Cannot log-in since the patch.

I double click the desktop icon like normal and it opens the launcher.
But then it says "Error 102 - DownloadError_Invalidmetafile"
Launcher crashes very soon afterwards.

Wrong forum. This should be in the Customer Support forum, except don't post a new thread for it there because there's already a thread there about this issue, which includes lots of info on how to fix it:

I have the same problem... It gives the error and says to contact customer support. Does anyone know how to fix this?

Same thing happened to me. I kept closing and opening launcher and eventually (took about 10 times) it eventually downloaded patch

Yes. Look at the post right above yours where I give a link to the thread that tells you different methods of fixing it.

I post on the main forum page because I want it sorted, not hidden away in some dark corner so it looks like it hasn't happened.

There!! look!! I've gone lost my 'Happy Zeni train' mindset now....

Fix it you bunch of incompetent coders!!!! You really shouldn't be breaking the launcher on patch day this far in. We gave you leeway for a couple of months but this is just pathetic now.

More than slightly annoyed that even thou the patcher wont let me update or log-in......it still updates itself to tell me the 'News' about a figurine from the cash shop I can buy......ARE YOU FRICKING KIDDING ME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

In addition to the article @ZOS_JasonLeavey‌ provided, here are a few other troubleshooting steps you can take to resolve the issue you're encountering:

Repair the Game Client: Step-by-step instructions for repairing your client are available in this knowledge base article.

Run the client as administrator:

1. Right Click on the launcher and go to Properties.
2. From there, go to the compatibility tab. If you have Windows 8, click in the Compatibility box and select Windows 7.
3. At the bottom of the screen, check the box for "Run As Administrator".
4. Hit Apply, then Ok.
5. Then Right Click on the Launcher and go to "Run As Administrator."
6. The game should now download any updates and install them.

Add ESO as an exception to your anti-virus software: Our knowledge base has several articles detailing how to do this. Simply search for your anti-virus program to find instructions specific to the software you have enabled.

Yeah, let's not hide it on the front page of the Customer Support forum which is frequented by ZOS employees and sees far more ZOS employee posts than the General Discussion forum! Let's not hide it in the thread that has already had a ZOS employee see it and post steps to fix it! That's a dark corner alright!

Honestly, his reasoning for why he was posting in the wrong forum and ignoring the existing thread in the right forum (that even had a ZOS employee response with how to fix it) is one of the stupidest things I've read in a long time. I feel dumber for having read it.

Why is a launcher so much different than the rest of the program that it can't be broken?

Things change all the time in an MMO. Including details in the launcher.

Scoff all you like, I had my responses.

The game works now.
How did I do it??? I turned the computer off and went to the pub last night instead of trying those bogus suggestions.
Logged in tonight, patch updated and game started.

See? That 'other' post did nothing to solve my problem. Alcohol did it.
