I know Zenimax has responded to player feedback regarding this away from how they originally envisioned this. I am grateful for this.
BUT, there are still times I am surprised what weapon I am using and that should never happen.
Exactly how high up the totem poll weapon swapping priority should be is something I supposed we can debate. For me, when I decide I need to switch weapons in combat, it is typically in response to an *immediate* situation the requires a specific skill. Thus in my opinion, weapon switching should take priority over things such as breathing. I don't care what it is that I am doing, that action needs to stop - even at the price of not triggering a skill (just please don't have it cost me my mana) - and the new weapon should be freely available.
From what I read, this is the current priority: Overload Light/Heavy Attacks > Block/Bash > Spells > Light/Heavy Attacks.
I would like: Weapon Swapping > Human bodily functions > a date with Heidi Klum > a working computer > Overload Light/Heavy Attacks > Block/Bash > Spells > Light/Heavy Attacks.
Perhaps your preferred priority is different than mine. However, I think there are two primary offenders that prevent a player from weapon swapping that we can all agree on.
1) If you are executing a heavy destruction staff attack and try to switch weapons, you'll still continue with that slow, drawn out heavy attack process *and* wont even switch weapons after the attack is completed. I don't know if this is true for other weapons like bows and axes. But for destro staffs, it's like the game never received the request. Please treat the weapon swap request like a block and give us a partial heavy attack that does not do as much damage as a full heavy attack. Yeah balance and eliminating frustration all in one package!
2) If you have a skill in which a targeting circle appears active, such a fire rune, you will get the message, "You can't swap weapons right now." I *hate* this message. I should never see this message. Nothing, not even cardiac arrest, should prevent me from swapping weapons. Again, we can agree to disagree on how high the weapon-switching priority should be, but please don't make me hit the escape button to exit that targeting circle phase or waste mana to throw down the rune anywhere (which is what I usually do because it is faster) just to switch weapons.
Thank you for your consideration in this manner.
