When farming boxes please set yourself to "Offline"

Until ESO has an update that allows us to filter out when friends log in and out, please set yourself to "Offline Status" if you are farming boxes and such for mats, recipes, styles, etc.

I'm not knocking farming, I do it myself, but I always set myself to offline status so I don't spam my friends with logging in and out and in and out and in... you get the idea.

Just a courteous tip as I know lots of people who kick friends from their list just to avoid the constant log spam.

*** Edited***

If you don't know how just hit "O" to open your friends list and in the upper left corner next to your UserID is a drop down arrow where you can change your status.

Is this an Account wide setting or just per character?

I might be nice to my friends when I am shuffling around inventory on my Mules.

And this is why I don't do Friends. I got tired really fast with all the login/logout SPAM.

I want a Friends List, but until that login/logout option is implemented, I will not have a Friends List.
FYI - There is no such thing as 'night capping' in a world wide MMO.
FYI - There was no paid Beta. When they launched the game the Beta was over, even if you don't think it was.
    FYI - It's B2P not F2P. There is a difference.
FYI - It doesn't take any player skill to mash keys or buttons in this game. The ones that stay alive longer have the better internet connection and speed.
FYI - The game is not broken, it still works. It just has 'bugs' that need to be fixed.
    Balance is a "Bad" thing.

Example: There were hundreds of Jedi and only two Sith in Star Wars. The Jedi wanted, "Balance in the Force" and they got it. Now there are only two Jedi and two Sith.

It's account wide, you can't set individual characters to different statuses it's account-wide.

I'm glad people like the idea :-)

I had no idea marking yourself as offline did anything besides show you as 'grey' on the friends list. I thought you still got the message of the user going online\offline.

I would be nice if you could disable the 'system' message anyway. I have lots of people on my friends list and only use it to check friends to fill gaps in trial or vet dugn runs.

I use mutli chat (allows more the one chat window) but you can not filter system messages so they appear in every chat window, which is annoying.

Simple, good suggestion. +1 and will do next time I'm in that situation.

I make a lot of use of "offline" mode because even when I'm just going through my crafter alts and mules my friends have to see me log in/out 16 times (8 characters in and out) within 5-10 minutes... multiply that by all your friends and it's just spam... I actually came to this conclusion after I had deleted some friends for doing the same thing and realized that other people would be deleting me because it's just so annoying since system messages are broadcast on every window you use.

"The server is coming down in 1 mins" followed by lots of complains from players who 'turned off' system messages and the server closed without them knowing :)

Still, friends logging off and on should not be system messages. They should be grouped with 'tells'

Well yeah I don't want to really silence system messages, just 99.999% of system messages are log spam, you're right they should fix that soon!

I'll have to double check but I am using X4D Chat and I believe one of the settings is specifically to suppress the friend login/logout.

    http://www.esoui.com/downloads/info189-X4DChat.html

You can use that addon or another similar one so that people do not have to regularly switch their game settings to facilitate another person's preferences. (really the way it should be handled)

@Natjur‌, right click the options/settings in your chat window and unclick SYSTEM.

EDIT*: You can go into Settings / Social and change the System color to a less contrasting one that catches your eye. There is no current way to disable system notifications. My apologies.

I usually make a second tab and uncheck certain things to help filter out some of the noise. Important system messages will still come across litterally in-your-face mid screen, so you won't miss the important stuff.

I put whispers (/tells), main guild on one tab, everything else (or all) on the other.

You can periodically switch back and forth if you want to look at the history.

^ This. It's not as bad with the farming, but switching 8 characters in and out to manage resources is really brutal.

@Merlin13KAGL‌ is there a system checkbox in the options to chat tabs? I don't remember seeing one? And I could have sworn I've looked. I have a tab called 'Quiet' where I've unchecked everything, and I still get system messages. So I really don't think there is one, or maybe I'm missing it.

@Natjur, @Silowyi‌, @Super_Sonico‌, I stand corrected. Could have sworn there was such a beast.

Now that I think about it, I believe I went in (Esc) Settings / Social and just made the System color less intrusive and eye catching.

Humblest apologies for what I thought was correct information. (The color change does help make it less noticeable though.)

Now that's a viable option I haven't thought of. Right now my system messages are set to red, because I really don't want to miss a server message, like turning off guild chat or an unscheduled server restart...

But it turns out, the chat box isn't even how they pass these kinds of system messages! Those are all passed as the large white text directly under the compass! The only system messages I've ever seen are people logging in and out.

So yeah, I'm going to set myself to permanently offline I think so I don't spam others (I've always worried about that and didn't know your status would affect it!). Then I'm going to change the color to match the chatbox as close as I can.

Awesome. Thanks for the info in this thread.

Something to be wary about. A friend had set herself offline but forgot dhe had done so.

She saw me online, sent me a few tells and I had no way of redponding, if I remember correctly, it didn't tell me she was offline.

Aftef a while I realised what had happened and sent her a mail. She had set herself offline on a previous session.

Color change is ok, but it's not the color that bothers me... it's having to scroll through endless log ons and offs to find the information I actually want. It just seems silly it can't be turned off...

You can't make a tab that ignores system messages. As I said in an earlier post, I have a 'quiet' tab so I don't see any chat. But I still see friends logging in and out. This does get annoying when I see it about 20 times in 10 minutes because of people logging alts.
