assign to a guild of his choosing that's in mutual agreement. Alliances could be formed with trade guilds and they could agree to share vendors with each other. Several vendors may prove a bit of a balance problem but I could certainly see 1-2 in addition to your own guild vendor working out great. These features could all be unlocked with a money sink providing a real reason to upgrade your guild house.
Offer a bank too, maybe an upgrade that is not linked with a guild store. After all your guild has nothing to do with a visitors guild store.
I would think that someone has already thought of this and its been tossed around in brainstorm sessions. At least I hope so and that I am just reinforcing the idea that players would love this!
Let us hire guards to protect our guild housing even if there is no real threat
I think a lot of us want meaningful strongholds or guild houses. I won't hold my breath for this feature but another really wonderful thing would be the option to flag your housing for PvP. To be able to open up yourself to defend against and attack others who have voluntarily flagged their housing for PvP. It'd be great to war with other trade factions or rival guilds. At most it'd be an inconvenience or embarrassing if your house got overrun. There should be a guild alert when this happens. And if another guild is camping in your guild housing and you can't remove them, unflag your house for PvP. Maybe after 30 mins or so it'll reset your house status and kick them out.
Let us pick and possibly customize any npcs that we can bring into our housing.
There are so many other wonderful things I'd love to see in this game. I hope the subscriptions continue to grow so they can continue to expand the game with quality content.
