NPCs: 2 guys and a horse

I see these guys in almost every zone. 2 npcs and a horse being attacked by bandits. I usually help out and kill the bandits.

Once that's done, the NPCs say "Thank you" and move along.

Am I missing something? Is there a point to it - I've checked for buffs, etc.

There are ten different random events like this.
3 are for achievements, the other 7 and just that, something random with no reward besides thanks.
