Suggestion: Block Breaking

The current system of attacks in the game goes something like this:

If target is casting -> Use an interrupt (Click both buttons to bash, or use an interrupt ability)

If target is charging a heavy attack -> Use block (Hold right mouse button)

When the target is blocking, there's no counter. My suggestion is to cause certain abilities to act as 'block breakers' which, when used against blocking opponents, knocks the target down and stuns for a second.

The idea is that all charge and pull style abilities would double as block breakers, here's the full list of (player) block breaker abilities:

Sorceror:
Bolt Escape (and morphs)

Dragonknight:
Fiery Grip (and morphs)
Dragon Leap (and morphs)

Templar:
Focused Charge (and morphs)

Nightblade:
Teleport Strike (and morphs)

Two-Handed:
Critical Charge (and morphs)

One Handed + Shield
Shield Charge (and morphs)

Werewolf:
Pounce (and morphs)

Fighter's Guild:
Silver Leash (Only on vampires/werewolves/undead/daedra)

    The idea of the shield is to stop damage though and protect you ?
    Seems pointless if you can break its effect.

    Supposedly lots of light hits on a blocking character eats their stamina.....so just keep hitting them ?
    Anything that can be exploited will be exploited

    A way to break blocks would be useful. I don't necessarily think it should be a skill, least of all the ones listed. Because it makes sense that you would want to block to counter a number of these.

    I think it would be better to give bash a chance of breaking a block. Maybe add a modifier to that chance for using a shield and the stamina stats. And a player who has their block broken should be put off balanced, not knocked down.

    I think that blocking more than 20 hits or 5 power attacks should result in your block breaking and you stumbling for 1 second. That way, you couldn't have a sword and board DK soaking up every ounce of damage from 20+ people, but he could still defend against a couple of opponents for a few seconds. You shouldn't be able to block and back up 500 meters while being smashed with every ability in the game and taking no damage.

That way, you couldn't have a sword and board DK soaking up every ounce of damage from 20+ people, but he could still defend against a couple of opponents for a few seconds. You shouldn't be able to block and back up 500 meters while being smashed with every ability in the game and taking no damage.

    This would work for pvp balance, but not pve, where a tank has to block a dozen or more enemies in aoe packs attacking him constantly. Hence why I suggested tying it to certain abilities.

    It makes sense that someone charging you at full speed would bowl you over if you're standing there with your shield up. Basing this on charge attacks would also allow some pve enemies, like the bandits and clannfears that back up and charge you, to block break - meaning tanks would have to keep an eye out for those attack animations.

    Casting abilities needs to break your own block. Magic users can keep the block button held down while casting magic abilities. They have the defensive (brace) buff while doing DPS. It doesn't make sense.

    In terms of breaking another player's block, I think heavy attacks should break their guard no matter what. If a player is blocking and sees you charging a heavy attack, they can bash to stun you. If they fail to notice/keep blocking and the heavy attack lands on them, they should be stunned and the block should break.

    Dc universe used to have this, and 2bh its a great addition, it forced people to actually predict and use block at right time rather than just holding block.
