It's just a theory, but I think the game was designed to have several "lines" in big battles.

If you look at synergies, most, if not all, are designed to be used in close quarter/ melee line, where the front actually is.
Even ranged abilities have close quarter synergies.

If you're lucky enough to be in a large fight with neither faction playing well, you can see the organic layering occur where all builds have a role. Even stealthy finishers.

The issue is that as soon as you get a group that knows how to play, they'll be stacking and will just remove any notion of "line of skrimmage".
I think it also remove any notion of fun too, but that's just an opinion.
It definitely does away with the iconic "large scale war" we were sold on in the trailers.

ZOS has said that the removing the aoe cap would pretty much cause havok on the server when fighting in cyrodil. It's not in place because that's how a developer necessarily wanted it to work in cyrodil, it's in place because of technical limitations.
    proof?
i call bull[snip] as it'll take more calculation for the game to work out which 6 targets an AoE will hit then single target nukes and being as AoE's are always 30+ thats a massive amount of calculations per second to work out.

it's even been know for these Zerg Balls as we call them to crash the server when they get extreamly big or large quantities of them
PLEASE REPLY TO ME WITH @dsalter otherwise i'm likely to miss the reply if its not my own thread

Yeah, this is pretty much debunked by now. Even if a dev said that, it's most likely an excuse or a mistake on his end.
I don't know which one would be worst.

I'd really like to know the actual story, especially since the game seems to have been designed with uncapped aoes.
Could it be a move made to mimic gw2 before it was shown as a total debacle?
