In some threads I've noticed the option to directly upload images from my pc, is that something that is enabled/disabled by the person who begins the thread?

Uploading files from your PC is currently only enabled for the Customer Support section of the forums. Elsewhere, you can insert images/screenshots in the way others have pointed out in this thread, by uploading the image to an external image hosting site and then putting the URL between [img][/img] tags.

    go here

    http://imgur.com/

click upload images at the top and follow the instructions.

Then, use the little page icon above the comment text box to post the image adress in the appropriate format. Or you can just do this..

[i.mg] (address of image here) [/i.mg] (remove the periods in my example.)

Make a thread in the CS forum about some bug then use the img bbc to link to it from there, to here.

...no, don't do that actually. ~laughs~

If you're using the steam overlay, you can just upload that. Then go to your online library, click on the image to bring up a separate window. Clicking on the window a third time will bring up another unique window, but this one will have a working URL for the image.

It will be formatted like this: http://images.akamai.steamusercontent.com/ugc/431572596321902600/6024ADCFC1A0456F2C3C9CF3F99BC1C7073527F8/

If it's formatted like this: http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=514312131 it will not work, and will just go to a page steam generates for the image.

Anyway, if you stick the images.akamai.steamusercontent.com URL into image tags (img) it will work, and it's faster than uploading through another hosting service, because (if you've got Steam running) it will be right there for you.

    Example:
    [img]http://images.akamai.steamusercontent.com/ugc/431572596321902600/6024ADCFC1A0456F2C3C9CF3F99BC1C7073527F8/[/img]

    Will produce:

    6024ADCFC1A0456F2C3C9CF3F99BC1C7073527F8
