New Vet Question

Just got into the Vet content in PVE. I am now on Stros M'kai. How do you know when you are too high of level for an area in Vet? Basing this on having an alt in that area and at level 10 you should be out of there and the next island as you stop getting any drops from the wolves, etc.

Just trying to figure out how to base my progression through the new area since you have to get so many vet points to move to V2, V3, etc. I like to run my quests in line with my level and don't want to start hitting V3 areas in Glenumbra as a V1 if I can help it. Hope this makes sense. :)

Each zone is one veteran rank, excluding the starter zones (which are the same rank as the 1st zone). Stros, Betnikh, and Glenumbra are all VR1 (no VR2+ spots anywhere), Stormhaven is VR2, Rivenspire is VR3, and so on.

You don't really outlevel veteran content as you do pre-50, since you'll still get drops from all mobs levels 45 and above (including all veteran ranks) regardless of your veteran rank, VR1 or VR12.

Ah thank you so much! Silly question I know but this is my first vet character so I was a bit lost. :)

    Agreed.
If anything OP you'll be chasing points, not worrying about getting too many. Even with the VR nerf and additional xp/points you are now able to get you will still find it a long, hard slog to reach VR12.

Do your levelling and content if that's what you enjoy, but I'd also suggest spend some time in Craglorn and do some PvP to mix it up a bit. Otherwise you may start to find yourself getting bored and resenting it !

Oh and gratz on getting to VR

Thanks for the info. I am half way through Glenumbra and almost to V2. I almost freaked being in the same mind set as I was with levels 1-49 thinking I needed to get out of there to keep with the game levels. Nice knowing that I can just enjoy things and not freak over my levels and still get drops and credit for my quests, dungeons and such. I was always seven or more levels above the zones before starting them and I missed a ton of drops because my levels were too high as I reached the half way area of the zone.

I craft A LOT, LOL! This character is full blacksmith, clothier, woodwork, provision, enchant and alchemy so I have spent a ton of time finding stuff to deconstruct and mix. :)

There's an important thing about the nature of Veteran Rank that often gets lost, and that is, every veteran rank is level 50 + VR-N gear.

Once you're VR-N, you're done "leveling." Your maximum health, stamina, and magicka values (represented by the "capped" values) are fixed. The only way to increase your actual (as opposed to potential) stats is through "gear:" armor, weapons, enchants, passives, potions, food, drink, Mundus Stones, and so on.

As you gain veteran points, you unlock access more powerful gear through the veteran ranks, which allows you to get closer and closer to the "capped" values in all of your stats. The difference between a VR1 and a VR5 mob is not their level, but how close their stats are to the capped maximum, and consequently how much damage/armor/crit/etc they have. Bosses use a different scheme entirely; before the Great API Nerf before release day, we used to have access to their full stats, but no longer. Anyone who knew those values has probably left the game by now... :-(

The veteran point system is a hybrid system, however, because you continue to earn skill points through the usual means. That's the point of the coming changes; ZOS has recognized that the scheme of XP/VP is confusing. However, even though you continue to accumulate skill points & fill out your skill lines, that is NOT the same thing as "leveling," though sometimes that word is used.

Because you're "just" level 50, as has been pointed out, you never outlevel anything any more in your Veteran zones. You have, however, outleveled everything in the non-vet zones. It's just that V3 hits harder than V1, generally, though in PvP, even that may not be true; depends on the individual player and his/her gear choices.
