It might be my imagination, but it seems like when I mix up my combat I get better drops.. is this verified?(ala GW2) Would XP be better than too?

I don't think it is, but it certainly seems that the more hits you put on a mob, the more loot it drops.

Then the very next mob that I almost one shot drops as much loot so it's got to be random.

As for Exp, you would have to use FTC and chew on the numbers to see if more hits gives you more exp per kill. Me, I level up with the game so I don't really pay attention to the leveling (as opposed to if I had to grind to level up)

No, but I havent tested it. You can hover your mouse over your exp bar and get your actual number. Kill a mob. Do it again, subtract and have the actual exp you are getting per kill. Test it out and let us know.

I don't think actual combos of attacks matter towards exp, but I have noticed that skills seem to level faster from use in a fight, not just being on your bar when you get exp as popular opinion says.

There is a finesse system, the better you perform the better xp and loot !

You get Exp from Kills and Turning in a Quest*

You do get exp from using your skills in a fight, it's just not clear to me if they occur per hit or just from a kill using that weapon. I have FTC, but don't use the flying numbers or damage logs so not sure how, or rather when, it accumulates. So having the skill active both during the fights and when you turn in the quest will give you the most gain.

*Most people switch the skill bar when turning in a quest to level a skill that is too weak to use in a fight. I did this recently when I gave up my Bow for a Staff. Ironically, I could use the Staff from Level 12 in Coldharbor just fine, the Bow at 40 something was not effective.

Ah, yep, the finesse is definitely what is happening to me then... its exactly what I'm experiencing... if you get in some good timed blocks.. heavy attacks.. basically putting a bit more effort into the fight you get a pay off. Nice.

    Its very subtle though..

    Thanks for the link

If you're getting drops better stats then what you can craft...you've done something wrong.

It seems to be this way, at least recently. When I have spent more time blocking and hitting, I get more out of the drops (usually). Then again, one shots have given me some decent loot, so there is probably some randomizing going on too.

During the first month I had an add-on that gave finesse numbers it didn't seem to do any difference except maybe due to my wishfully thinking. Most discussions about finesse were also saying that it was abandoned,. I should probably try it again.

If you look on the net you get very very little info about it and mostly from before the release or from unreliable nonofficial sources. If it was in any way a major feature of the combat system like advertised, I think we would have heard a lot more noise about it since release, both from the devs and the players. I certainly didn't observe any of the supposed effect.

I did a quick baseline series of tests on this last night... its confirmed I'm pretty sure.

First I mowed down 4 same level mobs using just one ability and nothing else... just got some gold and one piece of trash. Then I killed the same type and level mobs and totally milked the battle... kited them around just block stunning them, then alternated all my abilities until dead.. I got a least one drop per kill plus the gold.

Gonna try this again against XP and see what happens.

I added wyykkds framework and noticed a huge variance in xp awarded during fights. Some of the same mob combination were awarding an order of magnitude more xp and even multiples on to p of that. For example, one wasp was maybe 450xp. The next time, maybe I did a block or something...really not sure...but wyykkd reported 15k. Not sure if it was a just an addon fluke, but I did see a number of very random numbers. Gearwise/drop that is harder to assess, but I got multiple blue drops in quick succession in an area where there were larger mobs that often did heavy hits and channeled abilities, all of which I often blocked and interrupted. So maybe this is working. I just never picked up on it until I saw this post.
